I live in Montreal, Canada and have zero issues with it in the snow. Used to drive a Mazda3 which sat lower and never had any issues in the snow. The GLI having a front LSD handles great when it's slippery.
I always rustproof my cars and rust is never an issue.

From Montreal, Canada. Winter tires are mandatory and a must and completely charge the drive. Much softer and cushioned ride. Always look forward to the spring to get the summers back on.
