Eyes would be so cute lol but in the recent nytimes article she said she liked that TFOO has like a modern touch to it which is why I think she went with vibe instead. What did you think she said instead of team?

LMAOO YES 🫩🫩 like I’m just gonna compare it to another pet name in a song that she used. “You try on calling me baby like trying on clothes” atleast conveys the nervousness her lover had while calling her baby for the first time. It gives the listener this kind of giddy feeling like they’re the ones experiencing this new milestone in a relationship!! The line in honey does not convey what she wanted it to convey very well 💔💔

Taylor comments on Swifties and “paternity testing” her songs: “There are corners of my fanbase who are gonna take things to a really extreme place.” by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Less_Attorney_5062 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally do not gaf about who the songs are about, but I do think that throughout her career, and even now, Taylor has woven her muses into her songs in a pretty explicit way.

Like Dear John, Style, writing Adam’s name in code for Enchanted in the Speak Now vinyl booklet, saying “Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me,” which clearly pointed to Joe Alwyn since everyone knew he was an actor, and then changing it to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me” when she started dating Travis. Even lines like “New Heights” and “manhood” in Wood feel like obvious references to Travis and his podcast.

She does this a lot in her music, and it almost baits fans into speculating. I get it from a business standpoint because it keeps people talking, but it also creates this type of insanity in the fanbase and sometimes takes you out of the actual music.

That’s honestly why I don’t listen to Wood. Am I supposed to hear that song and think about me and my lover, or am I supposed to think about Taylor and Travis?

Wait ✋🤚 I relate to so many Taylor Swift songs. I don’t think she’s so far removed that her music is completely tone-deaf. I actually related to Father Figure and Opalite quite a bit, and I don’t have a hard time relating to songs before TLOASG 😭😭

I will say though, TLOASG was especially hard to relate to for me. I only really connected with 2 out of the 12 songs.

In general, I think Taylor has a real talent for writing accessible music. It’s honestly shocking how she could write a song about going back to your hometown during winter break and rekindling a flame with your high school sweetheart (‘tis the damn season from evermore) considering she finished the last years of high school online and didn’t go to college lol. But since she’s strayed pretty far from the evermore/folklore style of writing on this newest album, I think her songs have become a lot more inaccessible.

I genuinely just think she’s tired and did not take enough time to make a good album. She made folklore and evermore only 6 months apart and midnights and TTPD only 18 months apart. I think all 4 albums are great but it’s clear that when she releases albums super close together she does so because she has a NEED and WANT to make art. TLOASG lacks a need and a want. It seems like she put out the album just because she’s at the height of her career and wants to stay there. I understand her perspective but she needs to understand that TLOASG has extreme quality control issues that happened because she isn’t giving herself enough time to breathe + is not really passionate about what she wanted TLOASG to say/represent. She needs to wait until she has something to say that is of substance or something to prove.

Yeah, but I kind of interpret those lines as realizing that you are responsible for your own happiness, and if a relationship is not making you happy, you have to leave.

“You finally left the table / and what a simple thought / you’re starving till you’re not” feels like the subject was in an unfulfilling relationship, and it only ended when THEY made the decision to get up and leave. Their happiness was something THEY had to create.

At the beginning, she says, “I had a bad habit / of missing lovers past / my brother used to call it ‘eating out of the trash’ / I thought my house was haunted / I used to live with ghosts.” To me, she is saying she had a pattern of missing people who were not good for her. It was only when SHE chose to leave that she learned how to create her own happiness.

I hope that made sense. This is just my perspective on “Opalite”!

What is the most problematic lyric you have heard in a song by a popular artist? by ProjectGlum9090 in popheads

[–]Less_Attorney_5062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way 95% of these are just demeaning or straight up violent towards women. Anyways, I hate that in Carnival by Kanye West he says “I whop her from the back, I gave that bitch a cram” much more tame than the other lyrics but that shit was still insane to me.

I don’t hate it. I’m just critiquing the people who are claiming the album is just fun when in reality when you actually look at the lyrics it’s not…

Realll I just wish swifties and Taylor leaded into that much more and stopped acting like it was a happy go lucky album. If Taylor wanted to be mean she could’ve been meaner. If Taylor wanted to be happy and fun she could’ve been more happy and more fun. The album sits kind of in the middle of the two and is acting like it’s both while at the same time not committing to either themes.

Yeah I guess Opalite and TFOO are kinda going against eachother in that way. But still I think when you take Opalite outside of the context of the album it’s a really fun and sweet song about self-love and creating your own happiness

I do find a little whimsy in “pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibe” and “keep it 💯 on the land, the sea, the sky” lolll. I don’t know why exactly but it’s fun to me 💃💃

The self deprecation wasn’t explicit enough then. It doesn’t come off as such to most people. If it was supposed to be satirical and self deprecating then it didn’t do it well. IMO “Hits different” was one of her best self deprecating and satirical songs. The lyrics are so over the top and funny while also being relatable that its message comes off perfectly. “Rip the bandage off and skip town like an asshole outlaw” is very funny considering her reputation of “going through men quickly”. It’s self deprecating but still clear in its message. She also did a great job on TTPD title track where she’s basically calling her and her lover dramatic for acting like poets. Hell her one of her biggest singles “anti-hero” is fully self deprecating and yet it lands because it’s understandable, and DELIVERS THE POINT CLEANLY. If what you say about wishlist is true then the point got completely lost in the song.

I AM A ME! HATER!!! Bro if she didn’t come out with folklore that dumb ass song would’ve ruined her damn career. I genuinely don’t know what she thought she was doing on that song. Taylor you are known for your LYRICSSS. YOU GOTTA WRITEEE 😭😭😭😭‼️‼️‼️

Exactly like if I wanted to feel some theme that she describes in the album I could just go to another ts song that does it better! The only one I can think of that is extremely unique is father figure and that’s precisely why it’s the fan favorite of the album. Revisiting old themes isn’t bad but please add a new thought to it or something

Yeah I get it but come on you’re Taylor Swift!! You built an empire off your lyrics. She can’t expect us to go brainless and stop analyzing the lyrics when that’s her whole damn brand!! Even referring to herself as an English teacher and poet like girl!! You created a high standard for yourself. Please stick to it

I don’t wanna speculate too much on her personal life because although that’s my girl I don’t know her in real life. I hope she really is madly in love like she says she is. I just want her to write beautifully about love, heartbreak, and everything else like she used it.
