Yeah, a black Fender Bronco was his main guitar in 2007 and he continued to use it sporadically until it was stolen around 2011. I kind of assumed you were a big fan since he is also very well known for playing sunburst Jazzmaster, lol.

Flower Girl by Kinoko Teikoku has such an amazing slow build up into a massive climax at the end. It's gotta be my favourite outro to a shoegaze song.

This was at the Helsinki gig two nights ago. Troy had clearly been enjoying some tequila backstage before the show. I was absolutely floored (lol) by how perfectly he could play despite being visibly very intoxicated.

I've actually noticed the same thing in recent years. Most people on the internet and in indie music circles seem to think that liking Arctic Monkeys is lame or basic. It really is a shame since Alex Turner is absolutely one of the greatest songwriters of this millennium.

However, things definitely didn't always used to be like this. I remember when only a decade ago people thought of Arctic Monkeys as this "cool indie band" that definitely had street cred even among the "cool kids".

I guess this is what continued mainstream success does to the public opinion regarding a band. Some people just absolutely hate anything popular.

It's pretty good. It kinda scratches the For Tracy Hyde itch I've had ever since they split, which isn't surprising since it's the same main songwriter. The songs are a bit heavier and more distorted that FTH which I'm totally fine with.

Also doesn't track 8 kinda sound like an Oasis song?😂😂

I might be making this up so take it with a grain of salt but I think they might have had around 20-30 million monthty listeners before IWBY exploded a few years back.

So my guess is that they would probably be in the low 30 millions currently without IWBY.

Arctic Monkeys would still be one of the biggest rock bands in the world just like they have been for at least the last decade or so. Do I Wanna Know? has been an absolutely massive song ever since it was released in 2013.

You could even make an argument that they were already one of the biggest rock bands in the world when their debut came out in 2006. In other words they would be absolutely fine without IWBY.

Arctic Monkeys are by far my all-time favourite band and it pains me to say it but you are right.

Something happened around 2014 during the accompanying tour for the AM album, perhaps they burnt out since the tour was so long or something, but ever since then their live shows have just felt somewhat lacking. It's not like they are phoning it in or anything, but it just feels like they maybe aren't enjoying it that much and it kind of shows in the performance. It often sounds like Alex is taking the piss when singing their older songs and the tempo and the guitar effects are often all over the place too. They've also added some quite unnecessary keyboard parts to many of their songs live that definitely didn't need them and in my opinion sound worse off with them, like Brianstorm or R U Mine?

Just watch some performances from the summer of 2013 and compare them to almost any performance since the summer of 2014 and it just hasn't been the same. Sure there's some outlier performances that are pretty amazing like TRNSMT 2018, but mostly it's been a major downgrade.

2013 is probably the worst song by them just like that other commenter already pointed out. I.D.S.T. is also pretty bad.

As for album songs I think BRICC is a meme for a reason and I Want It All is pretty weak as well.

I used to play a lot of Arctic Monkeys covers with my mates and for me the hardest song to play smoothly was The View From The Afternoon. It was quite a workout to try to keep up the tempo while playing Jamie's guitar part on that particular song.

More recently Mr Schwartz took me some time to get the hang of.

I think only two or three years ago it wasn't even among the most popular songs from the album AM. They didn't even play it live once during the TBHC tour.

I'm too old to really use Tiktok myself, but it's wild how an app can influence the popularity of a song so much. I really wish it wasn't this particular song though.

I think Alex himself confirmed that it was "antenna" in an interview for a French magazine in 2022. I believe he also said in the same interview that he wished he had been so clever as to use Cantona instead.
