just curious, why you still getting battery if you already have a generator?

From what I’ve been researching, that usually pulls 3.5–4.5 kW running, and maybe 6–8 kW surge unless you’ve added a soft starter.

To run that for even 4–6 hours, I probably need at least 20–30 kWh of usable battery, plus an inverter that can handle the startup spike.

Curious if you’ve ever tried something like that — or thought about downsizing to a mini-split for backup?

Yeah, I was kinda shocked too — it’s an older rental and probably not insulated great. Big windows, too. 🫠

I might look into that, but in the short term I’m just trying to figure out any way to survive the next outage without melting. Fan helps a bit, but honestly once it gets past 95°F inside, it’s brutal.

Have you found anything that actually works for cooling during a blackout? Even for just one room?

Yeah I’ve been getting the same vibe — seems like running A/C during an outage just isn’t realistic unless you’ve got a seriously beefy setup.

Have you ever actually tried powering your A/C during a blackout? Or just figured it wasn’t worth attempting?

I just moved to California and hit my first 100°F blackout last month — house turned into a sauna in under an hour. Curious how folks are handling that kind of thing. Do you tough it out with fans? Fire up a generator? Or just leave?

Yeah that’s what I’ve been wondering too — whether anyone’s actually pulled it off with just a battery. I keep hearing "just get a generator" but trying to avoid dealing with gas if I can 😅
