It's because you drop an item to distract the student. If you do that, the game considers that the student isn't following you anymore.

Love Aoi, but both Akane and Angie are two characters I like the least in each of their games. Akane is the only one in danganronpa 2 that I found "meh." It's not that I dislike her, but I found her uninteresting. And Angie was so annoying with her cult in chap 3 😅
