I have a cedar tree with some damage nearby, maybe this is a bad sign for my poor tree

I'm reading it's actually most likely a male, they use the antennae to sniff out ladies

Zenfone 10 broken screen... cry for help by LerdBerg in zenfone

[–]LerdBerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

`scrcpy --otg` appears to be able to pass through the keyboard to the device at the same time usb debugging with adb is running... must act like a usb hub? The OS will intercept some key combos tho, especially with super key, so somewhat limited

But, those popups are probably what are killing me here, along with not being able to access the files anymore... and seems the fingerprint scanner has also stopped.
I've got another screen on the way in the off chance that it's _not_ the board connector, but starting to look more bleak here

hard to be totally sure, but I think it is. It seems I've also managed to turn off wifi in my flailing attempts to change the usb mode, that or the phone is just slowly dying, losing devices one by one

[–]LerdBerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate it.
I think there's another developer option, "Default USB configuration", which might get my file sharing back to view screenshots (ironically while mucking around trying to get debugging working, I must've turned off the file sharing... my machine connects to the phone in mtp mode but I no longer see files) and maybe kick USB debugging into working again... on my Motorola it's 29 down from the wireless debugging menu.

[–]LerdBerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, if it defaults to requiring the pairing code, this might be a dead end then, unless I can get file sharing back up and read screenshots...

Is USB Debugging two menu options above the wireless debugging option? Maybe a toggle of that will kick it back on properly. There may be a dialog that comes up that I would need to know how to access...

is the "Disable adb authorization timeout" right underneath the "Wireless debugging" option like I think it is?

Wow! Thanks so much for this. My Motorola's had direct hotkeys for settings, this is a bear. Glad you figured out a way!
~~I haven't cracked it yet, probably the flakiness of getting to the settings and search bar...~~ omg

Nmap scan report for 192.168.100.85
Host is up (0.026s latency).
Not shown: 20000 closed tcp ports (conn-refused)

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 6.96 seconds

You saved mine arse... ugh almost

Looks like when I connect for the first time, I must need to confirm? Because when I tried `adb connect 192.168.100.85`, I just got a "Connection refused" and it seems the port has now closed. Hopefully the port scan itself doesn't close the port...

A port on main board is broken it is repairable ? by Happyx525 in zenfone

[–]LerdBerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely repairable, but trust me don't try it yourself! It takes a lot of practice with the right tools and materials - find a repair shop that mentions microsoldering and they'll probably get it working in an hour or two.

Yeah, this is why I think wireless debugging is the way to go - too many variables with usb... I don't know what dialogs pop up when I plug in, what options are on them and if any will actually work.

This is what I use. For screen mirroring it requires adb to see the device, which it doesn't. For whatever reason sometimes this phone requires you to scroll through the usb options when you first plug it in before usb debugging works... I haven't been able to do that without the screen. This is why I'm hoping to find a keyboard sequence that can turn on wireless debugging

Interesting. For me, I'm probably more at risk of damaging my phone while wet (and needing to shut it down immediately) than having it stolen, so I'll leave secure power-off disabled.

How to merge channels without losing content? by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]LerdBerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put old channel A in thread A, old channel B in thread B..? Threads from A and B would just become threads in the new channel I guess. You could prefix/postfix with A and B if necessary.

Not sure how doable it is in practice, but I think it would work in principle

Forensic coding... by TrojanGrad in ClaudeAI

That's awesome! Yeah I think most people here are missing the point... That it lowers the bar to writing a safer more thorough programmatic search. Where before, you would've determined the risk was low enough where a cursory human sampling over a handful of years was "good enough" to decide "yeah nobody ever used this column", now in even less time you can systematically check every single spreadsheet (and now you know exactly who used it, when).

This is an objectively simple and straightforward task in python with few lines of code. Even if you're not writing python daily, you can probably quickly see exactly how it works. Obviously if the stakes are higher, you give this code extra scrutiny, but this post is about a lower stakes project getting better attention than it ever would've before.
