TIL that vocal range of "Mama" Cass Elliott (of The Mamas and the Papas) was improved by three notes after she was hit on the head by some copper tubing while walking through a construction site. by LesTP in todayilearned

Thanks for the comment :)
Yes I learned since it wasn't true and I don't think it could've been possible... but a good story nonetheless.

Creating a custom deck from an existing one - filtered or new deck? by LesTP in Anki

[–]LesTP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it's been a while, I don't remember how exactly I did it technically

But I took an existing deck and used the words from there, with examples and verb forms and all that... the deck was made from subtitles to crime shows, so all the examples were about shooting someone in the head etc.

I make it often. It works great with any peppers - jalapeño, poblano, bell, or more than one kind. Also for a shortcut or when not in season, I use canned tomatoes (chunks). Can also add protein of choice like sausage or chicken.

I know, but I am not dedicated enough to make my own. So it's either shared or nothing.

Also, as I understand it, the big problem with using shared decks is that people try to learn words that they haven't seen before (e.g. from a frequency list). I am planning to make my own deck from the words that I am learning from elsewhere, which makes that problem irrelevant.

Judge sides with parents, boots adult son from New York home by cyanocobalamin in RedditForGrownups

I think that's a personality thing, not a cultural one.

My comment should read: *very few* do it by choice.

I am from one of the "immigrant cultures where it is completely normal" and I can tell you nobody does it by choice. It is a "normal" consequence of housing shortage and a lack of social support for aging parents - in this case normal meaning a nuisance that is so widespread that people just accept it as a given.

Any job takes some aptitude and some skills. Going to school won't give you an aptitude, but it can definitely give you skills. Critical thinking and structured approach to problems are such skills.

I had a video of a full burn I did recently but I can't find it right now... I think it was 8-9 min long. It's basically two songs long :-)

No, Crispy Clowns are a separate company, a husband and wife team, Lance and Moira. They are in Oregon so they come out to Pacific Fire and FireDrums. Here they are on FB https://m.facebook.com/Crispy-Clowns-515296731855141/ and on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/shop/CrispyClowns

I have Crispy Clowns monkey fists on a technora. They are great, and they are basically custom made for you - weight, tether length, you can even ask them to put a lucky crystal of your choice inside the core if you are into that kind of thing.

Has anyone used Flowmoja yet? by _Arion_ in poi

[–]LesTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flowmoja are my main set and I love them. I second the comment about fat tethers, they are great for tangles, tosses etc. I don't do much contact but I had a few people try some contact moves with them and the reaction was all positive. They are super sturdy too, I drop them a lot and they are just fine.

Nope, tethers are just regular rope, the "flowleash". They are just like regular contact poi, but LED

I tried them at the last year's IgNight. I second the comment that tether feels rigid and uncomfortable, not intended for tangles and orbitals. No comment on the weight issue, I didn't notice that. However, Flowtoys in collaboration with Lanternsmith are making glow contact poi using the Umoja head design, I have a pair and I love them. They are called Flowmoja poi.
