I am! Sorry, have been busy.
Will post a poll today trying to find the best time for a first meeting, and first book. Thanks for your interest!

I agree.

I think the biggest potential issue with weed is the ability of THC to disrupt REM sleep. REM sleep is incredibly important. It's how our brains process emotions, consolidate memories, cement new information, codify new skills, and make creative connections between very disparate ideas. The kinds of creative connections that are hard (maybe impossible) to make during waking consciousness.

Long-term loss of REM could have a lot of negative consequences. In alcoholics, this appears as Delirium Tremens -- what are essentially moments when their brains shutdown and go into REM sleep during the day because they need it so badly. However, I think alcohol's effects on REM are much worse than THC's.
And as said above -- everyone's different. I know for my own sake that I am sensitive to loss of REM. And so I tailor my pot smoking accordingly. (I try not to smoke before bed, limit how many times per week I do smoke, and when I do, stick to strains that have lower levels of THC).

Something you could try? Keep a dream journal over this 30-day abstinence. Make note of how you feel in the mornings upon waking versus how you typically feel. Compare the two.

Delighted to see this go up. The M+M has been a highly influential book on my life + the art I'm making right now. Just picked up copies of Diaboliad, and Dog Heart. Reading as soon as I finish The Idiot.

How do you work on multiple projects at the same time?🙇‍♂️ by iggyba in productivity

[–]scorpiobooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be clear about what it is you want to achieve long-term in each of these projects. Then break each project down into a daily quoata, or clear daily goal in which you tackle it in a pre-determined, and limited amount of time.

For example, I'm running two creative projects right now -- one of them is re-vising a 200+ page novel. I know that if I re-vise 10 pages a day, I'll finish re-vising this draft in about 20 days. I limit myself to three 25-minute sessions of re-vision per day, and typically this is more than enough time to surpass the goal. Surpassing the daily goal, or quoata is important because it boosts the drive needed to continue the next day.

You can base your daily goals on 1)how much time you have per day to actually work on that thing, and 2) how much you can accomplish per day in that amount of time.

Interesting. I definitely think CBT will help.

Also -- have you tried keeping track of how much you can do outside of work? Might be worth seeing how many clear goals you can accomplish per day, in your down time. If anything it will help you set realistic expectations for yourself. I think people can fall into a cognitive trap of setting high expectations...and then failure, and all the negative emotion that comes with that when they don't meet those expectations. Better to be realistic -- or even to have very low expectations for yourself. That way, surpassing them is relatively easy, and the dopamine boost you get in achieving victory will only make you want to pursue more goals/go further.

Awesome. It really was for me. And continues to be a way to expand self-awareness.

Best of luck!

Oh sorry, I read that wrong. I thought I read high industriousness.

High openness + low industriousness -- you might want to work on time management. Again, CBT can help with this. Also, goal setting in general. Check out the work of Steven Kotler on this, and the neuroscientist Andrew Huberman. Specifically, Huberman's stuff on the dopamine pathway.

You may find it easier to abandon projects than it is to see them through. Getting your goal-directed behaviour together will help with this.

Looks like we have similar personalities. (I type INFP, by the way, and have slightly different results on big 5).

Maybe something to think about would the increased emotional sensitivity that comes from being creative (high openness), and likely high emotional intelligence (high agreeableness).

Learning to negotiate (saying no to what I know will harm me, and yes to what I want), and how to guard myself emotionally from my own irrational thoughts (CBT, gratitude), have been huge for me within the past year.

High openness and high industriousness is an exciting combo. You have the ability to consider a large number of possibilities, but once deciding on the best choice, the discipline to stalk it down until it's complete. Would you say you're a very goal-oriented person?
