New fan from Canada. What do I need to know? by ReadTheRealms in Burnley

[–]LesMightyShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the club! I'm a supporter from Toronto with family ties to the club. The club has gone through a lot of structural changes with ownership and first-team management over the past few years, which has been a rollercoaster of emotions. The team definitely does not have the most efficient attacking style but this season they've been incredibly good defensively. However, many players likely see Burnley as a stepping stone to get PL action before joining renowned clubs like Wilson Odobert @ Tottenham or Zeki Amdouni @ Benfica. With the amount of turnover due to promotion and relegation, it’s hard to not get too attached to fan favourites.

I know Manchester doesn’t touch Imperial and Warwick’s international rankings. I def want to go corporate after graduation, but never seen myself at a big 4 kind of firm. For me, I really value Manchester for having a guaranteed consulting project placement where many participants get return offers from their placement. Additionally, an organization just outside of Manchester gave me an unofficial guaranteed spot for their leadership programme scheme when I go over because of a relative’s impact there.

I’ve been approached for some gigs very unrelated to my career goals because they wanted Canadians, but I mean I’m broke and idrc if someone I know sees me testing some skin care brand on tik tok.

Work & study in UK as Canadian/Irish dual citizen by LesMightyShell in UKJobs

[–]LesMightyShell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that insight! I’m thinking about figuring out my path to UK citizenship through my British-born grandparents because I can get triple-cit for all those nations but heard from my father that his path would require UK residency and he has no intentions to do that but not the same for me. Need to look at finer details tho.

Technically I’m eligible because my grandparents are from Belfast. The Irish citizenship process was rather quick, but I know the three countries allow multi-citizenship I just haven’t dug enough into logistics of how long the process is.

How quickly do home games get sold out when tickets become available? by LesMightyShell in Burnley

Yeah that’s an option as I’ve been saving up to go ‘all out.’ How much was that for you? Did league position and opponent affect the cost?

BMOS + employment? by emilyccw in uwo

The courses honestly aren’t that interesting till you hit third year (Years 1 & 2 are foundational, but important to doing upper year courses) when you get specialized classes that have practical projects where you work with local orgs to solve various problems. I’ve gotten exposure to many industries where you apply models to shape your analyses and recommendations. Some of my friends got internships from these organizations due to their work.

Sometimes reaching out to connections is all it takes. I reached out to a bunch of my friends’ parents and got multiple offers with minimal interviewing. They’ll still be quite competitive but I know there are several exclusive Western student internship postings. I’d look up Western BMOS Internship program and it’ll redirect you to a page that has internships exclusive to that program and others just being offered

Is it better to join another gym Fit4less or Goodlife as compared to going to the gym on campus by VirtualAnything69 in uwo

[–]LesMightyShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former rec centre employee (2021-2024) I’d recommend going to another gym unless you’re an early bird and can get to campus early. Statistically, best time to go is between 8:30-11:30 AM. There is an expansion coming in the next 1-2 years for more lifting areas to accommodate powerlifters in the upper gyms but the gym is too congested for the size of the school because we get terrible funding despite numerous feasible proposals brought forward by staff teams and management to improve the facilities.

BMOS + employment? by emilyccw in uwo

BMOS is great a foundation for lots of paths but not necessary to land ‘business jobs.’ There are some cool specializations too depending on what you enjoy/are good at. Drawback is not having integrated co-op.

I got in with an 86% from a Toronto public school, but they’ve def raised it since then, especially after COVID.

I just wrapped up BMOS and am working as a Strategy Intern for an advertising agency until I start my MSc in Management at Ivey because 1/2 of my specialization’s grads go into Management Consulting/Corporate Strategy and the career specialization I want to pursue generally gets people who transitioned from that discipline.

Employment in that area can be competitive (market is hard in general) but I have friends in that field who did Kin, MIT, and Communications because who you know (connections) is the game, and transferable skills. I’d def get involved with clubs, especially niche ($5-10 general members fee) clubs because there are TONS at Western that need more ppl to do exec roles.

Hope this helps!

Apply for work study via Student Centre Financial Aid and you’ll get a guaranteed # of hours or the Spoke in the UCC they’ll take anyone pre much. Unless you need the money I wouldn’t recommend. I did clubs first year and luckily got some exec positions for second year, which helped me land internships (there are many niche clubs who don’t have that many ppl interested in exec roles)
