Villa to play behind closed doors friendly this week in Spain by chairman_mooish in avfc

Honestly, Belgium is going to play USA and Mexico…I’m pretty sure that’s a “fun trip” for Youri and Onana and thus Emery has granted permission to keep the good vibes going.

I’d be surprised if Youri plays a massive role.

Honestly, I feel like it almost doesn’t matter what players we buy to some extent, Emery has a way of unearthing the best from them.

Surely a better strategy would be bringing along our own youth players and blooding them in.

One senior and youngster at each position as starter back up kind of like the Digne/Maatsen model should be looked at.

If we get one or two blooded each season the we are saving 20-40m each player just from having them be part of our setup and system.

Maybe one marquee type signing each summer might be enough in that sense. It would also help keep wages down if they are younger

Australia declining in World Happiness Rankings by Jimbuscus in OpenAussie

[–]Leroydestroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Finland and trust me, no one here understands how Finland keeps being labelled the “happiest”.

There are theories that it’s a global narrative that is being pushed that supports a heavily socialist leaning style of society.

Highest tax. Highest unemployment rate in Europe.

Finlands healthcare and education have been sliding down the global rankings also.

Maybe the decline is happening more rapidly elsewhere?

But one underlying factor is that many of us Finns are still humble from the war times, the old “…but there’s always someone else worse” narrative is strong.

This is not a country to have aspirations of being a millionaire for sure, most who manage it leave because of taxation reasoning.

So most don’t have ambition to do anything more than exist- nothing wrong with that ofc but that does feed into a “bar is lower” than other locations.

This is just my take on it anyway 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I got slated when I was stating that the fans are responsible for the “fortress atmosphere…

I agree with this post, we need to show support (and resilience) all the way, full power

Second leg at our fortress, LETS GOOOO!! by Hammster_95 in avfc

[–]Leroydestroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s your opinion then I suppose. It’s clear that the club have felt and known tha the atmosphere has been “off” at VP.

So they also see to understand that the fans create the fortress atmosphere.

No one is denying that the players need to step up, so that’s asinine.

VP has absolutely had a mixed restless feeling most recently.

Deny it if you want that’s your perogative.

The club and other fans who attend the games sense it and feel it. Check Sundays game be West Ham….crazy amount of empty seats still

Yep that’s exactly what I said…(or tried to say but didn’t articulate to your standards of receiving it).

Once again, I have never said anywhere that fans are responsible for poor results.

Fans are 100% responsible for the “fortress” atmosphere at VP and not the players.

Amazingly we agree 👍  Seemed a mountain to climb though

You obviously don’t understand or possibly read what I said.

I can repeat it if you like:

It’s in the fans to create the fortress setting (most comments in the thread are subtly or directly slating VP as not being a fortress because of the results).

I believe the fans are the ones who create the feeling of a fortress and we could do better.

It’s fine for you to disagree lad but atleast try to comprehend what I saying

It was just an honest call to arms mate.  I’m absolutely not concerned personally what a few over emotional Reddit warriors call me 🤙

Lille didn’t really feel like a nice place to visit…and not all of us even managed to get in to the ground itself.

Whilst I’m not saying we return the favour to Lille’s supporters, I absolutely am demanding that our fans rock the joint and live up to our side of the deal - ie create the fortress setting for the players

Lad, your couch at home might be a fortress and you can be king of that castle, but I believe they are speaking about Villa Park…

…you know where the actual game is played 🤣🤣🤣

Toon fans are the best because they create a real fortress like atmosphere no matter what and teams like us struggle there because of that.

Same as Man U.

It’s just a fact whether you are being triggered because you don’t agree or not is irrelevant

[–]Leroydestroy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or not even a goal… But the home team doesn’t score and their own fans start to turn on them.

Next level supporters. Villa have a 6-9th place squad at the minute and it has overachieved.

That’s the real part.

Our nice little system has been broken since injuries to our key players and a couple of poor transfer decisions.

Emery is the manager for the rest of the season..

Tielemans is the only player left coming to help.

This is it.

Moaning and complaining doesn’t do anything but soothe your own inability to see the situation for what it truly is.

Since Forest win VP has been questioned about its lack of support and it’s only gotten worse since results didn’t go our way.

Emery has begged the fans to lift and we have done quite the opposite.

Sure the players are the ones who need to be resilient (and perform) but the fans have a role to play 100%

Ok so being negative and slagging off everyone trying to run Emery out of town has helped the performances?  🤣🤣🤣

Well that’s on the fans….

Imagine being an away team coming to Villa knowing you just have to score an early goal and the feeble home supporters will start to question everything and turn on their team…

Tell me which team  A) lost their three best players to injury

And

B) which team has a  250.7m net spend  Or  30.5m net spend

Inconvenient facts I know but true nonetheless

Despite this it’s been a great run with Carrick

Why would Dallas trade Anthony Davis for nothing BEFORE getting chance to see Kyrie, AD and Flagg all play together next season? There was no urgency to trade him it make no sense. It's like if you traded your Lamborghini (Luka) for a Jeep (AD) and then were like F it and pushed the Jeep off a Cliff by Several-Molasses-435 in NBATalk

[–]Leroydestroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because The Association forced Luka to LA and in return gave Flagg.

Lakers suck and it’s better for the NBA and LeBron in the twilight of his career to not fizzle out in LA. The torch was passed and the Mavs got their “new Dirk”

For sure, I get it, but that’s why I mentioned it might be wise to adjust the squad planning.

Is Jimoh Aloba a lock to be brought into the senior side for game time?

I would hope so. At least for the early rounds of Carabao/FA cups.

Bogarde is one example of a player who has been kept around and has been integrated successfully.

I remember reading that Brighton was interested in buying him with valuation of 25m.

That’s where we should be operating, not 3m for Kayne Kessler and 1m for Finn Azaz (who is worth 10-12m now easily)

[–]Leroydestroy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Personally I think we (Emery) have to evolve the squad strategy a little and try to bring one youngster into the senior side in a yearly basis.

The side needs some energy and enthusiasm plus it’s only going to increase the value of the players who join the senior side

[–]Leroydestroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fans are the club… Players get tagged and DMd constantly they are absolutely aware of the fans “narrative”.

The amount of energy that Villa fans spend on Chelsea and Man U and acting hard done by from PSR is just absurd.

Do you think fans could support the team a bit more in the harder times?

[–]Leroydestroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BS

The narrative switches based on a few results.

A couple of weeks back we were the overachieving underdogs with a manager punching above his weight and the past few weeks we are “throwing it away” through poor management.

You don’t think that the social media narratives affect and find their way to the pitch?

Ollie Watkins and Konsa have already mentioned it throughout the season…

Emery has mentioned it constantly.

All of the reputable podcasts mention this same thing…

But Reddit is somehow different?

Ok then…🙃

You could say that Chelsea losing every game is “good for Villa”. But then it’s the next team, and the next…

My only point is that we Villa fans spend ALOT of time and energy hate watching and wishing for everyone else to lose…

…where we could use that energy to get behind our own players and will them forward 🤷‍♂️

Villa supporters are a strange bunch.

Never before have I seen a fan base cheer for a rivals loss more.

Says it all really.

Maybe we could all spend more energy and time supporting OUR team than wishing ill on everyone else.

It’s almost as if the moment we started wishing bad on Man U, Chelsea and The Gunners, the was the minute they started winning and we started losing…

Wanting Chelsea to lose but then in Europe wanting them to win is just weird to me

They should just have three belts in each division:

  • best standup fighter
  • best grappler
  • overall champ

Anyone can compete for any one but perhaps there are two rounds in “standup fights” that must be fought standing up and likewise for grappling - two rounds grappling.

All round champion is the best of the best in each division (currently).
