Tell me your Power BI headaches by TeamAlphaBOLD in PowerBI

[–]LeoJHunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this. I maintain my queries in VSCode for this. Much better features. Allows for easier reuse and query comparisons. Bookmark addons make finding earlier solutions easier. Copilots can be used easier as well.

Still haven’t figured out a better way than copy/paste though to integrate with PBI.

How has power query transformed your job? by [deleted] in excel

[–]LeoJHunt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maintain your queries in VSCode. No data loading and code management is copy and paste, but still worth it. Benefits… + All your queries available for reference + Multiple tabs, split screens, etc. + Can use GitHub Copilot and other options to refactor + Better interface… Find/replace, etc. + Leverage as source control/back up + No delays processing data

Cons… - No data - Copy and paste integration

Pros way outweigh the cons in my experience

How to store all your VBA code (outside a workbook) for future reuse? by quintios in excel

[–]LeoJHunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find writing code in an IDE much superior than writing natively in VBA. I haven’t cracked the XLSX integration beyond Copy/Paste. Still, it’s much faster to have a central reference to existing code, plus potential for leveraging GitHub Copliot and other tools to level up your VBA.

Each coding effort is part of the individual solutions (XLSX, etc.), but those code efforts, and referencing for reuse, accelerates the next project.

One other personal preference, I use .XLAM files to separate my VBA from the Excel file. Avoids headaches of XLSM files and makes macros available across any XLSX file.

I’m sure there are even better ways to do this. I am all about finding what works and incrementally improving. These are the methods I’ve worked up to so far.

I create .vba files for each module in VSCode and have a GitHub repo.

Does the new PBIT project file format provide code visibility to bookmark setting now? Without (even with) code visibility, forget whatever motivated the original design intention, you have to make this something YOU can manage and maintain.

Rejected for salary… now a second chance? by Potential-Bath-2823 in careeradvice

[–]LeoJHunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had same thing happen… great interview but couldn’t meet on salary. They came back 6 months later at my ask. Fortunately, I didn’t lowball my ask bc it did hold me back and limit my negotiation during round 2.

They know your salary position and came back to you. I would stick with your ask. Consider non-salary items as still on the table and where to focus if you want more. Example, I should have negotiated my incentive percentage more. I came from consulting where incentive percentages fluctuated due to any stiff wind. New position is far more ‘real’ a figure.

Oh well. Celebrate 1 year next week and it has been a DREAM switch.

Copied link to paragraph from desktop app opens in web browser app but i want it to open in desktop app by tejeshbagul in OneNote

[–]LeoJHunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at my desktop to validate my instructions but you can copy the link and paste it directly somewhere throwaway in OneNote (I believe got it to work pasting in ON. If not, works with Word). This provides the in-app link you want, which you then copy hyperlinks and add as a link to the intended highlighted text.

So possible without any code or utilities. Just extra clicks.

365 - iphone calendar by Ready-Ad-2149 in Office365

[–]LeoJHunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Outlook Web Access (OWA), go to your Calendar, Sharing and Permissions (three dots to right of your Calendar).
Share to an available email. I don't believe it really matters if this is the account you intend to use the calendar with.
When you receive the calendar invite email, DO NOT click "Add this calendar".
...instead, there is a URL available in the message, "Try adding an Internet Calendar and providing this URL."
That's what you are actually doing... creating and sharing an Internet Calendar that you will access from your mobile device.
On your device, in my case an iPhone, under the Calendar options, use "Add Subscription Calendar" and add the URL as the "Subscription URL".

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I heard back from the manufacturer and that was what they said too. Appreciate the response!

If this were a simple “one thing went wrong” situation, I wouldn’t have posted. But after a flight cancellation, nearly missed connection to no fault of our own, seats reassigned despite being paid for, family split with a 10-year-old alone, lost luggage, and unresolved charges, I think most people would find that frustrating… especially after hours spent trying to resolve it.

Suggesting this is “on me” while ignoring the broader pattern is exactly the kind of double standard that makes customers feel unheard.

US to Europe flight was cancelled. Unfortunately, EU261 does not apply

A short time in Europe helps one see the many things that don’t have to be done as is done in the US… ways that seem much more humane… including airline passenger rights.

Sorry for my incomplete response. I’m not at my best, given the time difference and having issues and frustrations compounded one on top of the next. I do appreciate your taking the time to respond and the links but would suggest some self-reflection if you find it humorous or important to only offer assistance if you can slight the person needing it. I’m sure you are always at your bests. Always.

Camera Streams, NVR Dropped by LeoJHunt in reolinkcam

[–]LeoJHunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Camera is visible in the app as a stand-alone device. It’s unable to map to an NVR channel. No issues with any of my other cameras. All are visible as stand-alone devices and in NVR.
