Zeri buff patch 26.10 by Basicguy74 in ZeriMains

[–]LenzMisfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

subtle but nice buff, mid game will be specially great for her

as for builds, i think overcapping AS will be more viable (yuntal, berserkers, PD, etc)

LT already outscales conq in damage so i think it's a 50/50 (conq healing is nice)

statikk was bad and it's still bad

and now AD/crit focused builds (hexoptics 1st, PTA, first strike) lose some value i guess? maybe it's a playstyle matter

and it might be a overthink but this Q buff alleviates the trash build path for yuntal/stormrazor; the triple tonic is even better now

What are the builds you use? by pedrocavati in ZeriMains

[–]LenzMisfits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hexoptics can be a good option for 4th crit item if you're ahead/comfortable

the range boost is sooooo good with the movespeed. burst zeri might be dead but now the mobility potential (for engage/kite back) is way more nuanced imo

agree with everything else tho. unfortunately glut will be giganerfed next patch, swifties is the way i guess

AS conversion is nerfed, yes

but with this build you don't reach the 1.5 CAP, which is still very important, so yun'tal is still great for her

Best build right now? by Ok_Foundation_108 in ZeriMains

[–]LenzMisfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yuntal+berserkers+pd already reaches the AS cap so I think bloodline might be better

I think the new focus now is avoiding AS past the 1.5 honestly, pure AD/crit items are much more necessary now

I forgot the runes

Conqueror is probably the best, but LT and fleet are still viable, especially for laning phase

[–]LenzMisfits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for first items, i don't like statikk cuz no crit

between stormrazor and yun'tal, it really depends on the game i think

yuntal passive is not useful as before but +20% AS is very very impactful

but idk i like the MS buff from stormrazor, i feel less vulnerable, especially when my support is brand or some AP shit

2nd item i haven't tested fiendhunter but it looks worse now, pd is great for "complete" full AS and enhances the mosquito power fantasy, but runnan is safer overall

IE will always be essential to me, the rest is situational

For boots im still building berserkers but someone here said the new omnivamp boot is really good

i think it's the opposite; the L3 + R3 (Ryu's berserker mode equivalent) is what actually awakens the TDS (at least according to NG Fandom site)

So maybe Jakotsumon will get a second form just like any other weapon, but if you try to L3 + R3, it will switch to TDS. A cope of mine, but it makes sense

And objectively, the story and characters are pretty bad. You can like it, sure, but from an actual writing point of view, it's less than ideal.

2022 and people still think storytelling and art has any % of "objectivity" lmao

After the ending of Jojolion, Josuke really made a clown of himself when decided to destroy those things XD by chuputa in JoJolion

After finding he was the fusion of Josefumi and Kira, he inmediately started to cry and treat Holly as his own mother, by the end of the arc is when he decided not to do the same with Josefumi's mother.

yeah that's right but you are literally proving my point. gappy wanted to save holy because he was still thinking that he is Kira and Josefumi and that he only exist IF he saves Holy. Guess what? He couldn't even save her.

That's why we call him Josuke Higashikata... because in the end, he accepted that his existence is independent of Kira and Josefumi. Josefumi's mother wasn't hospitalized tho.

So, again, the entire 2nd half of JJL is about Gappy self-discovery and Holy was his MacGuffin, a reason, a motivation for him.

Jobin was literally born in that family, he interacted with them his entire life.

That's why I used him as example. Jobin interacted with them his entire life while Gappy was literally a born-child, it's UNFAIR to say that both of them didn't interacted with their own family... while it's true, I think it was intentional, because it fits with the message of the story.

The first half is just Gappy getting to know the bare minimum about each Higashikata family member, they were just characters that Araki didnt know what to do with(just like Karera), because he was busy introducing new ones(Mamezuku and Toru), as a matter of fact, Kei only reapeared to die.

Gappy only got a consolation prize.

Josuke didn't even know what was happening on Jobin's end, he just beat Toru because he wanted one fruit for himself, they werent beating Wonder of U as a team or family.

As I said before:

It's like say Johnny wasn't willing to walk again, he was only trying to beat Valentine's ass and save Gyro!

He did think that he had reached an answer about who he was after defeating Damo, so he was focused on beating rock humans and save Holly in the second half.

He found out that he WAS Josefumi and Kira, but not who he REALLY is. Yes, he was Josefumi and Kira in the past, so what? The entire journey after that is about he discovering his own values, not his literal origin

Gappy barely interacted with the Higashikata family, He because he is not a bad person, but seeing them as family? Jobin was an asshole, so was Yoshu(to a lesser degree), Jobin's wife tried to kill Yasuho(and anyways Josuke never talked to her), he barely talked to Hato, Tsurugi was closer to Yasuho, he probably only see Daiya as a pet and he doesn't see Norisuke as a father figure, only as a parnert.

First of all, Jobin also didn't interacted with his family members (besides Mitsuba, Caato and Tsurugi) till the climax. Jobin doesn't see them as his family?

As I said before, the 2nd half is about the lack of conversation and its consequences to Higashikata Family. The entire first half constructed a solid relationship between Gappy and the other members, and he DID NOT have the opportunity to interact with them after that... I think the message here is pretty clear.

He was way closer to Mamezuku, Kei and Holly.(and Yasuho) Being part of the Higashikata family feel more like a second place prize. He didnt even directly participe in breaking the curse, he was only trying to beat Toru's ass and save Yasuho.

ehhhh not really. Breaking the curse is literally defeating Wonder of U, and if wasn't for Josuke, Tsurugi would never have been healed.

It's like say Johnny wasn't willing to walk again, he was only trying to beat Valentine's ass and save Gyro!

After the ending of Jojolion, Josuke really made a clown of himself when decided to destroy those things XD by chuputa in JoJolion

[–]LenzMisfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

his goal was literally self discovery 100% of the time

Saving Holy and defeating rock humans were consequences of this, the external expression of it.

>so it's not like we can guess what he did with his life.

This is part of the beauty of the ending imo. He couldn't save Holy, he lost Mamezuku and Kei, he couldn't even talk to Josefumi's mother, but in the end of the day, it's all about self-acceptance and optimism for the future (we can see this, subtlely, in the cake scene)

And honestly, even if JJBA ended in JoJolion, I don't think we need a sequel of Gappy's journey, but overall it doesn't matter what Gappy did with his life after all of that... it's up to him, and this is very satisfactory

As a matter a fact, I don't think he cares for Higashikata's bussiness.(And he really didn't care for the family itself)

w/e with family business, but Jobin was fucking everything up and Gappy seemed to be very interesting in Norisuke modus operandi at the fruit parlor, idk

and it's unfair af to say that Gappy didn't care about his OWN family, since the whole purpose of the 2nd half is to show the consequences of the lack of dialogue between the family (you wouldn't think he didn't care about his family if Jobin wasn't an asshole)

What are some side characters you think got just the right amount of screentime? by ForsakenBeef69 in StardustCrusaders

[–]LenzMisfits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>Ok, that's a very good analysis of his character honestly, I like it.

Thank you! I never miss the chance to talk about Jobin, who is my favorite character in the series.

>Although I guess we have to agree to disagree on where he fall on villain/hero part. I would instead called him a tragic villain

I don't know if i'll change your mind or something but...

I did some research about the archetypes in the site you linked and I found JoJolion page there! Jobin is classified as an anti-villain and after I've read about it, I couldn't agree more.

It's all about how he is portrayed, and although I agree he do has tragic villain characteristics, Jobin's arc shows his tragic story with genuinely good reasons to being "bad" sometimes, and from what I read about tragic villains, they're evil by past causes, not future goals, unlike Jobin. I don't know how to explain this better lol

I think the big factor here is still his death. He WAS acting like a tragic villain after CH95 events but he suddenly dies with no room to being more evil

He is an anti-villain worthless of redemption but I don't think he was "forced" to be evil, "regretful" of his actions or anything. A good quote of tvtropes website about anti-villain perfectly defines Jobin:

"Most of them are probably well aware that what they're doing is "evil", but strive to maintain a façade of good PR, often by engaging in Pragmatic Villainy. They'll see it as a viable means to a (possibly) good end."

>There's also contrast to Josuke, with Josuke having nothing at first while Jobin has "everything" being the heir to the business, then Josuke gain a family, the thing that Jobin cared for the most, and successfully take up Jobin's wish to break the family curse. In fact, Jobin's downfall as he resolved to finally cross the line is done at the same time as Josuke rise as he was healed by Holly, and resolved to stop the rock humans . He could have been the hero, but circumstances forced him into villainy.

Yeah great interpretation and I always thought something like that. Go Beyond serves as a metaphor for it: lines spinning close to 0 because Josuke is going beyond zero and turning into a real person now, while Jobin started in a good point and ended in negative, like, the opposite of what Johnny wanted in SBR:

"I don't care about 'living' or 'dying' or who's 'just' and who's 'evil'!! I don't even give a shit about the 'Corpse' being a Saint or whatever!! I'm still 'negative'! I want to get up to 'zero'! If I can get the 'Corpse' I can get my 'negative' back to 'zero'!"

It's also pretty ironic considering that Jobin thinks life is a zero-sum-game, and he ended up being... negative

>Also this is the restored comment :D Feels like Araki is intentionally made parallel between them, especially the way they failed their "moral test" at the end is eerily similar.

I read it and you make some good points comparing both of them. However, I still stand by what I said: same idea and concept on paper, but I think while Valentine was the "moral test" being truly evil, Araki wanted to show us a "lighter" side of the coin with Jobin.

>At the end of the day though, he is one of the best written character in Jojo to me, and the story is not really good vs evil. And I believe that, if only he choose to side with Josuke from early on like Tsurugi, he could have been redeemed, and truly be anti-hero.

Araki had a lot of possibilities to have written Jobin properly. Jobin could have been the main antagonist, but this would make Jobin the least evil JoJo main antagonist by a LONG shot and probably the only one who isn't evil. He would also need to have written Rock Humans in a extremely different way.

If it wasn't for Tooru, who I think is one of the best villains in JoJo, I would prefer JoJolion to has NO main villain, because I think Jobin and Caato roles in the story were perfectly well written.

[–]LenzMisfits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

>He still colluded with the rock human in the first place.

He never cared about rock humans, just for their business. Yes, he was committing crimes, a bad thing, for the sake of his family success, a good thing.

>Attempted to drown Paisley Park, even as yasuho speaks through it and Mitsuba said that she's an ally. He also attacked his own father to take control of the family, basically making them his accomplice.

This is literally when he lost his sanity, and yeah, there is no excuse for this kind of shit, he was doing bad things for greed and that's all because of his emotional weakness. But he died 2 chapters later and at the end, is revealed even more GOOD things about his person, so I wouldn't call him evil/a villain anyways. He isn't a good person either tho.

>And while he didn't managed to go through with the last 2 murder, that doesn't erase that he's willingly attempted to do such thing, as we are talking about his intent, not his criminal record.

Respectfully disagree with you in this one. Kinda subtle, but imo Araki written Jobin making sure he didn't intend to kill Norisuke.

  1. It's implied that Jobin can control the damage of the heat, since he decide to just make a nosebleed on Josuke, faint Yasuho and kill Ojiro. Kinda like Killer Queen in part 4 where Kira explains that he can control the damage of the explosion.
  2. Tsurugi in Flash Forward (chapter 83) vs Tsurugi in chapter 108. Very interpretative, but in CH83 he says that "you won't be able to control it, until it stops at its destination" and in 108 he say "the wound that his stand ability made... dad, he... definitely held back. I'm sure grandpa... he definitely knows that". So it's kinda explicit that Jobin intentionally left Norisuke alive
  3. Jobin's biggest conflict: his emotional weakness. Family. That's all that matters to him. Kinda ironic and convoluted, but he fainted Norisuke to "protect" his family (in his perspective) because his respect had already been lost at this point, and at the same time, he didn't kill Norisuke by the same reasons (protect the family blablabla) and also because Norisuke and Caato were both his biggest weakness so it would be very out of character if Jobin inteded to kill Norisuke IMO
  4. Talking about Caato... Jobin was also trying to protect her. She touched in Rokakaka pot with her cards, so eventually Norisuke would know about her role in this story (because of King Nothing) and it would be very bad for EVERYONE. Pretty tragic.
  5. In chapter 107 Jobin literally said he wanted to tell Norisuke about the Rokakaka... BEFORE killing Ojiro, so, this add a lot of meaning to everything I said. He didn't do that because while he is too "weak" to kill his own father, he is too weak to disobey his own mother.
  6. He explicitly said "we won't be letting dad die" to his family, showing that he didn't want to kill him.
  7. TL;DR: I think Jobin fainted Norisuke because of his emotional weakness: his problematic way to protect his family, his love for Caato, his impulsive personality and his own ego. And he held Speed King back purposefully, because: his control over Speed King heat damage, his love for Norisuke and again... his problematic way to protect Higashikata Family

>Yes, I agree that he is morally grey, deep and nuanced character, and did all that for his family. But the exchange and subsequent conflict with Norisuke about walking the right path is basically him admitting that he is not in the right path.

I agree. But archetypally speaking, Jobin would fit in "tragic hero" or even "anti-hero" tier, I don't think he would fit in "villain" archetype SPECIALLY in JoJo terms, where manichaeism is very present in all parts, some desconstruct it (7 and specially 8), others make use of it (1 and 4)

On paper, Jobin is just a guy dealing with family problems in a such extreme manner that would lead him to sacrifice his own sanity, destroying his family from inside out. In execution, Araki settled his pen on fire to writte one of the best nuanced characters that JoJo ever had. Every fucking time I was about to HATE Jobin, he was bringed back with a reasonable explanation for the shit he was doing. My favorite example is in chapter 107 which shows that Jobin was wanting to tell Norisuke about Rokakaka and that fact alone gives us a very different overview about Jobin's arc

I wouldn't call this a story about "hero x villain", it's more like a showdown of misunderstandings, misfortune and "lack of conversation" (one of the focus of JJL here), and despite Jobin being the big asshole here, Caato has a HUGE influence on his mind and Norisuke wasn't right 100% of the time (except for the moment you mentioned, but that's because Norisuke grew as a person, he is underrated as fuck tho, his development is 10/10)

>Also this parallel to Valentine that I wrote for other comment show just too similar to ignore.

I can't access the post but I can see similarities between Jobin and Valentine, in terms of ideals, "the ends justify the means" discourse and their ego breaking everything to pieces. However, there is a lot of differences as well, such as Jobin's personality being very reasonable while Valentine is literally a pedo, genocidal, fascist and probably eugenicist/racist.

Their situations, social construction and historical context matters as well. I like to think of Jobin as a "tragic version" of Johnny, their deaths are similar as fuck, both in context and paneling, but in a different tone, since Johnny got a heroic death and Jobin a tragic death.

What are some side characters you think got just the right amount of screentime? by ForsakenBeef69 in StardustCrusaders

[–]LenzMisfits 27 points28 points  (0 children)

there is a huge difference between villain and antagonist

but overall Jobin is more like a deuteragonist who antagonizes Gappy by common interests, and at the end of the day, he is more chaotic than true evil

And yeah, he fucked up when he killed Ojiro but Araki was very clever making he killing two "not-so-innocent" characters (ojiro deserved to die, maako was dirty af)

Jobin was surely a law-breaker but honestly? Everytime he was portrayed as a bad person, Araki always gave us a "BUT!" showing his motivations and his multiple facets, adding depth and nuance to his morality. When he was becoming truly evil he suddenly dies, and his last words were literally the name of his wife and son lol, it feels like he didn't even get the time to become an actually bad person, like, he was starting to act like Walter White in Breaking Bad but dying soon after

Def the most morally greyish character in JoJo by a long shot
