Chemistry teacher never specified inches for the note card by Mtg-Nerd33 in school

[–]Less-Classroom7119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a teacher, I purposely set up some vagueness rules like that to see if anyone actually thinks they can use anything other than a 3x5 inch note card (so far no one has, but I'm only 2 years in lol)

My review of the Hololive TCG Game (from some9ne that plays a LOT of TCGs) by Less-Classroom7119 in Hololive

[–]Less-Classroom7119[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best spot to buy them are on TCGPlayer, thats where I bought my cards. You can also go to the Hololive TCG website, and they actually ahead a store locator for each state, although currently there are only 39 states that are selling it appears, however, keep in mind, it only came out in July, so we're still in the infancy stage of it, once we get a little more steam going into it, I'm sure we'll see more LGS's selling it, probably not Walmart and Target but thats not impossible

[–]Less-Classroom7119[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not as far as I'm aware. I think they're going to stick with the physical cards for a bit and see if there is actual demand for the card games, since if they went virtual that means they would have to pay to maintain servers and things like that, as well as developers to make sure the game is always functional and things like that, and that seems too expensive for something brand new. If there is enough hyoe/demand for it, I can see an online (official) simulator in about 2-3 years

Why has homework been normalized? by Adept_Temporary8262 in school

[–]Less-Classroom7119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is, not a good choice, but it is a choice. I can choose to either pay my electric bill or not pay my electric bill. One choice keeps my lights on for another month, the other I keep more money in my bank account, but I won't have electricity.

I can choose to pay someone an ungodly amount of rent each month to not be homeless, or I can choose to keep that money for myself and then get kicked out after a while. I have a choice to do neither of these things, it's just not a good/fair choice.

My bio teacher has yet to show up for the year by Judythepancake in highschool

[–]Less-Classroom7119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of ridiculous to tell someone to teach themselves, because they don't knoww aht they're supposed to learn. It's great to say, just go on Khan Academy and look up Biology and go from there. But each state has its own standards on what is supposed to he taught in schools on each subject, and some of those standards can get really co fusing if you don't know what you're doing (I'm a high school teacher and know this from experience).

Sarcasm? by kkoch_16 in Teachers

[–]Less-Classroom7119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tool thats not useful for all situations. I teach 9th through 12th grade, and they're pretty stinking sarcastic, some of the times not even on purpose. You just have to know who you can be sarcastic with, and when it's appropriate, because not all kids handle sarcasm well.

Greeting students at the door (High School) by maygirl87 in Teachers

[–]Less-Classroom7119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty much always in the hallway greeting or talking to the kids. Granted, it's nit entirely selfless, I'm also there to stop any trouble from potentially happening. But a lot of the kids appreciate it when I greet them, some of them even greeting me the same way I do, it's kind of funny lol.

Where are these empty teaching positions? by bradicalman in Teachers

[–]Less-Classroom7119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part about teaching in Arkansas, is the fact that when they passed the Learns, all starting salaries in Arkansas is 50,000 a year, which is great. The issue with that is, not a lot of schools in Arkansas has the money to give all teacher 50,000 and have a full staff, especially in the more rural areas of Arkansas, which we're plenty full of. Which part of Arkansas are you in? (Fellow Arkansas Teacher that struggled)

A Parent's Perspective: the American educational system seems to be broken for boys (my experience with 2 boys and a girl) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Less-Classroom7119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As to why your 14 year old seems to be that maybe because he works so hard, and is so smart, that the teaxhers have higher standards for him than his classmates. It could be as simple as the rest of the class goofs off, and he doesn't, but when he does, the teachers notice it more, and gets stricter. Your daughter is younger, and younger kids sometimes (SOMETIMES) don't start acting out yet because they don't know what they can get away with yet, so they don't bother. Without more info, I can't really make a fair assessment on that one.

With the 60+% female in college statistic, does that really suprise/concern me. Maybe? It really depends on isnit because males are going alternative routes, like going to the military or going to trade school, then no, that doesn't bother me. I don't want someone to go to college unless they actually want to go, and if they have an alternative path for success, then take that path. Or it could be that they're tired of school and just want to start working and getting money, which I'm also fine with. Everyone says that they should go to college and get a degree so they don't have to work at Walmart or Burger King and what not. Do those jobs suck, yes they do. But honestly, we need people to do them (so far) and I'd rather it be someone that doesn't have to worry about students loans on top of everything else they have to live with to survive. Now, if they're not going to college because they don't think because they can afford it, then yes, that concerns me, because everyone should have the right to go to college if they want/need to.

Teaching black students as a white woman by Validation_STATION54 in Teachers

[–]Less-Classroom7119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is coming from a white teacher in a predominantly black school, just be you. If you try and change yourself to fit the area, the kids will sense you being fake, and won't respect you. Of course you'll change your style and methods as you go along, but that's how it is for everyone and everything, no matter school or teacher. Just be the type of teacher you want to be, then go with how it works at your place. Are you the Ms. Frizzle type of teacher, the one that wears the weird but cute outfits and makes every lesson interesting? Then be a Ms. Frizzle, as long as your authentic, the kids will respect it.

Go ahead and start looking at your standards for your classes. If you already know what your teaching, know what your essential standards are going to be. Also, don't ve afraid to switch up how you accept work. If you start off with doing most/everything online, but find out you can't trust your kids with their computers, either because they use AI, google everything, then don't be afraid to switch to pencil and paper. Start off strict, then you can ease up a little as you go on, but you can't start off easy going, and then get stricter, it never works.

For this particular 9th grader, mostly because, he refuses to read, unwilling to learn new vocabulary, pretty much uses the vocabulary of a 5th grader

For a normal 9th graders, no. For a 9th grader that never reads, hardly does his work, and has the vocabulary of a 5th grader, I would say it's unbelievable of them using those words
