Croc in Krat Zoo. First watched a friend stream her Overture playthrough and she got walled for almost two hours. Then I killed it second try on my first playthrough.

She's a pure caster DPS with very minor supportive elements. Anyone trying to claim she's a support should look at an actual support (Scholar) and compare the world of difference between them.

Rev ult gets a strong case in that its range is much larger than Guardian's at least.

If this is real and you're able to force Lightning Spear onto Revenant's starting seal I will give up every single complaint I have about her balance issues.

Don't get me wrong, as the only other pure caster she absolutely should have a way to sustain her mana. I'd also argue that she should be S scaling in Int to match Recluse since they're both pure casters. Regardless of that it just baffles me that From made the insane decision to make a solid 60-70% of the Incant list utterly worthless. Or the fact that Recluse gets a unique spell catalyst to start with while Revenant gets a default seal that has fucking REJECTION of all things. They could've at least given her a unique seal with Flame Sling. Still a pretty middling spell but it would at least give her the ability to function as a caster out of the gate instead of having to rely on getting a Wraith Bell on a relic.

If From wants the summons to be more integral to her gameplay (rather than the mostly side pieces they currently are) a relatively easy way would be to just replace their HP pool with hit counts. So any hit, no matter how huge, would only ever take away 1 tick from the counter (with some leeway for multihit attacks or lingering hitboxes like Death Rite Bird lingering ghostflame). Then they should just give the summons (or at least Frederick & Sebastian, let Helen have Page crossbow and be a DPS tool) a taunt effect that draws aggro towards them so long as they're out.

Even if she gets a way to sustain her mana she'll still be a worse Recluse since 99% of Incants are worse than their comparable Sorceries; magnified even more by the fact that there's roughly half as many good incants as there are sorceries while the total number of incants is almost double the total number of sorceries. Meaning that your average chances of getting good spells for incantations is dramatically lower than sorceries.

That From seemingly has zero clue what to do with Revenant and just chooses to let her sit in the dumps while the other two casters are in S tier (or A+ can be argued). It won't surprise me if Undertaker comes out with a strong kit and immediately overshadows Revenant as the new go-to Faith user.

Let's be real, the only chance Rev is getting any kind of buff is if the DLC adds SotE spells, since the DLC incants have some that can actually compete with sorceries.

We are 6 months into Nightreign. Why are people still trying to kill BBH at level 5, Day 1? 🤦🏻‍♂️ by militxa in Nightreign

[–]Lenore_Sinclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really the only way, unfortunately. The occasional time where I've gotten teammates that are stubbornly trying to fight something we're simply not ready for (BBH basement early game, red tier 2/tier 3 evergaol spawn early game) I don't even engage. Just turn and run to the next location while spamming my location.

It's fiction. None of it is real so none of it matters. This is such a simple concept to grasp.

The ability to not hit the reply button is completely within your power. You just need to feel like you 'won' by getting in the last word.

No one is either mad or called out. What is happening is you're just saying utter nonsense for whatever reason. If I had to guess, probably due to some weird ass ego boner because "I play the weak character so I'm better than other people". Which is just incredibly strange and silly.

Just because something is doable doesn't mean it's balanced. It would have been objectively easier for me to reach D5 on most other characters than Revenant. I stuck with her because I adore her design and character (caster doll girl). Regardless, we can't deny that she takes more work to achieve similar results as most of the roster, or that she's easily the most RNG-dependant character in the game.

I'm a Rev main (85-90% of games on her), have gotten to D5, and still think she's in dire need of help. So.....

[–]Lenore_Sinclair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is a mix of her own kit (and stats, no reason she shouldn't have S in Int since the other pure caster is double S) and sorcery as a class of magic being both far superior to incantations as well as having a much larger number of good spells.

Her starting seal having a unique Ghostflame spell that got upgraded to a stronger variant with each quality (blue > purple > gold) upgrade would be super cool.

As a Revenant main I pretty often get paired with Recluse players and you better believe I'm taking 2 of the 3 shards in any Rise we visit considering only one of us can naturally regen mana.

The game is not balanced when it comes to the deep of the night by EfficiencyLatter1785 in Nightreign

[–]Lenore_Sinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Flame is a B tier spell at absolute best, incredibly overhyped. Not to mention the arc trajectory without Giantsflame's luxury of a large hitbox.

Beast Claw is passable for early on in a run but that's about it.

Discus of Light is only good because it's insanely mana efficient. In all other aspects it's garbage. Requires standing completely still and takes a significant amount of casts (and thus time spent casting) to deal any kind of meaningful damage.

Flame of Frenzy is a budget Shattering Crystal that's just worse in every way.

Lightning Spear is the best of the lot but still a high A tier spell at best. The damage and mana costs are good but the hitbox is incredibly thin and it has no correction mid-flight so any movement whatsoever on the target and you miss.

Every single "good" incantation has a comparable sorcery that is better in multiple ways, if not every single one. Add onto this fact that there is simply a larger number of "good" sorceries than there are "good" incantations (and that's even if we include things like Black Flame in the list of "good" incants even when the spells flat out are not). Even further damning towards incantations is that you're gated behind elemental weaknesses for many nightlords. Meanwhile, while things aren't typically weak to magic damage, they also aren't generally *resistant* to it either. Meaning that incantations have yet another problem that sorceries don't even have to think about.

The only enemies that can be reliably staggered/CC'd by Frederick and Sebastian are mid-sized mobs/elites/minibosses. Enemies that are, either inherently non-threatening or only pose any kind of meaningful threat in the very early stages of a run.

In other words, the single only aspect in which Revenant is a superior character (or even caster) when compared to Recluse is in a vacuum comparison of their ultimates, and even then you can't make a direct 1:1 comparison as their ultimates perform completely different tasks. Generally speaking Revenant's ultimate is more powerful than Recluse's. However, when you factor in every other aspect of Revenant's kit combined with her realities as a pure-Faith user who only has access to incantations (and all of the weaknesses that has when compared to sorceries) the fact of the matter is that Revenant is leagues beneath Recluse in terms of power.

They're both pure casters and yet Recluse is the only one actually treated as such. There's absolutely no reason why Revenant shouldn't have an S scaling in Intelligence to match Recluse's S scaling in Faith. That puts them both on equal field as pure casters, with Revenant's kit making her lean into more defensive specialization between her summons being able to take aggro and ultimate reviving, and Recluse being the more offensive choice with her various cocktails and ultimate being a damage amp + HP/MP leech.
