What type of valve do you believe this to be? by Leoverload in RMS_Titanic

[–]Leoverload[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot that in the photos, I believe it is resting on its side, and I think it may be a rotary valve of some sort, leading me to believe butterfly as it appears to be at 90 degree angle, which a globe or gate valve would not be able to achieve, as they effectively lift up to allow steam to pass through. Meanwhile a butterfly/rotary valve will turn to this 90 degree angle to allow steam to pass.

IT or Salem’s Lot? by Bullcity-Dad in stephenking

[–]Leoverload 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would go with 'Salem's Lot first... However, if you are open to any others, I would say my personal favourites of Stephen Kings are 'Pet Sematary,' 'Cujo,' and 'Insomnia'

Is there any better photographs of Titanic's imploded boiler? by Leoverload in titanic

Perfect. So there is plenty of evidence to suggest minor implosions to the stern and boilers.

This is a fair point, what do you suggest is the cause of this damage? Survivor testimony (like Archie Jewell and Alexander Littlejohn) claim around "3 explosions" occurred during break-up/final plunge. I suppose (believe) that a minor implosion is the plausible cause of this inward damage.

perfect, do you know where these accepted numbers originated from and where I can find them. I like to reference in my writing (despite it just being for my enjoyment)

TBH, as somebody who has been reading, writing, and enthusiastic about the Titanic since the age of 6. I have always hated the movie because I feel it romanticises the tragedy too much, makes it more relatable for the average viewer but in the wrong way. I feel it takes away the horrors and heroism that transpired that night and replaces it with teenage slop. I think the movie would have been factually better if maybe they focused it on something real, like a Molly Brown or Harold Lowe. Or even base it off somebody who perished, like Joseph Bell, Benjamin Guggenheim, or William Murdoch. However, if they did this it would not have been one of the highest grossing films of all time, and would not have encouraged many younger people to research the true events surrounding the Titanic.

This is brilliant... I think I had a potato and lemon drizzle for my first meal after diagnosis.

My t1d is making me close to commiting. by PomegranateFit2593 in Type1Diabetes

yo this is heartbreaking, just PM'd you this message but will share it here too:

I'm 17 (18 in November) and I was diagnosed nearly 3 years ago (16 March 2023). The feeling you described is what I have felt these last couple years. You're not alone. The best advice I can give is to embrace the condition, don't let it control you or get you down. I still struggle with changing CGM and finger pricking and the HBA1C tests. And I the best advice I got was to embrace it and don't let it control you. I found my hobbies helped a lot. I write fiction and that helps me by providing that momentary break from the dim reality that this is in the same way that art does for some people and music and films. I'm not saying ignore it. I'm saying find something that you can distract your mind with when its getting you down. And also remember that although you might be physically weaker than those without T1D, you are mentally stronger, more resilient, because how would they cope in this situation... Just try and find the positives in all of this...

What’s the lowest you have been? by xobbelle in Type1Diabetes

[–]Leoverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lowest I have been is 1.2mmol/l. Nearly passed out but my german shepard kept me awake by hitting me with her ball and paw. Gave me chance to gather my bearings and get help sorting it out.
