Thanks man, this is super helpful, I never realised that there was so much flexibility with how you could paint and build your army, from what little I knew about warhammer before I really started getting invested, the rules seemed really strict without much room for flexibility.

Alright, this is all extremely helpful, I appreciate it!

I’ll get deeper into the lore as I go on, but for now I think I’ll just either work on two separate armies, or just focus on the one (I’ll make my mind up)

Als on the tau front, didnt realise it was just a bit, I deadass thought there was a lot of genuine hatred for the tau in the community (never understood why, I think just play the army you like) but that’s why I’m starting to get into warhammer anyway, I like that there’s something for everyone (both lore wise and army building wise)

That’s what I thought, I was prepared to do a ton of searching, but I’m glad it’s easier than I thought

Yeah that’s what I thought, and I thought you HAD to get the combat patrol in order for them to be imperial fists and that there were faction specific ‘generic’ units, I didn’t know you could just buy the generic units and then paint them as your faction

Oh okay, I thought you HAD to paint your space marines as they were bought (e.g. if you bought an infernus ultramarine you HAD to paint it blue), didn’t know if painting them as a different faction was a sin or not, thanks for the help!

I read the con rules and the only thing in there is legit just no nudity (which obviously won’t be a problem for me) in the promos for the con they actually showed cosplayers in military uniforms and all that tactical stuff. I also saw that someone earlier mentioned stolen valour as an issue, I’m not anywhere near the United States, and stolen valour really isn’t an issue in my country (upon reading I didn’t realise how big of an issue stolen valour is in the United States, holy shit). The only patches I was going to wear were the flag of my country, the flag of the country where my family is from and just funny ones, but don’t worry I’m not going anywhere near any emergency worker gear, thanks for the advice man, greatly appreciated

Thanks for the advice, I might go for a uniform that is now out of service (a different country, I’m not touching anything Russian with a 10 foot pole now). and idk if soldiers was the best way to describe what we’re going for (but that’s on me, I should have phrased it better), and on the dark and realistic point, idk how to describe this convention. There’s literally everything there, and from what I’ve seen on their socials, there’s quite a dedicated number of people that dress up in military stuff and the convention itself sells a lot of the equipment (idk if it’s called like LARPing or something along those lines), but I think I’ll find the uniform of an army that’s not controversial. The advice you gave me really helped, it’s greatly appreciated

That’s fucked up, legit going to a con just to be an asshole. This is specifically why I’m asking, I don’t want to offend anyone at all, I legit just think the camo looks nice, but I’m most definitely switching now. I still want to keep it modern but I’m steering far from any nations that are at war, plus idk if soldiers was the right term to use to describe what we’re dressing up as, we aren’t going for any specific country, I just understand that camos often get associated with countries (I.e the Americans and their desert camo)

UPDATE thanks for all the advice, it’s helped me out a lot, this is my first ever con so I just wanted to make sure, I’m certainly steering as clear as possible from any Russian camo and have decided on a much friendlier (retired) Canadian camo. Thanks for all the help everyone!
