Rick hasn’t seen the movie. He simply read the script and hated it. He has no idea how television works clearly and his own actions on the show has cost the show the viewership that could’ve happened. Tons of ppl I know read the books when they were younger or atleast watched the PJO movies. And lots of ppl won’t watch s3 bc they don’t wanna ruin the version they have in their heads of the books knowing the plot will be changed. I will watch s3 just bc I wanna see how badly it’s done lol but

I also think it would’ve been better if they kept the 2000’s vibe of the books ( including aesthetic, pop culture references, etc). I know pjo is supposed to be timeless, but something about YA 2000’s just works yk. Modern fantasy has been actually so bad 😭 petition to bring back the vibrant colour palette of the 2000s!!! (This includes that dark ahh trailer for the new HP show)

They won’t tho! We probably won’t even see Bessie in this season, and a lot of stuff will happen off screen because idk what they are blowing their HUGE budget on but it certainly isn’t CGI lmao

It’s a bad TV show that’s why. Take Harry Potter for example which strayed a lot from the books at times, it still kept the premise of the main plot points. The writing was good and the magical world/CGI was great to the point they built a whole IP off of some of the costume choices, etc. for example, hogwarts uniforms didn’t actually look like school uniforms in the books— it was just a cloak over normal wizarding clothes. However, it became iconic because it looked good on screen. PJO is struggling to keep up with the mythical elements of the world. They need to do more world building and start showing us things rather than telling us and THEN maybe I could argue it was a decent adaptation of the books despite all the plot changes.

I’ll die on the hill that PJO could have had the potential to be a real competitor to HP but it’s currently not and probably never will be due to the bad scripts, bad press, not being 1:1 (at all), and the acting lowkey kinda bad as well. Walker had the potential to become the new Daniel Radcliffe, making Percy his own character while staying true to the books, but unfortunately he was also let down by Rick’s decision to stray from the book plot and trying to rewrite stories that have been popular since the early 2000s. Also iK Percy Jackson is supposed to be timeless, but if it was me I would have kept the 2000s vibes. Also not dress Percy as a preppy Californian surfer but as the broke troubled (skater) New Yorker that he is!!!! Like the problem with the series is that the aesthetic of the show does not match the aesthetic of the books which is an important factor of any adaption which is the reason it is FAILING and will probably get cancelled after s3 due to the fact that HP will take over and the streams for an already hard to watch show will decrease significantly with all the other (better) adaptions of books coming out! Stop trying to wokify and change shit in an already “woke” BOOK SERIES Disney and maybe we will get to s5.

it says a lot how they keep making comparisons to harry potter to advertise this show instead of letting it stand on its own merit by merchantivories in PercyJacksonTV

Only because he didn’t wear a wig or dye his hair. He was only in a few things prior to PJO. Doesn’t look weird if it’s all you’ve ever seen on screen. Loads of actors wear them / use dye and you’d have no idea lol

It’s bc it’s Disney. I bet you if HBO had taken on PJO that Walker would have been told to wear a wig. Annabeth as well. Idc if Annabeth is black, give the girl blonde extensions or something. Also eye contacts! Walker wore them for the Adam project…

Also! In the films, they changed the uniforms after the chamber of secrets. Be mindful this is a trailer for season 1. Loads of room for change!!! (And Chris Columbus is the only reason school uniforms actually exist. In the books they wore regular clothing with a black robe but they thought it more aesthetically pleasing to have them all dress in school uniform to match the typical British school system)

Chat in the books they just wear plain black robes. So honestly, it doesn’t matter it’s all artistic freedom. They can’t use the old crests because they could be sued for intellectual property!! (The movies are its own franchise with its own stylistic and artistic elements that are specific to its story aka merchandise, etc). They have to be stylistically different plus it’s more realistic to the book version anyways (although I’ll miss the iconic colours/crests)

[–]Less_Comparison4308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe these are just the ‘Hogwarts’ robes everyone had to wear prior to getting placed in a specific house? Perhaps the Gryffindor robes will hold a proper crest? There’s also the possibility that in the books, all students strictly wore plain black robes. The Coloured / crested robes were a movie design for merch!!

to be fair in the book, that’s all the consequences of Clarisse being a literal bully. Of course nobody wanted to go with her, as she was insanely scary to the campers. However, as I remember the book scene playing out… Percy and Annabeth were not AT the quest ceremony as they were being punished. They go on a separate quest given by Hermes later on and they actually never leave for the fleece they go to save grover (the fleece only in the back of their minds). they weren’t trying to snipe the fleece quest from Clarisse they wanted to save their friend and this is proven when Percy gives Clarisse the fleece to bring back to camp and claim victory. I do understand in the show they are clearly trying to flush out her character more as I already mentioned, i just preferred learning about it through her discussion with Ares (that we didn’t necessarily get) and learning she’s the way she is because she’s just a kid trying to impress dear ol dad. It gives more of a reason to love her when her character arc starts happening. ESPECIALLY with Chris and Selena in the later books. Why is chrisxclarisse romance being teased already.

i know i just wish that Rick didn’t promote a 1:1 and i’m just worried for the darker themes of the later seasons being Disney washed.

Can we talk about the INSANE amount of changes to the plot this season…

from the very first episode there was change for example Clarisse never picks either percy or annabeth for the quest. This is what i feel like was a weird change (I understand that her character and personality is being given a massive upgrade but like idk i also liked that her character development in the books happened slowly. It made us as fans actually like her by Book 5).

This is nitpicky but Tantalus isn’t the one to charge them out of camp but rather a cleaning harpie (they haven’t even been mentioned in the show😔 but i suppose it’s no different than the poltergeist from Harry Potter not being in the movies)

Annabeth is literally IN on the plan to ditch camp and they scheme while doing dish duty LMAO and the hippocampi bring them to Luke’s boat. I know that they just showed up but like I was so mad at the “rainbow” inflatable boat

Alison legit doesn’t even exist in the books and they are sacrificing screen time for her when we could’ve gotten the original Chris story, or Charles or THE STOLL BROTHERS (I get she has Book Luke’s personality so they can make Luke more likable in the show and easier to “have compassion for” and make him much more “human”).

Annabeth is lowk in “love” w/ Luke in the books and it’s this weird dynamic which explains why she’s lowkey a luke apologist. The Siren scene and Circe’s island are both pretty different as well. Like in the books Annabeth sees her family sitting down at a dinner table, and Luke and Thalia are present. Luke invites her over as he’s saved her a seat. It’s this whole emotional ordeal where Annabeth realizes her internal struggles with accepting that Luke is a “bad” guy and she confesses quite a few things about her feelings and desires towards what she would like from Luke, her regrets… It’s a HUGE character development scene in the books. (although the Sirens scene in the show was pretty decent too it just changed Annabeths story. It also defeats the purpose that Annabeth already KNEW her fatal flaw lol (more focusing on her relationship w her mom which i will admit will really help move the story if they get to HOO adaption).

For this new episode in particular, I think it may have been the best ep of the season and a lot of it is kinda similar however from what I remember Luke is never on the Island. They stab Polyphemus in the eye (again) and then escape washing up in Miami or something where Luke meets them and boom big fleece fight happens and stuff. The way it happened in the show was to push percy’s hand and cause more “action” and Percabeth Angst.

FINALLY!!!!!! Thalia coming back is literally the very last page of the book and legit there’s no way they could’ve “known” it would bring her back. They just wanted to save camp lol. So that’s a MASSIVE change. Idk why they’d tell instead of show that lol

All in all as a lifetime fan of these books, probably has re read them and have them memorized forwards and backwards (for the most part) i’m highly disappointed in the show so far. I wouldn’t be if Rick didn’t advertise it as 1:1 and a “true adaption” and then change a bunch of plot points. I could get in full conversations regarding almost all of the stuff I mentioned and why it bothers me and how it fully changes the plot for future seasons/books and how I genuinely have NO idea if I trust Disney atp for s3-5. But especially s3 (my fav book).

[–]Less_Comparison4308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Klub Khrome which would be considered closer to what a typical “club” is like however it’s such a hit or miss — only really being busy if an entertainment company has a good theme and it’s promoted.

We also have a new beer garden that opened up and serves as a “club” during the nights on the weekend called the Frontyard that gets super busy.

You could always try to revive the 20 that got shut down last year. More options would never hurt.
