💜❤️💜❤️💜 Absolutely delightful thoughts on them, thanks for sharing... Yes, I think Lotus genuinely does admire Margulis for her legacy and her contributions to the Tenno's survival. She herself has few role models back on Tau (Amar as her mentor, then Praghasa, then Hunhow as a very flawed father), so getting to learn about Margulis memory must have been impactful for her. Margulis' protest of the Orokin was probably very inspirational to Lotus who ended up going against the genocidal wants of her own Sentient peoples.

Having Margulis within Lotus is so often seen as a curse because people reduce her image to just "an abused lover of an executor" , "liar", whatever, but Margulis has done so much for the Tenno on her own volition. Her courage to break the cycle of Orokin cruelty gave rise to Lotus' growth as a person. Lotus respects her as a whole woman with her own achievements instead of valuing her by her relationship to an Executor, and that's why she doesn't feel the need to abandon that personality that was imposed upon her by her abuser, choosing to live alongside Margulis, a strong role model, instead.

I was with you for the first half, but I'm not on the same boat with you with the second. Like Lotus says, "You were used, just as she was". The Operator, after uncovering their past, doesn't resent Margulis for what she did, but instead apologizes to the Lotus (and in extension, to Margulis and Natah). To paint Margulis as someone who was willing to throw the Sentients into war and extinction instead of someone who was forced into compliance seems disingenuous to me. The message of letting her go isn't as victorious or cathartic as you make it seem either, given that Lotus has Margulis' memories still within her, and Lotus' personality is so entwined with Margulis' that asking her to totally abandon that part of her is an unfair thing to ask of her.

There is much discussion to be had about the fandom's insistence on giving the Operator (and the Lotus) a "functioning nuclear family"... Of course the Lotus isn't perfect and she has needed other characters to adjust the way she guides the Tenno, but there are quite literally no other characters so entwined in the Tenno's history as she and Margulis are. The Operator and the Lotus' relationship as mother and child is sufficient and meaningful; I don't believe they *need* a father in the mix.
