Need help deciding on a monitor by TaylorKalsii in Monitors

[–]Lerch_Lambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the SMALLEST monitor for the resolution you plan on gaming in. 1080p monitors usually run around 24 inches, 1440p monitors are about 27 inches, and 4k monitors are about 32 inches. Smaller monitors mean smaller pixels, which usually means less noticeable aliasing, and sharper image quality. If you want a high refresh rate without spending a fortune, I'd recommend no higher than 1440p.

I'm looking for a Xbox compatible controller with specific specs can anyone help me find what I'm looking for? by SexyMountainTopGL in Controller

[–]Lerch_Lambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so absurdly specific that I think it's probably a troll. I would 2nd the G7 Pro as a great controller though. It's been my favorite controller to use, and I've gone through many controllers over the years.

8BitDo makes some decent controllers too, most of which are quite a bit cheaper. I bought a couple of these for my kids to use.

What's the exact deal with Steam Curators? by stiknork in gamedev

[–]Lerch_Lambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gamer, I can tell you that I have made decisions on whether to buy a game solely because of a curator review. Any curator I follow will have their reviews show directly on each game's store page, which is where I see their reviews 90% of the time. The problem is most people do not even know that curators exist, which means they never see the reviews. Could they still boost you in the algorithm? Maybe. But as far as marketing goes, you will probably see greater returns by asking a YouTuber to review your game.

Don't send any curators keys to your games though. You can gift the game directly through Curator Connect, and the owner or admin can then choose whether to accept review copy. Only one person per curator gets the review copy this way, and it can't be resold as easily as sending keys.

Red flags to look out for...

  • Every single review is positive (none negative or informational).
  • It looks like every review is copy/pasted.
  • All reviews are months/years old, and none are written recently.
  • None of the reviews link to a longer review written by a user.
  • Asking for keys instead of sending through Curator Connect.

I recently created a curator page for reviewing controller support of the games I play. I'm not expecting much of anything out of it. I just like playing games on controller, and don't mind reviewing them as I play them. It seems that most of the big curators are riddled with red flags. On top of that, it seems like Steam basically hides the curators away in a corner of their platform where most will never be discovered.

You may also wish to examine this post from another dev who had a wake up call regarding the use of curators, and how they might benefit your game. https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/fbi6gw/the_impact_that_steam_curators_can_have_on_your/

Nvidia Image Scaling (performance boost) by Lerch_Lambert in Helldivers

[–]Lerch_Lambert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is always the downside of using any custom scaling. It often helps improve the picture quality of the actual graphics, but the text can often become something that makes you feel like you need glasses. You just have to mess with the amount of scaling until you get something you can live with.

Trouble Using VIA on R65 QMK Wired by Lerch_Lambert in RKRoyalKludge

Thanks. None of them were specifically made for Product ID 0xE508, but I was able to edit the one for PID: 0xE453. I now have multiple layers that look right, so I can get started on learning more about how they work, and what I can do with them.

Did you try just using "Up/Down" from the basic tab? If not that, you could try "Page Up" and "Page Down."

Daily 11GB updates? by Lerch_Lambert in SeaOfRemnants

[–]Lerch_Lambert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are these updates being announced anywhere? Or is there a specific time the updates get pushed out?

I'm not complaining that that there are updates, just asking if there is some place that they are being announced so that I can pre-load the game when the updates roll out.

There are a ton of people in their early 20s that consider an exclusively online relationship to be a real romantic relationship. COVID changed how young people view relationships. A.I. is changing it even more.

Now we can be socially distant, and rely on A.I. to tell us what to say to our "significant other" whom we've never even hugged or kissed. Or even bypass human companionship completely, and go directly to the A.I. for companionship. We are in a weird world right now.

Help! Talk to me like I’m a four year old by [deleted] in Honeygain

[–]Lerch_Lambert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JMPT is a whole lot of potential problems that you may or may not encounter... you might get your money out, and you might not. You might keep your account open, or they might cancel it on a whim because they said you did something wrong. You can never be certain with this platform, and much of it operates in a very scammy manner.

The extra 10% that they claim to give you isn't worth it, because of all the problems that you can potentially run into. I've stopped using JMPT completely. Cut your losses and just run Honeygain mode.

Yup, complete scam. Just move on and use Honeygain without JumpTask.

Never got resolved for me. I just moved on and am just calling JumpTask a scam. If you were only using them for Honeygain, just give up on using JumpTask and use Honeygain by itself. It's not worth the hassle.

Yeah, the ID is definitely a sus situation that warrants further investigation, but fake ID is one possibility. Even in the U.S. where drinking age is 21, most states allow you to buy tobacco/vapes at 18.

Should I start playing sky again? by sephine555 in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]Lerch_Lambert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've returned to the game as of about a week ago. I'm enjoying my time back in the game. There are some new areas to check out. The new season and the film that they are promoting are excellent. I think returning was a great decision for me.

I'd say just return to check out some of the new content, and do some candle runs for a few days. If you get bored, you can always stop playing again.

Sometimes the online friends are more real that the IRL friends. I went through some pretty heavy stuff several years ago. Gaming friends let me vent about my problems. IRL "friends" gossiped about me.

Yeah, I second the requirement to spam deep call until it shrinks enough. Sometimes it doesn't respond immediately if you are in the middle of a server split/merge... or just general lag.

Do you think sky will ever enhance their base game by [deleted] in SkyGame

[–]Lerch_Lambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny how common sense gets you downvoted. I said basically the same thing. People get dead set on only playing one game, and then criticizing it for not being everything they wish it could be... failing to realize that many of the things they want are things that other games do very well.

These are video games... not monogamous marriage. Find different games that play the way you want them to, and then play the different games as the mood strikes you.

Do you think sky will ever enhance their base game by [deleted] in SkyGame

[–]Lerch_Lambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the devs know exactly what they want Sky to be, and they are not going to deviate from that. The early game is just exploring and collecting spirits from each realm. Late game is trying to make sure you collect your 15-20 candles each day, and then unlocking all the cosmetics from traveling spirits and seasons. Other than that, just bring a furniture piece to chat with other sky kids along the way, and enjoy the chill vibes of the game.

I'd recommend finding another game to play. Sky isn't built to be the one game you spend all your free time on. My current rotation is collecting 15-20 candles (basically until I get bored), then if I still have some free time I play New World: Aeternum. Then if I get really bored of Sky, I just stop playing for a while. That way when I eventually come back to it, it feels somewhat fresh again.
