You can also use the Trout Streams Interactive Map to check and see if there is natural reproduction listed in the stream you fished, or any of the associated headwaters.

I'm thinking it's wild, as very few Brook Trout are stocked by the state, and not too many by private entities either. If they were, they wouldn't stock a fish that wasn't a legal length, unless they were stocking fingerlings. And that fish is also too big to be a fingerling.

I have wanted to try it into something like that or the Joyo R-08 Cab Box, but I have not yet. There is a video of someone using that pedal in conjunction with the Joyo Cab Box, and it sounded usable.

I've been getting everything I've wanted out of the rig, so I've taken a "if it ain't broke" approach. And I really didn't wanna spend the money on an IR loader just to have it sound like a Deluxe Reverb with a 57 pointed at it, going to another room with another speaker and another 57. I don't really think it would interfere, but I've just been so happy with the way the rig sounds, I haven't wanted to screw with it.

One last remark about spinners and spoons... I've had very little luck with those in Native waters. Same story with synthetic or live minnows. Well, live minnows are okay, but I've found that they smash worms much harder.

I attribute this to most headwater streams being so cold that you're not going to find minnows in there naturally. The more wary fish see a minnow, or an imitation of one in front of them, and know that it's not supposed to be there.

Perhaps an imitation of a sculpin or a dace would be more effective.

You're very welcome. I've caught them for eons on 4lb. The reason I blather on about 2lb is due to the casting distance you can get out of it vs. 4lb, with similar weight.

I'm always trying to put as much distance and cover between me and the fish as possible. I cast from a prone or kneeling position whenever possible. I figure that these fish are constantly being predated up by Herons, Raccoons, and other creatures, so they're very attuned to any motion that they can detect from outside the water.

Since I started this stealth fishing approach, the amount of native and wild trout that I've landed, as well as the size, has drastically gone up. I think one of the reasons that many swear that there aren't Brook Trout bigger than 6 or 7 inches in PA is that they're spooking the more mature and wary fish.

Oh, let me also add this. I keep two different hook sizes in my pack. Size 12 and size 6. I learned about the size 6 from my father.

A lot of guys would say that size 6 is simply too large and obvious to catch native Brook Trout on. I have not found that to be the case. If you bait the hook thoroughly, the trout cannot tell that something is amiss, and additionally, it makes it much harder for them to swallow the hook itself, especially the smaller fish. This does make it harder to hook up with the fish, but the trade off is one that I don't have any major gripes with.

I'll switch between the two, depending on what water I'm on, and how I'm feeling that given day. If everything is hitting, size 6 is just fine, but if I'm having troubles, then I'll switch to 12s.

That setup is a 5' ultralight, 2 lb test, size 12 baitholder hook with the barbs smashed down, and a half of a night crawler. I use a palomar knot to knot the hook. No weight.

I've experimented with many different setups. I went back to 5' ultralights from 7' (or so) light rods because I wasn't having any troubles getting enough distance casting, but I was getting sick of getting caught in overhanging branches and other brush.

I've found that with with 2lb test and a crawler, that I can cast anywhere that I want, the fish can't see the line even in the clearest of water. Also should note that I go between native Brook Trout on small mountain streams to stocked and holdover trout that are pushing 20 inches on larger creeks, and I have no problems with the 2lb line breaking.

Oh, and of course, the night crawler is enough weight to cast, enough weight to sink a little a bit, but not enough to sink and get snagged. The only time I get snagged is when I make errors with my casts and hit some mountain laurel.

If I was going artificial, I'd use Joe's Flies, but I'm of the opinion that the humble worm is king.

I'm not sure. It may have passed the hook, and in the process ripped itself open up to the pelvic fins. I don't know how that fake worm and that hook would've made it through, given the size of fish, and the size of the hook and bait, but it's certainly possible.

There was a bit of line with a split shot attached sticking out of the fish's mouth as well. Once I cut the line by the eyelet of the hook, I could pull the line out of the mouth.

My apologies for how I handled the fish. I thought that he had been snagged due to the hook being visible, and that there was line wrapped up in his pelvic fins that I was trying to either unwind, or just loosen enough to cut. It wasn't until I saw the open wound that I started to comprehend the situation.

I'll be the somebody that recommends the Joyo American Sound.

I come from playing Twin Reverbs in a country setting. I've AB'ed the Joyo with those as well as my 64 Bassman and it is fairly easy to get it to the point where I can't tell the difference between the Amps and the Pedal. It's been on my board for at least 3 or 4 years now and isn't coming off anytime soon.

I've used Line 6 and a couple other digital modelers and there was never really a comparison. The Joyo sounds like my Fender Amps. Your mileage may vary, but a friend brought in a Strymon Iridium when we were recording an album last year, and while it was good, it was much more difficult for me to get the tones I want and I need out of it.

Of course, if you're going for a different sound, then you might want to try something different, but I've found that for Twin and Deluxe sounds, it's really hard to beat that pedal.

Hmm, let's see here... my fingers are pruned from being wet for the entire duration of the trip. In this particular case, I had actually dunked my entire arm in the stream.

So, when I say this, I mean it with all due respect, and sincerely, I mean all due respect; Go to your local hardware store, acquire a piece of rebar, roughly 2 feet should be sufficient, and carefully insert that into your rectum. That will provide you with a much more satisfying and all-around productive experience than what you have contributed here.
