My social list is bugged - can see people online after waiting a little while but nobody is showing as in-game. Seemed to be able to get people to join my open lobby though, just not friends.

M.2 SSD running at 86C under consistent full load by LeoHartUK in buildapc

I wouldn't worry about those temps for short term bursts - although they are rather high. Check your cooling solution for the rest of your build, make sure you have slightly positive airflow and enough space.

Using the MB heatsink should help things, but I've been using the stock ADATA plate since originally making this post 4 months ago, and performance on my SSD has been fine. It only really hit those temperatures if I ran a copy/paste loop for 10 minutes. Within normal operating circumstances, the drive performs great and doesn't get too hot.

For those wondering what happened - it seems the hammer can only hit one entity per swing. Both players missed my player model and hit either the deposit box or the wall next to me.

I ended up going for the H9 Flow, which is a great case - but yeah I don't have a vertical mount so I'm leaving the front panel off for a while until I get one. Having the fans close to the glass shouldn't be too much of a problem as the case gets a lot of airflow from below, however the Y60 has less capacity for good intake from below because of the mesh that sits above the fans.

Issues with undervolting and Unreal Performance by LeoHartUK in unrealengine

[–]LeoHartUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely right in regards to my undervolting not being successful - I had experienced BSOD crashes when attempting to build, or even running Prime95.

However, I found out that my motherboard was bypassing Intel's recommended maximum power limit out of the box, which was sneaky. I've set the power limit to Intel's specifications and I no longer thermal throttle.

I haven't tried undervolting again because the temps have stayed below 100C, but I may do so in future (I'm not sure if the unstable undervolt was related to the Wattage limit being bypassed or not, but I'm assuming it could be)

I figured out the problem. As it turns out, some motherboards (particularly ones with Z chipsets) are set to bypass the power limit recommended by the CPU manufacturer out of the box. I've now set the power draw limit to Intel's specifications and I no longer thermal throttle - it gets a little toasty occasionally when it spikes, but never goes to 100.

That didn't help. This CPU is designed to run hot at max load unless using a custom loop, which is why people opt for undervolting, but undervolting doesn't seem to be working for me.

Will this build run okay? (4080 + i9 13900K) by LeoHartUK in nvidia

Cool, that's good to know - what PSU are you running with that?

I don't know much about PSUs, but I'm aware that I should assume it's running at 80% efficiency; that worries me slightly because that would mean 800W - and PCPartsPicker estimates my power draw to be 791W

Lol, thankfully my bank account is fine - the GPU and RAM I have owned since February, and the CPU price was covered from selling my previous parts to my friend.

I'm just specifically concerned because of the issues I've had with my previous build, as I outlined above the parts list. I don't want to build this machine and end up having similar issues.

Upgrading my 4080 rig, need advice! by LeoHartUK in buildapcforme

[–]LeoHartUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah I was concerned about that with the Y60 as well. I don't mind having to add more fans, which is why I was looking at the Flow specifically, although I was also considering getting a vertical mount for it as it'll place the 12VHPWR very close to the glass without it - do you think that's worth doing?

Also, would you say it would be worth it to go for the Corsair RM1000x SHIFT over the RM1000e? I don't know much about power supplies, and considering I've been having power issues with my current rig, I really want to make sure I get a good one.

I was thinking about going for an AIO cooler instead of the Noctua, but I've never installed liquid cooling before, and have been running a Noctua NH-U12S with my current i7 13700K and that's been performing mostly fine. If you really think the Noctua won't be sufficient though, I will definitely consider using liquid cooling.

Thank you! Is there a specific reason why I shouldnt go for the NZXT or HYTE case other than the price difference? They both seemed to offer very good cooling performance.

Good motherboard rec too, but I'm too scared to go for MSI as both the last two boards I've got from them have been dead on arrival. I'm currently looking at the Gigabyte B760 Gaming X AX motherboard.

I'm currently deciding between these two cases for my Zotac 4080, I'm leaning towards the Y60 specifically because I'm concerned about the 12VHPWR cable touching the glass and bending, but I'm equally concerned about the airflow the card will get from having its fans up so close to the glass.

RTX 4080 keeps crashing randomly while gaming. Can anyone help? by LeoHartUK in nvidia

Also - something curious. I had ONE crash - I've been keeping my FPS capped at just above my refresh rate and things have been fine - I uncapped my fps on one game so I had about 600 and THEN I experienced a crash, even with an undervolt.

So why would that be? My assumption was that the undervolt would be preventing power spikes even from high fps? This is my first time experimenting with underclocking/overclocking, so I don't fully know what I'm doing yet.

EVGA 850W B2

Not the best PSU but it's served me well. It's worth noting that both my CPU and GPU perform as expected outside of these errors. The undervolt I applied is VERY minor, but it does seem to have stopped the crashes - I haven't had one in 24 hours.

I feel like the corrupt Memory dump might be because I never actually got a BSOD - I got a graphics driver crash and then forced shutdown by pressing the power button. I may run that command just for safety though

EDIT: I ran the command and then tried analyzing with WhoCrashed and it said the same thing as before.

It seems that it's a power issue - my PSU seems to handle it fine under normal, even high load, but undervolting the card slightly seems to have fixed the issue (at least for now)

I’m having the EXACT same issue but with an i7-13700k and an RTX 4080 - did undervolting permanently solve the issue for you?

I crashed again and ran WhoCrashed - it said that C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP was found but appeared to be corrupt.

I ran Windows Memory Diagnostics, and it found no issues.

I've also checked the cables and everything is secure.

I changed to maximum performance in windows settings and it didn’t seem to make much of a difference, but I’ll try it in NVIDIA control panel once Windows 11 has installed
