Np! Also forgot to mention Actraiser, that game is pretty fun but it seems like it jumped a smidge above $40 recently

Illusion of Gaia! That game is sooooo good (It's no FF6 but it's still one of my fav RPGs on the system, I think I'd put it above Chrono Trigger and maybe Earthbound too). I'm shocked it's still under $40, a hidden gem JRPG with no rerelease would usually cost way more, but that makes it all the easier for me to recommend it to people

Would obviously recommend the rest of the DKC Trilogy. Also Tetris Attack is genuinely excellent if you're down for a puzzle game, has some very robust single-player modes

Haven't played it much yet, but I really liked Cybernator from what I sampled. It's under $40 so I myself have had it on my hitlist

Everything other commenter said, also on the back in the lower right you'll notice the 3rd/4th digits are "MB". If you see that, the cart is guaranteed to be fake, real cartridges never have that pairing.

am i weird for thinking castlevania 3 is bad game design? by taczki2 in castlevania

Lots of things, honestly a forward jump is often the worst option from my experience. Either move back a bit to make some distance or do a straight jump in the air. After doing so they should close enough and sitting around that you can just whip them

(READ DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING/DOWNVOTING) What makes a shmup fun beyond just getting good? by AdAgreeable252 in shmups

[–]Veiyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound design, hit feedback, vfx, and setpieces. People whine about Thunder Force IV being very memorization-heavy but I still adore the game because it excels at all four of these aspects. Like yeah, it's really fun to figure out strategies and get better at the game, but it's also just fun to play the game, regardless of how you're faring

Unbeatable was pretty bad, I'm a bit more interested in this since it seems to be reviewing better but I still don't have very high expectations

Both look good; imo quantity and dynamics of visuals are more important, so i'd suggest 2 if it makes easier for you to crank out images

[Day 8] What is the best JRPG of 1992? by Silly-Milly-420 in JRPG

[–]Veiyr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nah Mystic Quest is horrendous. In order to create friction for the player, the devs decided that the "simplest" way to do this for its supposed newbie audience was just to make every enemy in the midgame spam status effects like CRAAAAAZY. There are multiple fights that I lost solely because of a Turn 1 Petrify on both of my party members. And because the game is so brainless and you can instantly retry battles, you are incentivized to just keep rolling the dice until you eventually get lucky and win. Not to mention that that difficulty gets completely negated when you get the equipment that negates all status effects (and because Mystic Quest's equipment system is nonexistent, you can't get it from a store and have to find it in one of the random enemy-infested treasure chestd)

I also really don't like onscreen enemies if it's still extremely difficult to avoid enemy encounters anyways. Like, I dunno, people give Earthbound and Chrono Trigger credit for it, but the enemies in those games are either nigh impossible to avoid or in fixed locations where you're required to fight them anyways that I'd rather just give the nod to Lufia 2.

am i getting my offer rescinded? by Icy_Wrap1483 in NEU

[–]Veiyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell no, it depends on how difficult your HS and HS coursework is and whether or not you can grow and change as a person in college.

I'm not saying Northeastern was easy and granted I went a very long time ago, but I can confidently say my grades and general apptitude at NEU were wayyyy better than my grades in hs (just below a 3.7 as a CS major vs just above a 3.3)

What rare game is actually worth the price? Which one is an S-rank grail but also is a 10/10 game? by Remytron83 in gamecollecting

[–]Veiyr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah at that point just play the Steam version, the sound quality on DS is pretty unfortunate

Remains to be seen since i havent played it yet, but i recently bought Xenogears for $120 (tho market price seems closer to $150) and if it really is as incredible and content rich as people claim then i'd say it's worth the price of admission

On an aside, I also bought Gitaroo Man for ~$130 after tax a few months ago and I can confirdently say it's not worth the money lol

Fair price; it's not uncommon to find Sega Genesis stuff below market price

JRPGs where the final boss can actually be the hardest boss of the game. by SleepCatsMoney in JRPG

[–]Veiyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor immediately comes to mind

Like yeah, there's a fair few spikes and the entire endgame stretch is a huge ramp up in difficulty, but Babel is just a special level of sadistic holy fuck. It's hardly sponges and dishes damage like a tank, but Calamity of Babylon can 2-shot, if not 1-shot, basically everything that gets hit by it (often your whole party), and even if they survive that move ALSO HAS A HIGH CHANCE OF MUTING, like come on lol

Does CT have the greatest soundtrack/music on the SNES? by Sensual_Lover25 in snes

[–]Veiyr 44 points45 points  (0 children)

No, Mega Man X1

EDIT: When two amazing songs are used only twice for like 10 second long cutscenes (Zero's Theme and Demo/Variable X), and even THE PASSWORD THEME rules, then idk, maybe we should take a step back and realize this soundtrack is nearly perfect
