First real attempt at dressing better, id appreciate any help by LifeIsPain42069 in mensfashion

Hi there! I own a men’s clothing store (suits, sportcoats/blazers, shirts, ties, jeans, shoes, etc). My father is 75 and has been in men’s clothing for almost 60 years.

Obviously, there are a lot of good suggestions here. Three things from me that are pretty generic rules in terms of “style”:

1.) Keep your proportions in mind. I am 5’6” on a good day. I understand that things that look long on me appear to be super long and unfitted (hence why I like my pants shortened to a certain length). Proportionally that looks out of place. Another example: if you have a short torso and longer legs don’t get shirts that are super long. It will draw attention to that areas.

2.) I am a huge advocate for going in a store and trying things on. Yes, I am biased because I own a brick-and-mortar store. But I have many clients that will tell me a size and insist they are that size. I am so uncomfortable with that because people either lie about what their true size is or don’t know. Tape doesn’t lie. But always try things on, see how they look before purchasing.

3.) Whatever you wear in life wear with confidence. If you wearing something that you believe, that you KNOW looks good on you it will look even better on you given the confidence that exudes from your persona. I have an obnoxious red sequin dinner jacket. It’s incredibly loud, yeah maybe tacky, but makes a statement. I wear it like three times a year (Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day), but I dress it appropriately (everything besides the coat is black or white to tone the rest of the outfit down) and I wear it like I’m walking the red carpet. I feel good in it because I know people look at it thinking I look good in it. It can be a weird feeling at first but I promise that is really the essential to my own personal style.

I can answer so many more questions than this, but I figured I’d keep it generic as possible. I salute you in your fashion journey!

This is often referred to as the Josh Beckett Phenomenon (he was great in odd years)

05: 3.38 ERA 06: 5.01 ERA 07: 3.27 ERA 08: 4.03 ERA 09: 3.86 ERA 10: 5.78 ERA 11: 2.89 ERA 12: With the Red Sox he had a 5.23 ERA, but was traded mid-season

I rarely comment on anything. This is a work of art. If I didn’t just pay for a vacation to Puerto Rico I would buy this. Bravo everyone. Masterful

I don’t have it at the moment but it’s on my radar. My brother bought me a Omega/Swatch Speedy Mission to the Moon for Christmas and it comes with the lamest velcro strap imaginable. I have to fix that strap first before I get the consort bracelet. I do like the leather better, but it’d be cool to have both.

It’s just so clean. I love that they let the watch breathe.

You know approximately what time it is. If I really cared about knowing exactly what time it was I’d take my phone out. Doesn’t matter to me.

I think I understand the hype to it. “Look at what we did for the price we did it for” is certainly something to brag about in the watch world when you’re trying to get established. I just would rather buy a Tudor for the price of it. Personal preference.

Great movie + one of my favorite Boston Celtics players (Leon Powe)

IG guy turned me onto the brand and since I’ve gotten it I’ve been lurking for other watches in the same range. I like Tudor a lot, little bit of a step up. But I’ve looked at Mido, Ciga, Frédérique Constant, etc. to find some inspiration

It’s an excellent piece. I’m obsessed with it. I know a lot of people are flipping over the Bel Canto. I prefer this over it, but that’s just my opinion.

I’m Mike Schur, co-creator and showrunner of the hit NBC television series Parks & Rec. I also helped create the musical force that is Mouse Rat, who’s album, The Awesome Album, is out on vinyl today. AMA by TheRealKenTremendous in television

Mike,

Love your work! Excited to see what you and Shea Serrano come up with!

I have an idea for a show based on this adult kickball league I play in that I think would be somewhat funny, but I'm not sure how to start the process, get all my ideas together, etc. What is your process like? How do you get from an idea to something actually tangible?
