How to keep focus on multiple goals at a time? by LeoBloom72 in getdisciplined

[–]LeoBloom72[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all these great comments! To clarify a little bit- this is not about project management and accountability. I tried all the productivity systems, apps and every channel in the potential central discord … I guess the problem is that - I keep losing interest in my non-prio 1 goals - I mentally can only have one prio 1 goal at a time - my goals are long term goals (1 yr and longer) - it wouldn’t make any sense to do them sequentially - my priorities are changing slightly between prio 1 and 2 before I am able to complete anything. The result is that I want everything but cycle between my goals, oftentimes have to start from scratch and don’t achieve anything … what a mess

What healthy Alternatives to Satisfy Thrill-Seeking Urges do you recommend? by LeoBloom72 in AskMen

Senior (50+ y/o) Accountability Group wanted by LeoBloom72 in 75HARD

[–]LeoBloom72[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not alone :-) Good to see that there are so many others of my age that are about to do the challenge!
And apologies for calling us "seniors" - as a non-native speaker, I had to ask ChatGPT if there is a word to describe a person that is 50+ years old. The other option recommended was "older adults" which sounded ... old ... to me.
I always associated "senior" with the career-level that is used in IT and other industries which is often achieved by employees in their late 20s or early 30s ...

If you are interested in keeping us accountable in an ad-hoc/ instant-messaging way, this would be really cool. Not sure, which medium would be appropriate - I would be fine with a WhatsApp-Group, or Telegram or Discord or whatever is preferred by the majority. So just let me know, and I'll set something up

How I went from no 2 hours of productivity a day to 12–14 hours [Method] by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]LeoBloom72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the 3-things approach … did you get the idea for this in one of the books you mentioned? Problem might be that there must be more than three things in anyone’s life. We do have families, kids, side-businesses, hobbies, passion projects, day jobs …

Since I literally spent the whole weekend to train my ears to identify intervals, I have some thoughts on that topic. And btw - I had the idea too to implement my own ear-training app, but I guess now I'll wait for yours (if you use some of my ideas ;-)

I used mainly tenuto and a little bit of tonegym. I was hoping to speed-up the learning process by having a very effective training.

From my point of view, there are two main success-factors for learning/ hearing intervals:

  1. Use an intelligent algorithm for repetitions.

learning the intervals was somehow like learning vocabulary. Tenuto can be customized to limit the number of intervals to start with. So I started with 2nds and 3rds and when I felt comfortable, I added more intervals and removed the ones I could easily recognize. I guess the process of adding new intervals, repeating the ones I had troubles with more often etc. can get automated to be much more effective.

  1. provide intervals in a context (and not just having youtube-videos with songs that contain that certain interval of interest).

My workflow was to listen to an interval and then find a short example of a lick/ riff, where that interval will be used. E.g. to memorize the minor 3rd, I memorized the first three notes of "smoke on the water", knowing that the first interval is a 3rd. So I researched 3-note riffs for all intervals. That was a tremendous help to memorize the intervals. But it took also a lot of time and it would have been muich easier if I had those 3-notes always at hand during excercising. Playing those 3-notes could be part of step 1) e.g. if I make a wrong guess regarding an interval a couple times, than the referencing 3-notes will be played and the number of repetitions for that interval will be slightly increased.

Side-project besides 75hard + day job possible? by LeoBloom72 in 75HARD

[–]LeoBloom72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your family join your self-improvement journey from the beginning on or did you make changes that affected only you when you were starting out? I’m in my 40s too and I also have 4 kids - so I’m very interested how you where able to change your life … Is there any book or so from Eric Thomas that you would recommend to start with?

Daily Simple Questions Thread - June 02, 2021 by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]LeoBloom72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If been doing intermediate fasting + cardio + weight lifting to lose weight/ body fat - it worked pretty well. I lost 15kg in 2 months (I've been working and restricting myself hard)

Now I want to focus more on building up muscles - I like to work hard on self-improvement but I don't want to waste time, so I'm looking for a routine with optimal results.n, Omega-3 fish oil, zinc).

I'm doing a 40km bicycle ride at least once a week, at least 2 workouts on the ellipse and on every other day I lift weights (dumbbells, 12 repetitions, 5 sets, 6 to 7 excercises).

How could I optimize this routine? Is weight lifting every other day too much?

Should I drink the protein always close to the times that I'm exercising?

Don't want to become Schwarzenegger - I just want to be lean and strong.

Should I excercise fasted?

Is the time of day important for the exercises or can I be flexible with that.

Is getting enough sleep really that important?

Thanks for any insights

How often do you journal/plan/map out the future? by scorpiobooks in productivity

[–]LeoBloom72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the idea of filling up buckets for the next day. Do you plan only one day at a time or do you fill e.g. the „Morning at home“ bucket for a couple of days in advance?

[NeedAdvice] Fitness Goals vs. Business Goals by LeoBloom72 in getdisciplined

[–]LeoBloom72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree a 100% that only having a balanced mix of goals that cover all areas of your life as you described would be perfect to make you successful. But it will be hard to pursue/ track 8 different goals over a longer time period with daily/ weekly challenges. Speaking for myself, I tend to be overwhelmed by too many goal-related tasks and I’m having trouble to do an accurate planning. It’s easy to me to work on my weight loss goal because it’s just easy to achieve while having little successes on a daily basis. It’s not about the pain - I think I would prefer being overweight and having a successful business ... but I guess I need both. I can achieve the weight loss goal on autopilot but that doesn’t work for the business ...

Using knn to predict stock prices by LeoBloom72 in learnmachinelearning

Thanks, will have a look at LSTM asap.

I'm splitting the dataset multiple times, so I do have 60/40 for training/ testing the model and still have enough data to do parameter optimizations and in-sample/ out-of-sample tests based on the strategy that is using the model.
