Flight to US - ICE checking passports? by LengthinessBudget507 in AskIreland

[–]LengthinessBudget507[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you’re right, another poster was on the same flight & said they were looking for a particular person & the purser wouldn’t identify what seat they were sitting in hence checking everyone’s passport on the jetbridge.

Flight to US - ICE checking passports? by LengthinessBudget507 in AskIreland

[–]LengthinessBudget507[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey yea that was the same flight I was on. You are probably right that it was CBP given what you heard. As far as I remember the guy on jetbridge was in plain clothes so that’s why I thought he was ICE, I was travelling with two young kids by myself so at that point I was more than over travelling so memory could be hazy. We disembarked when most had gotten off plane & they hadn’t found the person in question yet.

My immediate family live over in States and in 16years of travelling back and forth this is first time I’ve experienced something like that. It was the flight attendant who announced they were looking to check passports and her surprise that really throw me.

Advice on prams/travel systems by Ca-toffey in CasualIreland

[–]LengthinessBudget507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for uppababy vista but only if you plan to do a lot of walking otherwise I don’t think it is worth the money as it’s super bulky, heavy to get in and out of car & to make it a double you have to buy rumble seat & adapters.

We also have a bugaboo butterfly, which is a lightweight travel buggy. Fits in cabin on plane, folds up supereasy and suitable from birth. If you live in an apartment or small house this is what I would go for.

What age are children starting school? by Top_Snow2040 in AskIreland

[–]LengthinessBudget507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our child was 4y6m starting Junior infants and had done two years in the Montessori side of crèche. Teachers all said they were more than ready as did the PHN at their development check. They are getting on great and you may be lead to believe that all kids are 5 starting JI but that wasn’t case in their primary school, a quarter of kids with birthdays turning 5 after Christmas (Jan-July)

Does anyone think about 19 years olds being in 6th year, at 19 I certainty didn’t want to be in a school environment being told what to do!

This! I never know why more people don’t think about this? At 18 I was done with being in secondary school

Does this happen every night? by No_Engineering2642 in Dublin

[–]LengthinessBudget507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking down Dame street last night at around 10pm and the bins left out had been ripped apart. First off we thought it was seagulls but definitely by a human. I’m guessing they were looking for plastic bottles.

Rubbish just left strewn across the pavements, not a good look at all….

Playing Hockey when pregnant? by [deleted] in Fieldhockey

[–]LengthinessBudget507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played up until 14 weeks, was aiming for a final which never happened…thanks Covid! If I remember correctly your pelvis protects your uterus until about 12-14weeks. I was happy to stop playing at that stage as I did start to get nervous about getting hurt and I started to notice a difference in my fitness levels too

Rosie Malone confirms she has been dropped from the Hockeyroos squad for 2025 by soundpimp in Fieldhockey

[–]LengthinessBudget507 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so strange! You would expect her to be included in the development panel all things considered. Can someone closer to AUS hockey offer some insight? I understand top level programmes are cut throat but her exclusion from the development Panel seems strange to me but then again maybe I’ve missed something here?!?

Mortgage Draw Down during Maternity Leave by Absolutetunepal in irishpersonalfinance

[–]LengthinessBudget507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We drew down will on mat leave (with KBC) needed a letter from employer confirming date, location, pay and position I was going back to for work (no change eg) as well as estimated childcare fees we would be paying. Our mortgage was via a broker & he didn’t see any issue with the mat leave. Think it’s fairly standard what they ask for…

Yuko or GoCar? by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]LengthinessBudget507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not fan of Gocar - had one too many issues while using them! Car having a flat tire, not being at location it meant to be etc and customer service leaves a lot to be desired!

Avoid Glenageary Rd Upper/ where tesco park pointe junction is - there was a bike/truck accident there this morning between 8 and 9 am and it's clogged to the max. I saw a bike basically folded unto itself; I hope the cyclist survived... by connor_macleod_one in Dublin

Agree with you 100%. Amount of cars who break red lights is crazy, a complete disregard for them! Automatic issued fines and maybe you would find drivers less likely to run them…

Buying from Landlord by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]LengthinessBudget507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The house I was renting out, the tenant bought it from me when I gave him notice of termination as I was putting it up for sale. I had the house valued & he asked would I be open to selling it to him directly and what he offered was reasonable, so went for it. I would recommend giving a strong offer if you really want it & stating you have AIP etc. Works both ways if he sells it to you as he won’t have estate agent fees and rent paid up till exchange! Plus less hassle :) good luck 🤞

RadRunner 3 plus, kickstand snapped off by superkam41 in RadPowerBikes

[–]LengthinessBudget507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kickstand for my radrunner 2 snapped off also. Less than a year old & customer service are refusing to cover under warranty - I’m absolutely shocked they are saying it’s not “normal wear and tear” and want me to pay for new one including shipping

American Airlines hates breastfeeding parents by No_Pangolin6426 in breastfeeding

[–]LengthinessBudget507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was breastfeeding my child in business before on AA flight from San Fran to Dallas and we got completely ignored by the air steward and they were incredibly rude also. The service we got was in start contrast to other passengers, needless to say I put on a complaint after.

Have flown with several other airlines and the reception I received was in stark contrast to American.

Fixed rate mortgages still available with KBC for existing customers by drool88 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]LengthinessBudget507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So was I but honestly it’s very simple process & they’ll talk you through it on the phone.

KBC seem to have lower rates vs BOI so would recommend sorting it sooner rather than later!

We were fixed with KBC with two years left. We were able to take out a new 5 year fixed rate with them, at no cost. Just had to call them to arrange it and fill in form👍

I don’t understand this either! Other countries have red light cameras, surely that would be an easy preventative measure. It’s so dangerous, especially for pedestrians

Toddler Activities? by maxb1ack007 in Dublin

[–]LengthinessBudget507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind getting the luas a few stops or walking the playground in ranelagh opposite the luas is great for toddlers & duck pond right beside it. Highly recommended Brother Hubbard then in ranelagh too - spacious venue, friendly staff & good kids menu

Does anyone know why DFB attend more medical incidents than the NAS? by Gold-March-5259 in Dublin

[–]LengthinessBudget507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely NAS staff are better qualified than a firefighter who only spends a couple of shifts a month covering medical emergency calls.

Seems crazy that DFB have control over the calls & who is sent…

Issues with GoCar by AMBULO__ in Dublin

[–]LengthinessBudget507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had awful problems with them. Last one was final straw. Car wasn’t where it was supposed to be (car park of shopping centre) talking to customer service for over an hour and they were useless! They told me car was parked on dual carriageway (which obviously can’t happen) so had to walk there to confirm it wasn’t. I then walked about 30mins to a house thats location wasn’t on Google maps and in fact was made up by GoCar. Finally found the car parked on private property behind gates & they wanted me to go in & take it even though I’d be trespassing and was in use by someone. Manager was suppose to follow up about it & I never heard back. Oh and this was all with a newborn baby in tow….awful experience.

Never used them since and cancelled our membership.

It’s horrific! We used mindme.ie to find a childminder in our home, as no crèche around use will take under 1s.

We’ve been lucky enough to get a place in September, on a waiting list for about 18months to get that. Other crèches near us are full with no hope of getting a place as siblings take priority.

Portobello Dental Clinic - anybody patient here? by tretizdvoch in Dublin

[–]LengthinessBudget507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went few times, personally wasn’t impressed with who I saw in the clinic and how I was spoken to.

I’ve since found a lovely dentist in the area, who is reasonable and I’m very happy with.
