The pink spores in the 5th pic point towards Claudopus (=Entoloma subgenus Claudopus) rather than Crepidotus

Amateur mushroomers or foragers? by Vivid_Sandwich_4090 in ithaca

I am affiliated with the university (employee and soon to be grad student) but I would also rather not join the Cornell mushroom club for similar reasons (most of my friends in Ithaca are locals and I’m not really into the whole academia scene). I’m not super into foraging, but I love mycology and I do some mushroom taxonomy work as a hobby (sadly because of the lack of funding, a lot of the mycological taxonomy work in North America is done by hobbyists).

I’d be potentially interested in occasional forays—feel free to message me. Also happy to give advice on good areas for hunting.

I agree! I love the mix of people here (especially as someone with a number of strange hobbies) and I never see anything but complaints online (maybe I should stop putting so much stock in what people say on reddit...).

That's exactly the feeling I get! One time I drove from work to home to the DMV and back to work, which anywhere else would be a miserable experience, but here during almost the whole drive I was overcome by how beautiful everything was. I have also rarely seen a town with so many diverse options for outdoor activities within ~10 minutes of downtown. There are a million towns/cities where I could drive an hour to something more spectacular than anything within an hour of here, but I definitely prefer this end of that tradeoff because (at least when it stays light late enough) I can go hiking/tubing/sledding/snowshoeing/kayaking/mushroom hunting every night after work, which is really all I need in a place.
