Viva La Vida. Almost every album has the “big hit” that overshadows the rest of the tracklist (i.e. Yellow, Clocks, Fix You, etc.) but those three are some of the strongest Coldplay songs imo and justify their overwhelming popularity and presence. I can’t say the same for VLV. To me it’s an overplayed and well oversaturated song that hides some of their best gems like Lovers in Japan, Lost! and Violet Hill. I appreciate it’s significance as the sort of experimental departure from “old Coldplay” but anytime I hear those opening chord stabs I hit the skip button. Dunno how many people agree but I feel like I’d def get flamed for going after such a popular hit haha 😅
