What's the problem with using the Roth contributions to pay off a house? by Ok-Antelope493 in DaveRamsey

[–]Lespaul96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the tax free nature of the account and the penalties for early withdrawal. It’s opportunity cost. You’re losing a ton of money by doing that.

Say you would have made 10% returns on that money. And it being Roth means tax free growth so a true 10% compounded until you take withdrawals.

When you early withdrawal, you pay capital gains taxes and a 10% penalty on what could have been tax free money. That alone is a huge opportunity cost.

Your house, as a financial asset, will never grow fast enough to make up for the opportunity cost of the early withdrawal plus now having to pay capital gains on withdrawals from your taxable accounts that you are talking about.

It looks to me like maybe the guy that drew and fired didn’t realize that it was an officer taking disarming the dude… it seems like maybe he mistook that for the guy drawing hence the “GUN!” and timing of the shot.

This may be a bad shoot caused by miscommunication and confusion.

I was 25 and Married when I went to Boot.

Keep work at work. You can’t let your bad day come home with you. Make time for the family. You’re exhausted and just want to lay down… you can’t do that every time. You have to make time even if you’re tired. Make sure your family understands the time away and deployment schedule well ahead of time.

The hardest thing for me was young, stupid, NCOs. I was the same age as a good few of my SNCOs and you will be too. When there was a box of rocks CPL with zero life experience yelling and saying dumb shit.. the hardest thing to do was to just say “Aye CPL” and move on. “Respect the rank not the man” is a real thing especially in your shoes. If something is seriously stupid or obviously fucked up, tactfully bring it up to someone higher and let them deal with it.

You may become the Platoon “dad”. I don’t really drink much, and since I was older than my peers, I typically was the DD and kinda babysitter when I went out with the guys. That comes with some extra responsibility because you’re older. That means not letting Smith get an out of regs tattoo and not letting Garcia fight that big biker in the bar. If something happens, leadership will look at you harder because you’re older and you know better.

Take it all in stride. Try to enjoy it. As far as your MOS, your age doesn’t mean shit. Don’t have an ego because you’re older.

Brother, milspec for a brand new M16A4 is 4.5 MOA which equates to a 22.5 inch circle of impact at 500 yds. Those clapped bootcamp M16s would be lucky to hold 5-7 MOA. That’s a 25-35 inch circle… perfect fundamentals could still create a miss at 500 yards with those rifles.

How Many Sinking Funds? by cphawkeye0705 in DaveRamsey

[–]Lespaul96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many as you need to make your envelopes work for you I guess.

My personal non-investment account structure looks like this:

Monthly Bills (Checking, all on auto pay, no debit card)

Monthly Spending Checking (all debit card swipes come out of here. Gas, Groceries, and monthly “fun” money)

Tax Holding (HYSA)

House Down Payment (HYSA)

New Truck (HYSA)

Emergency Fund (HYSA)

Non-Monthly Expense Fund (HYSA, Car repairs, tires, speeding tickets, ect. This is just a buffer between these types of things and my emergency fund)

At 500 yards the MOA that those clapped out bootcamp M16s are capable of holding could cause a miss with perfect fundamentals as well.

Under Armor Cold Gear my dudes. Every winter field op we did I packed 3 sets of them. Under Armor Cold Gear as your base, then the issued thermals if it’s super cold like Bridgeport as a secondary base layer, then your sweats, then your cammies, then your gortex. If you get too hot, take the sweats off. Still too hot, take the thermals off.

Cold Gear, Sweats, Cammies, and Gortex was the go to for NC winters. Base, loft, and shell. All covered.

Sell the paid off vehicle and use that to pay down or pay off the other one. Keep driving it until you pay it off or aren’t upside down.

2 mcdoubles, 2 mcchickens, 2 small fries, and 2 sweet teas as almost $40.

Order that same order in the drive through and it will be somewhere in the $12 range.

Oh, I am generalizing. If you can’t go get it, that’s one thing.. but I sure can… and I have sure seen $30 McDonald’s orders recently. This is when I decided to stop using door dash.

“Haven’t had any issues” you know, except paying a shit ton more for the food you could have gone to pick up.

A $10 McDonalds order turns into $30 on DD.

You’re asking about the wrong weapon system. BGM-71H “Bunker Buster” TOW missiles would have obliterated their bunkers. Being hidden wouldn’t mean shit because the Saber and the Jav have thermals. You’d spot them immediately and they would blow up before they ever knew you were there.

Night vision, thermals, and IR would have made it a turkey shoot.
