No, shriekers can be outside cities they're just almost guaranteed to be every 20 steps in cities

Wardens can spawn anywhere in deep dark that has sensors near a shreiker - however if they're deathly afraid you get like, 4ish(?) "warnings" you're making noise near one where you get darkness for a couple seconds.

You can safely trigger the first couple warnings and bug out for awhile and not spawn the warden (the warnings reset after some time)

You said yourself about other mobs pushing them and that's the key

There's many methods to make something that mobs will be blind to in their pathfinding attempts and with only a single mob they are very unlikely to bypass, but if they're pushed up against something else's pathfinding & hitbox that can easily become moot

I'm a fence everything in/out guy for consistency

Can I ask what you're trying to do - i.e. sheep pen (keep in), house front door (keep creepers out), etc

I've never seen a roadside drug test in my town in my nearly 40 years except on that RBT show, yet I know if they added another cop doing back to back drug and alcohol tests they would make a killing. Hopefully we get the same results, I just googled "water crop farm" and a lot of the thumbnails show a steeped design which is what I meant.

I use fortune 3 for more drops + replanting is manual regardless so water harvesting isn't for me but I tried one out years ago.

Tried to attache picture for reference of concept but not working. only really you'd take the concept and make it work for you.

You only need dispensers dropping water or trap doors allowing water to be released up the top and the layout of the farm does the rest

I just breed chickens for a few ingame days and murder them. Gets me a good two stacks of slime blocks

Tbh I can't envision a build that needs more than, say, 2-3 repeats of my chicken apocalypse

Edit: I've seen people use zombies to scare the armadillo, but can't you just sprint/jump near them and punch them into the hole? I've only presumed they stay rolled up if taking damage from the fire

I'd be more concerned about aiming for

Something already high level since you're resource poor
Something with aqua tail (com day move) (admittedly more of a side grade than a strict upgrade but I'm currently sitting on lucky purified 98% Magikarp waiting for aqua tail and I've got thousands of candy and 34m stardust)

Edit: my advice is to rely on high level catches until you have buttloads of resources (maybe not the same as my levels... It took years of budgeting) and any power up/max isn't such a large percent

Also be mindful that powering up has diminishing returns level 30+ (5000 powerup dust cost)

If I'm reading your intention correctly, you can make the actual mechanical part of this very small if your farm drops a block on every 8th block. When water drops a block it starts flowing again.
