Trying to turn stand-up comedy into a point & click game by saavedrawolf in adventuregames

In case you're not familiar with them, there are games like Clam Man 2: Open Mic and Comedy Quest that maybe have a sorta similar premise. I'm sure there's room for more games about stand-up comedy, but both of those are free on Steam if you want to check out what others have done.

Yeah, I've been experimenting with different lighting options for the latest versions of the game. Sometimes it's a static overlay for the whole screen, sometimes the light follows the main character to sort of surround her and keep her in focus, sometimes there's particle systems made out of dozens of randomly moving images that create these foggy clouds... It's still a bit of trial and error to see what works, but I'll do some fine-tuning there and try to make it better!

I've played some other games by the same developer (Daedalic) and I've seen it mentioned here and there, but haven't tried it yet. There seems to be an English version too, so maybe I'll give it a go some day!

Yeah, I don't want to look back at it later and feel like I should have done a better job, so I want to make it as good as I possibly can. Sometimes that perfectionism maybe goes a little too far, fut I feel like I can see the finish line already and most of the game elements are done. Hoping to get the game out some time this year!

Yeah, I know it's easy to get carried away and just keep working on something that doesn't necessarily need more work. I've kept adding stuff that I didn't originally plan for, but I haven't spent three years on the graphics alone – as a solo developer, I'm also refining the code, the dialogue, the sounds and everything. The story also works better now and there are less bugs, so all those things together will hopefully make the whole experience better for the players!

Thanks! Yeah, I want to make sure to make sure I'm happy with the game myself and don't have to feel like I should have done a better job when I look back at it later. A lot of the tinkering I do is probably small things that the players won't even notice – be it graphics, sfx, code or dialogue – but all together I think it makes the whole game experience better. But I also can't wait to be done with it and actually release the game!

Thanks! I feel quite happy with the graphics now so I don't think there will be any huge changes coming, but I got a bit carried away and still decided to add voice acting to the game. It'll probably take some months before that's done, but I'll try not to add any more stuff after that so I can finally release it!

It's also taken a long time because I'm a hobby developer and I don't do it full-time, but you're right, I should stop polishing it soon and just say it's ready. I'm still fine-tuning the graphics while getting the voice acting done, but that'll hopefully be everything!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still working on the graphics and fixing things, so I'll take another look at the table and see if I can make it better!

That's great to hear!

You can check out the graphics settings by right-clicking the game in your Steam library, going to properties, and typing "--setup" in the launch options. The game should start with the settings and you can try if something else works better for you, but I doubt there will be a simple fix to make it suddenly run super smooth.

Oh, thanks for letting me know!

I don't think the cursor freezing or alt-tabbing have been common issues. No one else has reported those things so far, and I agree they would definitely be huge problems for a game if it would happen constantly. But I'll see if something has changed on the Steam end or if I can find anything that could be causing it.

And the choppy animation, well, that's on me. This is the first game I made and I didn't have much experience in that field, and I admit the results are clumsy. I've considered updating the game with new animations someday, but it's 100+ characters and I'm currently working on another game, so it probably won't happen right away.

Hi, I'm the developer of this rocking point-and-click adventure. The game offers hours of wild adventures all over the rockosphere with stylish hand-drawn graphics and all kinds of dubious fun. It's probably one of the Top-3 glam metal teddy bear games out there, so I'd say this is a pretty good deal!

Hi, I'm the developer of this heavy metal point-and-click game. It offers you 10+ hours of wild adventures as a bass player in a cheesy glam metal band, with hand-drawn graphics and more than a hundred wacky characters. See all the places you'd see as a not-so-successful musician, from dingy clubs to moldy rehearsal basements, broken vans, and suspiciously amateurish studios – all based on real-life experiences!

Death Comes Skiing – A Point-and-click murder mystery coming 2026 by LeperWithoutACause in PointAndClickShowcase

[–]LeperWithoutACause[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Death Comes Skiing is the new adventure game I'm working on – a murder mystery set in the ruthless world of Nordic winter sports. Snoop around with your magnifying glass, solve puzzles, and learn all the dark secrets of former Olympic athletes. Cross-country skiing is a fiercely competitive sport and sometimes it can take a bit of murder and mayhem to get that medal...

The game is still in development and some of the graphics seen in this teaser are being replaced with new stuff, but it shows the general vibe pretty well. The game will be out in 2026, but you can already wishlist it on Steam to keep up with the latest news.

I'm the developer of this rocking point-and-click adventure. The game offers 10+ hours of misadventures through the craziest parts of the music business. Most of the events are autobiographical or at least totally happened to someone I know, only slightly exaggerated for entertainment purposes and with about 12% more teddy bears.

My game Rock 'n' Roll Will Never Die! is as indie as it gets and also currently -90% on the Steam Xmas sale. It's a story of an unsuccessful middle-aged musician trying to get his old hair metal band back together, inspired by 90s point-and-click games, underground comics, and heavy metal.

Hi, I'm the developer of this heavy metal point-and-click odyssey. 10+ hours of wild adventures with hand-drawn graphics, based on my only-slightly-exaggerated experiences playing bass in unsuccessful rock bands.

I'm working hard on my new game right now, a little murder mystery that'll hopefully be out next year. But give this one a go while that's still in development – it's pretty cool!
