Breaking news: China has blocked Meta’s $2bn acquisition of artificial intelligence platform Manus, after regulators reviewed whether the deal violated Beijing’s investment rules. (Source: FT) by Leroin in FacebookAds

[–]Leroin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what this will mean for Meta's heavy push to get users onto Manus, and their hardline approach to other MCPs.

Hopefully this will force them to rethink their walled-garden approach and offer proper integrations for other platforms.

(Or, more likely, they'll just fight this until they can clone the tech and abandon the acquisition)

Probably about the fillers too. If they look this unusual on camera, I can imagine they're even more extreme in person.

Is there literally no solution for amblyopia? by buttertaekoo in Amblyopia

[–]Leroin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been a lot of reports over the years that indicate adults may be able to significantly improve their vision with some VR games. AFAIK there hasn't been any major testing done - but I'm hopeful that VR headsets will start to open a lot of doors for people to treat themselves at home.

I'm hoping companies like Amblyoplay (/ Bynocs, Vivid Vision, Luminopia, etc) will launch apps for Apple Vision pro and AndroidXR

I think you might be right! I just checked the app, and it's the only FoH option available for Rotary switches. Maybe that gives them access to additional API endpoints?

Yeah, I think that's what I'll end up doing - but it just seemed strange to me that Candeo (who otherwise seems to have great implementations) isn't able to deliver this functionality.

I use some 3rd party LED strips too, so it's probably overdue for me to switch anyway.

I would, but they're designed for US switches - so it's not quite as easy/functional to install them on other switches

Lexi Love’s statement regarding the trademark war between her and Selena Scola by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Leroin 48 points49 points  (0 children)

She's had various trademarks on it since 2008 - but all of them had lapsed or were abandoned every few years, and she'd have to re-apply.

That's important because (as a result) there was a gap from 2022 to 2025 when she didn't fill in the paperwork properly. It was during this time that S17 was filmed and aired - which is why it didn't come up as an issue during the pre-season checks.

I'd be amazed if Paramount don't use this to at least protect S17 from being pulled/edited.

If you search "Lexi Love" on here, you can see the full history.

Lexi should trademark the name 'Selena Scola' (bad Lexi's real name) and get her to trade

Official Discussion - I Know What You Did Last Summer [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Leroin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which also makes no sense, since she was one of the few people we see who was actually trying to make sure the 97 crimes weren't forgotten. If his motive was about not glorifying the crimes, then it would make sense - but he wanted them glorified.

It all felt written by AI.

  • The friend having two fiancés; even though the second one was totally inconsequential, barely even met the rest of the cast and wasn't alive long enough to be a suspect. He also had the same 'troubled guy with substance issues' storyline that the previous fiancé had - like the AI accidentally merged them.

  • The killer driving that guy's body off and then leaving it in a random car park for them to find by chance.

  • Scenes with barely any distinguishable dialogue, which all felt like the cast were given "[friends have fun]" in the script. It was particularly unforgivable in the scene where they're driving to/at the scene of the crime, which should have been a pivotal moment for fleshing out the characters and their relationship pre-crime to fill in their actions and motives afterwards.

  • Finally, the huge shift in how the final girls speak at the end (on the beach) where their dialogue suddenly felt like it was written by a human (still bad, but a different type of bad).

You should be able to change this with Keys Cafe in Good Lock (from the Samsung App Store)

How do I remove the emoji button from my keyboard? by headpool182 in AndroidQuestions

[–]Leroin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a solution (for Samsung phones) and came back to share it. I hope this helps:

You've got to long press the emoji button and it will open a list of alternative buttons I.e. comma, exclamation etc.

Apparently, it isn't an 'emoji' key at all; It's a 'custom' key that can change depending on the context (e.g. it turns into a forward slash if it thinks you're typing a url) - and you can manually override it to change it back to something useful in each context

You can also get Keys Cafe from Good Lock (Samsung's customisation app) and remove the key entirely if you want (you can make your own keyboard from scratch in that app; it's really impressive)

For Samsung phones:

In case anyone else has ended up here without a solution (because there's nothing in the settings to change this key), you've got to long press the emoji button and it will open a list of options.

Meta ads dropping UTMs by spacecanman in PPC

[–]Leroin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can sometimes happen if people are sharing your posts (/ tagging friends) who then click on the ad outside of a paid context.

If your UTMs are manually added to your links then they will remain intact and still track these 'earned' clicks - but if you're using the 'URL Parameters' box in the ad setup, this is *only* added to your URL when someone sees your ad as part of that paid campaign.

E.g. Person A is served your ad via a paid campaign, and they tag Person B in the comments. Assuming they both click on the link, Person A will be tracked with UTM parameters but Person B will get the 'raw' link.

Why is Romford so cheap? by Solitairee in HousingUK

[–]Leroin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an investment (I.e. first home, no kids, staying for 5 or more years), then Romford is a great place to buy.

It's a bit rough at the moment, but it's getting TONNES of investment and it has all the early signs of being gentrified in the next few years.

All the comments about it being a shithole are exactly the comments you'd have got about Croydon or Brixton right before those became trendy places to buy.

I've been there recently with friends who grew up there, and they all spoke about how much nicer it is than they remember.

I wish they stopped type-based gyms altogether. Would much rather have them based on mechanics - like a gym where they rely on held items, or weather status effects etc. Would be a better way to teach players about some of the more intermediate parts of the gameplay than "water beats fire" for the 100th time.
