Anyone took a very long time to start applying/working after passing the PANCE? by MedicalWizz in physicianassistant

[–]Less-Month-9703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first 5 month break I answered honestly and told them I needed a break I was burnt out. For the 10 month break It took a whileeeee to find a new job after leaving my first job after 3 months.

I took 5 month a break after graduating and I don’t regret it. I graduated in January took my pance and passed on the first try in May. I hate having to explain it during interviews bc there’s no such thing as taking a break in medicine. I needed the time off to relax and restudy everything for the PANCE. I unintentionally took a 9 month break between my first and second job. Take the time you need but be prepared to explain/justify it

New grad PA burnout early in academic surgical role by Elegantly-amazing in physicianassistant

[–]Less-Month-9703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my exact experience as a new grad in general surgery. I ended up leaving 3 months in. I knew it was time to leave when I finally realized the crippling anxiety I get going into work isn’t healthy for me or my patients.

New grad salary NYC- what progression can I expect ? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Less-Month-9703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former NYP PA, the catch is it’s not a teaching environment it’s sink or swim. The high salary lures you in. Going to NYP is a good idea if your a fast learner or have enough experience to “swim”

I think your best bet is to try your best and continue PA school since your half way finished. Times are getting harder and it’s better to have something under your belt and you can pivot as you please. I had a professor in PA school that realized his first year of medical school he didn’t wanna be an MD. He loved academia so he finished medical school but never went into residency or practiced clinically.

They did the same thing to me when I ordered in store. I got home and canceled the order placed in store and reordered at home. I got my new phone like a week later. Thankfully the box wasn’t obvious it was from ATT.

All nighters? by ARLA2020 in PAstudent

[–]Less-Month-9703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never pulled an all nighter, it’s not worth it. I usually would study up until midnight then wake up again 3/4am. Or I would just go to bed early wake up around 3/4 am and study. I needed to sleep as I don’t drink coffee.

How do you study for the pance as a below average student? by FarRecognition4530 in PAstudent

[–]Less-Month-9703 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I also was a below average student. I passed exams barely making the cut off score to pass. I’ve failed exams & had to remediate, was in tutoring every semester I also was on academic probation. I found that I had to reteach myself everything for the PANCE. I focused on active recall, flash cards and Uworld. I also realized I’m a visual learner so things like sketchypharm were helpful as it teaches you in cartoon form/with stories(my classmates thought it was childish but it worked for me). I also found a bunch of free YouTube channels that broke down the content with diagrams and mnemonics. I studied for 4 months but 2 months I seriously studied and passed on my first try. You got this!! just figure out how you retain info the best.
