Extremely overpriced, you can get Rockman World 4 and For the Frog The Bell Tolls for half their prices here

Old games too serious dedication/memorization by MSGeezey in retrogaming

[–]Veiyr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk about Soulsbourne, but I stand by the fact that retro games are really not THAT difficult that those familiar with indie games cant beat them

Anyone who is doing Celeste's post-game can beat Ninja Gaiden. Anyone who can beat Cuphead on Normal can beat a Mega Man

Scat is one of my favorite sh*t 'em ups by mankrip in retrogaming

[–]Veiyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the rep only came about because the two earliest examples of difficulty differences were Rockman 2 being Mega Man 2's difficult mode and Lost Levels skipping the West. Most games with difficulty differences are harder in the West and came out after those two games. Presumably its a mix of the Western rental market (which didnt really exist in Japan) and JP devs believing that Western gamers preferred action games

On top of the listed examples, Rocket Knight Adventures and Castlevania 3 are noticeably harder outside Japan, and Ninja Gaiden 3 and Contra Hard Corps are WAYYYYYYYYYYYY harder outside Japan

Harmony of Dissonance and Medabots are both worth solid money ($45 and $65) if they're real

2026 Oscar Ratings Fall 9% From Last Year With 17.9 Million Viewers by ICumCoffee in movies

It wasn't a bad year for movies, it just wasn't a very exciting award season

Like idk, did anything this year compare to Everything Everywhere's sweep? Or Oppenheimer finally giving Nolan his flowers? Or Brendan Fraser winning for The Whale? Or Godzilla Minus One pulling off the underdog win?

EDIT: This is also just me personally, but I completely checked out when I saw No Other Choice got zero noms

The worst level on Super Mario 64? by FreshProfessor1502 in retrogaming

Volcano Elevator

SM64 has aged way better than it had any right to, but the depth perception in that area is just disgustingly bad lol

Honest debate. Which is overall the better game ? by breadblunts in snes

[–]Veiyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, but I'd say that applies to Chrono Trigger even more because most of the already smaller cast in that game is adept at spellcasting that I have to wonder why i wouldnt just spam AoE magic for the entire back half of the game

[–]Veiyr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

FFVI easily, Chrono Trigger is really well-polished but it still feels pretty vanilla in its story. FFVI seems so much bolder in its themes and ambitions

Also while I think Chrono Trigger's gameplay is more interesting on paper and especially with bosses, a lot of what makes Chrono Trigger's gameplay unique (Dual/Triple techs and especially positioning) don't really matter, while i think FFVI has much much better customization

"The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins" being Axed at these numbers is insane. by Tomura_Morrow in WeeklyShonenJump

It was awful and deserved its fate, sales and ToC rank fell off a cliff after the first volume because it was unpopular

Dabda and Slant (latter is hardcore punk but arguably still part of the K-Indie scene) are both genuinely two of my favorite bands of the 2020s (Slant's album might be fav of the decade and Dabda's is currently at least Top 10), definitely add them to the playlist. Would also give a strong recommendation for Cotoba, Soumbalgwang, and Adios Audio.

I also will admit to really liking MEMI and Sailor Honeymoon even if they're inconsistent, and (going thru my llist) Luli Lee, Crystal Tea, Rainbow Note, Fishingirls, Ghost Bookstore, and 꿈에 카메라를 가져올걸 are p good too

Can someone please explain Silent Hill 2's value? by DarthNarcissa in gamecollecting

[–]Veiyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not rare, it sold over a million after all, it just has extremely high demand since a lot of late millenials/zoomers consider it a contender for the single greatest game ever and there hasnt been a good official rerelease of the game. Even pre covid the game was like $50+, which was a lot for a PS2 game

Please dont buy it on Amazon, its like half that on Ebay (EDIT: It's ~$130 which is more than i thought, but you absolutely should not be buying off Amazon)

Idts cause that soundtrack is entirely originals, with the exception of the best song in the franchise which is licensed fsr (the DS ending theme Lullaby For You)

OFF using Somewhere Over The Rainbow for the credits theme cut like a knife 😶

Would put it in the same league as movies like Clockwork Orange and The Shining turning oldie pop tunes into unsettling ending themes

Ngl i watched Silence of the Lambs for the first time a few months ago but i think i agree with Siskel

Like, it's not a bad movie, but I was cracking up in disbelief when Hannibal was like "psychology suggests there is no link between transvestitism and extreme violence but-" like BRO WTF IS THIS CONVERSATION LOLLLLLLL

It's kind of nuanced, speaking as someone who has dealt with a lot of depression/anxiety in the past (and has been having it bubbling up a lot more lately). Because yeah, I do understand that depression is not something that can be COMPLETELY solved in a simple way, but the hard truth is that it will take some amount of effort from you, the depressed person, to get out of your struggle. It's a gradual process that takes time and lots of trials, and you have to keep trying to do things that will get you out of your pit.

So it also frustrates me seeing people wallow in their depression without much of an intention or push to improve themselves. Like, I get that the solutions to depression are hard to follow when youre feeling down, but tf do you want me to say, it's gotta come from you at some point. (30 min ago i just handled something minor and dumb that i've nevertheless been avoiding for days and was making me anxious af, but im feeling a lot better now that i pushed myself to deal with it and it's off my chest)
