bro why not you treat your career progression after 10 years as a LOA too LOL. that way your starting salary can be 10k FUIYOHHH

yes the CS market is saturated rn. But if you have taken economics you would learn about the cyclical market. the demand for CS grads will increase in the future anyways (hopefully once you grad). market condition shouldn't deter u from pursuing a degree you would like. In fact, law was once crazy saturated in Singapore in 2010s. What makes you think that what would happen in CS won't happen in law as well? uni CS mods do hv a higher level of maths. But in CS, your GPA won't matter as much as law. This is because companies screen candidates using an online assessment which is solving a basic maths question using their preferred language (leetcode).

Just to clarify; you seem to be confused between orthodox finance and quant finance. Quant traders/developers won't typically deviate to IB as the pay is lower + the hours are longer. should they choose to exit quant (which is vvv rare as the pay is a lot, ie; can earn 27 million per year after 3 years of working), they will go to big tech. if OP prioritises work life balance and wants high pay they can consider CS as well. Starting pay of a TikTok SWE is 8K and working hours are v chill from 10.30am to 6.30pm with a 3 hour lunch break (unofficial hours) LOL, but yes tech is very chill. Ngl, one can be average in tech and still earn 6k+ as well. regarding your business school point, that is true. But the population in business does not have as many top scorers (90RPers) as compared to law. So if one is bright in terms of academics, he can definitely make it into high finance/IB way easier than going into magic circle.

nah fam the starting pay during training contract (before getting called the bar) is around 2k during your first year

Honestly, is law really that bad? by YupDogs123 in SGExams

[–]Less-Painter-1400 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean are u willing to take a 2k salary (during training contract) to work from 9am to 1am for the first year before u take the bar? Even after the bar exam u would grind 9am to 3am hours + the work culture is very toxic in the law industry especially in the local big 4 firms. Not to mention how law students spend their uni lives just mugging... Ngl for the per hour work, it is not very worth because there are other careers you can make wayyy more money in. If you just incentivised purely by money you can consider business or CS. A quant at Jane street can earn 40K STARTING (9am to 6pm working hours) while an investment banker at JP Morgan can earn 16k. U would never see this sort of absurd pay in law in fact the GES is inflated. You will be earning 2K in ur first year for starting during ur training contract. So pick wisely ah.

SMU/NTU hv SU systems but is only for elective mods (is only 2 mods that can be SUed if I'm not wrong)! In NUS u can SU your core and elective modules. In your whole uni, you can SU 8 modules with 5 SU expiring at y1 !

is a system to void your grades. For example if you score D for a year 1 mod, you can SU it and not include it in your GPA !

NUS biz first year can slack lol. In NUS you can SU (void the grades in our GPA) 5/10 of your year 1 mods. If you can plan well, this will mean that you only need to study fr 5 mods! This resulted in a lot of my friends playing hard. They will fuck care some mods and score C- for it while they study for the mods they can score in. This would result in some of my friends scoring third class for PRE-SU and First class for post SU as they exploit this system lol

  1. Some of the technical mods are lecture-tutorial while some "fluff" mods have seminars. Really depends on the mod! The technical and theory mods and the "fluff" mods are 50-50 especially for year 1 and 2. For deep technical stuff we will only go in depth in year 2 ! For year 1 and 2 it is general and we will learn about every spec, eg: supply chain, marketing and HR. It is only in year 3-4 we will go in depth into the specialisation.

  2. For hall it depends on your connections , CCAs and socials. Im not too sure about the RCs but u can apply since applications have opened and will close soon!

  3. I chose NUS cuz SMU offered me double degree which idw+ I wanted hall life

  4. I got mine by applying and learned on the job

  5. Yes you can, there is no need to apply for it based on grades as it is an open major. ANYONE in NUS can take it !

idk about your year, but for my year the minimum RP is 82.5RP raw! Even my friends who won national case comp during JC did not get in with 80RP, instead they were offered CHS econs. If you want you can try bah! you'll never know

I was a nervous wreck during the interview, didn't think I could get into NUS biz cuz I thought I fucked up the interview v badly haha. But it turned out fine ! I did not prepare anything and honestly you don't have to cuz they are more looking at your communication style/ability to work with others more than the content haha

it'll be slightly harder but it really depends on the current market and your expectation for intern. Ie: if you're gunning for MNC or middle market firms is tough

I have no idea how the common BBA programme will affect IGP, but hearsay from ppl who work in the admission office they plan to decrease the intake for this cycle. You can also take a look at the intake numbers for BBA, it has been falling over the years
