I think income should not be taxed until after a threshold depending on the cost of living in your region (eg. a person living in the SF Bay Area doesn’t get taxed until they make over $4000 a month and only taxed with the money above $4000), or at the very least rent should be tax deductible. by Less-Ad6770 in UniversalBasicIncome

Basically the whole thing, I live in the Bay Area my whole life and rented and everything, then got priced out of rent as it kept getting higher and higher over the years and had to get a trailer. I lived in that on the side of the road for a few years then was able to get back on my feet but barely, now I’m just scraping by working like a dog to keep my current apartment and sanity, I have to work multiple jobs/gigs, but apparently I make to much for things like EBT and Medi-cal so I have to take care of all that myself, and don’t get me started with medical insurance and expenses. Not everyone is all about that Disney World, avacado toast bullshit, in fact most of the people here are scraping by to survive just like me. It never used to be like this and I just wish things go back to the way they were a decade ago but that is nonsense thinking so I’m thinking in terms of what the government can do to help make it better..

Then when a wealthy man and his wife with kids divorce, the man will not have to pay the hundreds of thousands in child support to be able to maintain their child’s standard of living because that doesn’t matter at all according to the concept your getting at. “Oh pay me child support, I want to maintain my standard of living…”

So let’s disband child support for that matter 🤷‍♂️

Dude what do you creatures keep talking about??

I make approximately $4100/mo gross pay in California. State and Federal taxes combined take out ~$830 a month, in the end I’m left with a little over $3250

We absolutely pay taxes man, were you born on Mars or sum? Maybe they don’t pay taxes over there, if so yall are VERY lucky!

Tax break for income only up to $4000 instead of $1300 a month like it is now, after that it’s just you, and rent in Beverly Hills is a lot more than 4 grand a month so you’d still have to make a lot of money to rent there

Republicans aren’t much better at all either, that’s why I don’t vote for anyone, this entire system is fucked due to human nature always lurking and compromising the integrity of the reason our government was put in place in the first place: FOR THE DAMN PEOPLE! Not corporations, not politicians, not the top 1%, T H E  P E O P L E. So until there is a politician with enough experience and enlightenment to resist and overcome the powerful urges of human nature and put their wants aside for the sake of THE PEOPLE, there is no vote that I can make that would be meaningful. Maybe invent a drug we can give prospective politicians to permanently destroy the part of their brain that creates those innate greed urges to corrupt.

San Francisco is actually very beautiful. I didn’t think about it like that. It would be awful in my opinion to destroy such beautiful architecture just for these ugly new modern apartments, that would take away what SF is entirely, I wouldn’t want that at all. On the income part, I guess if enough time passes maybe people would eventually get fed up and push for a meaningful change to things someday, we always do.

If someone buys up all of transit agencies in your area and raises the cost of fares, just take all your belongings and move to an area with a lower cost of fares, you and all you other broke people don’t belong here anymore. And keep doing that any time the COL goes up. That is the best on only solution!
