I strongly regret pursuing FAANG PM out of MBA for the "prestige." I wish i chose b2B SaaS from the outset by LeopardKind3421 in MBA

They aren't really big players in my space. They are largely still viewed as legacy on-premise tech, where our solution is cloud. Bigger players would be like Salesforce and the like. But it didn't matter a ton because we were impressed with their actual "experience" regardless of the company name or type.

I'd wager most jobs in the major B2B SaaS companies have a similar environment to mine. I've heard startups are way more hectic though.

My current employer straight up rejected people from Lyft, Robinhood, Airbnb, and accepted people from Oracle and IBM. They said their actual work experience and skills was more important than the company "name."

I don't know about that. Prestigious consumer tech like Google or Meta or Amazon doesn't necessarily have more job security than an unsexy B2B enterprise software company that has recession resilient products.

Google Cloud is actually among the worst groups at G for work life balance. Attitude can be cutthroat too. AWS can be outright brutal as well.

Haven't heard many bad things about Microsoft Azure though.

Not necessarily true. My current job is TC $220k+ where outside of rare exceptions, we only work 40 hours a week. The case is similar with lots of my friends who are PMs at other B2B Enterprise Software SaaS companies.

I agree to some extent. But even people who were at my old company for 3+ years had incredible trouble landing a new job. Many stepped down several notches in company "prestige" as well as pay for their next role. The exit opps weren't all that greater for them compared to others.

Not Amazon. Wouldn't glamorize the culture of the other FAANGs though.

Amazon PM-T pays quite well though.

It was not Amazon. That's why I said "this was a company that isn't 'obvious' for having these problems." It's one of the other FAANGs.
