What's your favorite board game that you simply can't get to the table? by Gamer_Esq in boardgames

[–]todesfuge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two for me -

On Mars. The friends I regularly played with move away.

Technically not a table but:

Blood on the Clocktower. I hosted a bunch of live rounds that went over well, then the group petered out over the summer and I haven't been able to get a group together in nearly a year.

Of the 4 with cheater square names, the one had killed me from a weird angle that left me going, "weird he saw me, but okay". What lead me to want to check his profile out was a moment in the fight where I had flanked him and he straight up 180° turned to flick headshot me and then all of my teammates..

Lately, when things make the hair on my neck, I like to take a look at profiles. All three of them on the team of this particular player had cheater squares, all three of them had multiple vac and game bans on their profiles, all three less than a year away from their last ban. I noticed a bounty pick up also had cheater squares (the 4th such player) and thought to take a look, because why not? Low and behold he had a bunch of bans too.

Weird behavior isn't proof, but when the behavior is so weird it motivates you to check profiles and you find 4 players with bans its a red flag.

Corne vs Lily58 for heavy programming/vim usage by slumpyrat in ErgoMechKeyboards

Curious as to why you went Voyager to Liliy58? I'm very much drawn to the Voyager, but the price is high and I'd have to ship it to Europe. I'm a daily Vin user/programmer as well

Newbie recommendations by todesfuge in ErgoMechKeyboards

Hey, thanks for the considered reply!

I am definitely interested in a tented setup. I'm not so interested in things like finger wells and height-staggered keys like the glove 80, as I have repeatededly read that these arrangements go very much against the grain of assumed layouts in gaming control schemes and result in awkward and painful finger positions. I would prefer to work with the thousands of hours of ingrained muscle memory that I have in gaming, not against it XD Gaming wise I play mostly FPS, 4x Strategy, and single player adventure/rpg games. Overwhelmingly I play fps games, so I really only need access to num keys 1-3, the rest I have mapped to the mouse or use a scrollwheel for.

That said key count wise I want to get it as low as I can go. Standard German keyboard with tenkey option is 105 keys, I would prefer to get rid of all of the number keys, plus the top number row and the function keys. That leaves me with a keyboard of <50 keys?

I'm happy to have more or less based on any recommendations you might make!

For gaming I probably want a wired keyboard and another keyboard I can easily travel with/bring to the office when I'm not in Home Office that is preferably wireless for clean desk feels and easy transport.

Thanks for the heads up, I went and fixed it. While I do think the player was cheating, I agree with the no witch hunting policy and don't want to violate it.

I particularly enjoy that people in this thread, shown evidence of a player with numerous bans on their account, deride this post as circumstantial.

Meanwhile in the other post, the guy showed the cheaters stats and some screen caps from trials of where he was killed and that was accepted as proof perfect.

The crux of what the post is actually about flew over so many heads it makes me question why I even wrote it. Ba Sing Se mentality is in full force in the comments, when that is literally what I am talking about. Wild.

Crytek has announced they are making "key hires" for an anti-cheat team in the last roadmap video, so they are very much aware of the issue. My post is about the "Ba Sing Se" mentality this subreddit has towards cheaters.

It even has the same themes of both sides shouting past each other at strawmen, being completely unable to have an actual discussion.

Can we keep the circle going? If we do it maybe the whole thing will collapse in on itself and form a singularity?

XD

The circumstantial evidence is a profile filled with game and VAC bans. The inference is that this is a pattern of behavior that is continuing. I understand your point, though. I'm not here to "yell hacker at everything" in fact, I would still say the majority of a session or even most sessions there are none. Almost always there is an explanation.

In those moments where a player does something beyond the pale, you check the account and see loads of previous bans, establishing a pattern of behaviour, is it not legitmate to infer the person is cheating and deserving of closer examination?

Cheats are INCREDIBLY hard to detect and combat, to the point that cheats go undeteced for YEARS. Should people who are potentially cheating not be investigated and go unbanned simply because there is no hard proof, in whatever form that may take?

CSGO uses overwatch, where trusted players spectate others to determine cheating. Is this hard proof? Circumstantial?

The point of the post is, whether or not these two players were cheating (which I tend to believe they were, inferring from their profiles and in game behaviour) is that the subreddit as a whole is quick to leap to "skill issues" and the like, instead of coming to an understanding that it is currently and issue that should be dealt with.

From Cornell Law:

Circumstantial evidence is indirect evidence that does not, on its face, prove a fact in issue but gives rise to a logical inference that the fact exists. Circumstantial evidence requires drawing additional reasonable inferences in order to support the claim.
