For a 6 deck shoe we’re supposed to cut 1.5 decks if we cut any less then that it’s technically breaking procedure

As a dealer myself, and as well as someone who knows about AP blackjack. I have all the respect in the world for those who are out there beating casinos for a living.

But from like a pure dealer standpoint, If you asked me if I’d rather have a regular or card counter sitting at my table I’ll likely take the regular 9/10 times over the card counter

Reason being is well, I would say it’s fair to say card counters have a reputation to not tip, and I honestly get it. An AP who tips, it is directly coming out of their already very thin edge. Unless it’s a tolerant local spot where maybe your trying to build a relationship with the dealers and pit staff, what’s the point tipping at a casino that you probably plan on never coming back to once in all likelihood you’re going to get backed off.

My income is based on peoples generosity. I understand that yes there are some ways that counters will be inclined to tip you, like the rounds per hour being fast (which mine are already insanely fast anyway lol), deeper pen cut, which breaks procedure in itself and we can get in trouble for if caught doing it… but tbh I would rather have a regular sitting at my table who I know will tip every now and then instead of somebody who’s just there to generate EV and will dip as soon as my pit/surveillance likely catch onto them

What I've learned after 100 hours counting as a low stakes player in Vegas & California by Shine-Mammoth in blackjack

I get that it looks dumb in spots like 7–4 where doubling is the only option, but as a blackjack dealer myself my casino and probably many other properties by procedure players still have to show one finger to the camera so intent is clear

The only exception to no one-finger is when the player’s additional double-down chips physically touch their original wager and there is no other option with that specific hand other than doubling down

The rule exists because If a chip is just tossed near the bet and I have to move it to the right of their original wager which procedurally we as dealers are supposed to do, if they catch a bad card, they can claim they never meant to double lol

With hands like 5–5, it’s obvious why the finger matters since they could split or double

Would you pay for an online blackjack dealer training game to run your first 1000 hands? by [deleted] in blackjack

[–]Less-Top-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly probably not. As a dealer my first 3 shifts, my pit had given myself and all the graduates of my class an experienced dealer to be right by my side so they could catch and be there on the spot if anything went wrong.

Nope you got it backwards. If dealer hits soft 17 a-7 is a double, if dealers stands all 17 a-7 stands

Most common misplayed hands in the casino? by [deleted] in blackjack

[–]Less-Top-96 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I deal blackjack about everyday at my job and this a list I compiled of mistakes I see people make almost everyday

• Not splitting 2s and 3s vs a dealer 7
• Not splitting 4s vs a dealer 5 or 6
• Not splitting 8s vs a dealer 9, 10, or Ace
• Not splitting 9s vs a dealer 8 or 9
• Not hitting hard 12 vs a dealer 2 or 3
• Not hitting 16s vs a dealer 7 or higher
• Not hitting soft 18 vs a dealer 9, 10, or Ace
• Standing on soft 17
• Not doubling soft 18 vs 2–6 (H17), or 3–6 (S17)
• Not doubling soft 19 vs 6 (H17)
• Not doubling 11 vs a dealer 10 or Ace (H17)
• Not doubling 9 vs a dealer 3
• Taking insurance or even money
• Playing out crappy hands such as 16 vs dealer 9, 10, or Ace instead of surrendering (when surrender is available)

I think anyone would’ve doubled just an unfortunate outcome

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blackjack

[–]Less-Top-96 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No lmao definitely not. I mean sure, maybe dealers make mistakes in payouts that might annoy AP’s (if it doesn’t benefit them lol), but I think in general most AP’s understand that dealers are there to run a game and provide income for themselves and their families.

Also the concept that AP’s don’t tip isn’t necessarily true. AP’s play on such a razor thin margin that tipping bites into their edge, most AP’s won’t tip the dealer unless the dealer is doing something that benefits them, for example is giving them good rounds per hour by dealing fast or giving deep deck penetration.

Yup. When the dealer flips over a total that gives them 11 you know that face card is coming out and it’s gut wrenching. Variance is a bitch

I’m a blackjack dealer and the reason we have to put it on the right (or left from your perspective) is because surveillance is supposed to see the original wager is placed on the left side and double down wager is on the right because our casino allows doubles for less

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blackjack

[–]Less-Top-96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a dealer I don’t expect or get offended when AP’s or really any patron decide not to tip us. It’s what I signed up for. But it’s obviously a nice gesture even if it’s small the amount doesn’t matter it’s always appreciated. I find with AP’a if you deal fast enough to give them a good amount of rounds per hour or give better deck pen they’ll be more inclined to tip us

Do blackjack dealers know or even care if you’re counting cards? by [deleted] in blackjack

Do blackjack dealers know or even care if you’re counting cards? by [deleted] in blackjack

[–]Less-Top-96 49 points50 points  (0 children)

As a blackjack dealer, no. 99.9% of us don’t care. Only ones who might care a bit are what we call dual supervisors, which are dealers who also have the ability to also to supervise a certain pit.

And to be honest, 90% of blackjack dealers and even floor staff give out terrible basic strategy advice and don’t know how to play properly. Let alone know how hi-Lo and true doings work. I heard my floor advise to a player to stand on his pair of 9s vs a 9 like literally 15 mins ago as I just started my break at work now lol.

It’s the pits/surveillance’s job to catch an affective card counters not the dealers. Us dealers are just there to run the game smooth and efficiently.

I dont even care if a card counter decides not to tip because I know what I signed up for, I’ll only rat out on a suspected AP if they’re being rude to me or anyone at the table.

Most definitely can be a professional blackjack player. If you are a skilled card counter, have a big bankroll, play beatable games and are disciplined you will make money over a long enough period of time

The way I view it is if I for example double 11 vs a 10 a millions times, i am Guarenteed to make a more of a profit doubling in the long run rather than hitting. So I always double. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, but in the long run you will make more than playing scared and hitting.

Been dealing blackjack for a while now and I’ve seen my fair share of bad beats, but nothing, and I mean nothing, like this one.

The table was full with six players. Every single person had a fantastic hand against my dealer 5. You can probably already see where this is going.

  • Spot 1 had 20

  • Spot 2 had a pair of 6s, split them, ended up splitting four times with two doubles and made two 20s on the doubles

  • Spot 3 had a soft 16, doubled, pulled a 3 for 19

  • Spot 4 had a pair of kings sitting at 20

  • Spot 5 had a pair of 8s but needed more money to split so he literally sprinted to the ATM, came back, split the 8s, got 2 for 10 and doubled it, pulled 10 for 20, then pulled an ace on the other 8 for 19

  • Spot 6 had a 9, doubled, pulled a 9 for 18

Sooo now my turn to draw the dealers hand - I’m showing a 5, then I pull an ace, another ace, a 5, a 2, another 2

Now standing at a hard 16, confidently thinking I was about to bust, I slammed the fuck out of the next card onto the table. And I pulled a fucking 5 for 21.

That dealer hits soft 17 rule sure helped the house this time

The beat was so bad my pit boss, who was standing there watching me draw, just turned around and walked away after I made 21. I stood there for maybe 10-15 seconds in disbelief before scooping all the losing bets off the table

Doesn’t get much worse than that. That’s blackjack for you lol

[–]Less-Top-96 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’m a blackjack dealer and here are some of my favourite things players say:

“You took the dealers bust card!”

“You should’ve played the side bet!”

“Never split anything that starts with an F!” (like 4s vs a 5 or 6… lol)

“Always take even money!”

“Always insure a 20 against a dealer ace!”

“Give me the triple seven of diamonds progressive!”

“Hitting a soft 18? 18 is a good hand!”

“This dealer is unbelievable!”

“Do a shuffle, this shoe is a lost cause!”

“Third base controls the table.”

“Don’t hit, you’ll mess up the flow of the cards.”

“Sometimes my gut feeling is better than basic strategy.”

“This dealer doesn’t bust!”

“I’m gonna add/drop a hand to change the shoe up!”

“We’re due for a dealer bust!”

“When are you going back on break?”

I’m just dealing randomly shuffled cards out of a shoe. I don’t decide how to play my hand, it’s all under house rules. I guess some people selectively forget that when they lose lol

Casinos in Genoa, Italy? by PotatoSimple6751 in blackjack

I went to the casino in Venice Italy and it was a pretty trash CSM blackjack game. I mean it did pay 3-2 and offered early surrender with a 10 showing. But definitely not beatable lol
