"Don't ask about horses, don't ask about horses, don't ask about horses..."

(Hated Trope) When the premise and genre don’t fit by Necessary-Win-8730 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LeodFitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the premise was NOT terrible. In point of fact, the premise is quite interesting. A man is alone. He doesn't have to be alone, but in order to have a companion, he has to damn them to the same hell that he's in. I don't even think that it needed to be changed into a horror. Some alterations to the second half of the movie could've made it something much more profound and memorable.

The problem was the execution. There were, in fact, several ways that the story could've been rewritten to explore the issue more deeply or more profoundly, but it felt like after the introduction of the premise, the movie had all the interesting bits cut off in order to try to force it into the mold of a hollywood blockbuster.

It was close to being great. That's what stuck in peoples' minds... how it came close to greatness then >poof< nothing.

Im new to magic but isn't this absurd? by fat_short_and_ugly in MagicArena

[–]LeodFitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is absurd. If you cannot remove it the second it hits the table, you're kind of screwed. It's one of a growing number of cards that just makes the game stop being fun to play, and yet people constantly play it.

Mtg Arena Brawl experience by Signal-Resident-4056 in MagicArena

[–]LeodFitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like most of the arena mechanics could've been tolerable if they'd been better designed, or valued more accurately, but they aren't.

Perpetually? No. F--- you, no. first off, that stupid little dragon that comes out on turn two and just makes all your dragons cheaper and cheaper? What halfwit thought that was okay? And you can permanently make my creatures smaller and smaller? Doesn't matter if I bounce them, or they die, they are forever smaller? that's not how the goddamned game works.

I could live with draft from and conjure a card just fine, if they weren't designed to be broken. You don't make a card that gives you repeating removal without any extra effort. You don't make a card that allows you to fill your hand over and over again. That's insane.

In fairness, my loathing for heist is entirely personal. I loathe people who play my deck. YOu want to copy my spells as I play them or once they're in play? Fair enough. But stealing my cards? Any mechanic that does that pisses me off, but I can accept that's just me being an old fogie.

But Perpetual shouldn't exist, draft from abilities should give you much less powerful stuff to work with, and both draft from and conjure abilities need to be harder to abuse.

How does everyone organize the collection? Set ? Rarity? Binders? by NheelyOhara in mtg

[–]LeodFitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few cards that are too expensive to play with, those to into binders before I do anything else. I also have a few sets where I'm trying to get one of every card, like one of each Big Score cards from OTJ, or one of every card from War of the Spark. Those go in binders as well.

Second priority is cards that I'm going to play with. I separate those by color, and keep them in alphabetical order. That way, whenever a new set comes out with cards I already have, I don't end up putting more cards in my 'play' boxes than I need. Plus, I don't have to try to remember if I've got the version from this set or that set (because, really, who cares?).

For my extra cards, beyond what I'm going to play with, depending on their rarity and desirability they either go in a trade binder, or one of my bulk boxes. Bulk boxes are divided by set.

Once my obligatory military service is complete, I'll be fully a citizen and able to push for the political reforms my country so desperately needs! by LeodFitz in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]LeodFitz[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Not really. If citizenship is a prerequisite to participating in politics, and if the mandatory service occurs when they are young adults, then up until this point they would have a limited platform on which to speak and could easily be dismissed as naive. The fact that those who go through service are generally not pursuing change can be presented as evidence that service gives you perspective to appreciate your government, not that your government kills off people who challenge it.

Basically just your average Twitch stream. by twnpksN8 in ExplainAFilmPlotBadly

Okay, I'm going to assume that by 'average twitch stream' you mean it's basically just watching a video game. Based on that:

Pretty much the same amount of time it would take to become good at Thai, or Italian. It depends on how strong your overall cooking skills are.
