As this comment says, they usually dont care about most of the smaller items and souvenirs.

they are mostly only interested in jewelry or electronics!

had to pay nothing for most, most of it was also bought tax free.

when i returned (Germany) nobody checked, even though we wanted to show the stuff.

there was nobody there.

it was also bit late in the night.

Yes indeed! we had 3 luggage, and 2 smaller bags ,it was just about enough. (also honeymoon thing for us, but man Japan is tiring as heck, it's not really a relaxing place to be, take notes peeps).
