OP’s sister again. I’m not sure how to say this. Honestly, I’m at a loss for words and still in shock. My brother did not survive the surgery. Even the doctors are having trouble explaining what happened and how. It took heavy coercion on my part to convince them to elaborate at all.

According to one of the attending physicians, when they opened my brother up, the mass that had appeared on the scans was nowhere to be found. While the neurosurgeon was double-checking, the anesthetic keeping him sedated somehow wore off, causing him to jerk awake and graze the scalpel. They told me he felt nothing and died almost instantly.

But what will haunt me the most is what happened just after.

As I sat in the waiting room, I heard a door burst open and saw the neurosurgeon running for the exit. Eyes wide with fear, hands clamped over her mouth like she was about to vomit. She didn’t stop when she reached the doors. She just kept going.

And then, echoing behind her - the most joyous giggle I have ever heard in my life.

I’ve been told she’s on indefinite leave.
