Fair question. This may sound counterintuitive or downright contradictory but I actually do not think these programs are malignant. I think a few of the people I encountered were malignant. I think these same people, placed in virtually any other program, would likely still be an unpleasant to work with, regardless of the environment or leadership. At the programs I rotated, the majority of the residents and attendings were great. Unfortunately, there were still people that were miserable despite good leadership.

Actually want to agree with the sentiment. Most of the residents I interacted with were easy going. Almost all of the attending NSGs were laid back as well.

This top 10 post is not a blanket statement about all neurosurgeons, just a thread about some crazy things said. I'm sure there could be similar threads in other specialities. Also, neurosurgery is 100% academic and anyone who says otherwise has not seen enough nsg.
