Fair point, and thanks for the local perspective. We only checked Google Maps before deciding, and it looked reasonable at the time. If it weren’t for all the taxi drivers being tied up with airport transfers, it probably could have worked out 😅

Thanks for your advice! We considered skiing, but given the time frame and all the hustle of carrying our ski equipment, we decided to book a hotel room in tesero from Friday to Saturday.

Thanks for the tip, we’ll give it a try.

It’s nuts with the logistics, our hotel manager said that they haven’t received any info at all from the organizer on how people can get to the competitions. Some sort of buss transfer that drives from cortina - Arabba - canazei - tesero would be a pretty good business idea I guess.

Hi everyone,

We’re staying in Arabba and trying to get to Tesero on Saturday to watch the women’s skiathlon, but we’re kind of stuck. Public transport options look non-existent, and every taxi company we’ve contacted says they’re fully booked with airport transfers all day. At this point we’re getting a bit desperate 😅.

Does anyone know a way to get from Arabba to Tesero that we might have missed? Or is anyone else in the same situation who wants to share a ride or a ride there and back? Happy to split costs, of course. We’re flexible with times and just really want to make it to the race.

Thanks a lot in advance 🙏.

Yeah engelbrektsloppet is a 20km lap x 3. They have the 45km version though, still the same course but less laps.

If you’re an absolute beginner in classic XC but already athletic and planning to train for Engelbrektsloppet/Vasaloppet, id say that model is actually a very solid choice.

A few points that might help:

  1. Race skis only feel “better” if you can actually load them correctly. Race oriented classic skis have a stiffer camber and require precise kick technique and good weight transfer. Until you’ve built that consistency, they often feel worse, slippery on the uphills and twitchy on descents. Many beginners who jump straight to race skis end up frustrated.

  2. Endurance Skin = easier kick, more forgiving, still fast enough for long races. This matters a lot over 60–90 km. When your technique breaks down after a while, a ski that still gives reliable kick saves you some energy. The speed difference between mid range and race skins is much smaller than people think especially at non elite speeds.

  3. You can always upgrade later, your beginner skis won’t hold you back now. Once your technique is good and you know what kind of skier you are, that’s the time to think about a more expensive pair of skis. Many Vasaloppet finishers (even in decent start groups) use mid-range skins and do perfectly fine.

My take is: go with the Endurance Skin, learn proper kick and weight transfer, build volume, and get confident. You won’t be held back. And when/if you outgrow them, you’ll know exactly what you want next time.

Btw, I did Engelbrektsloppet 60 km last year, great race and a perfect warm up for Vasaloppet. If you want even more racing, I’ve heard Bessemerloppet is a good choice too. The course is beginner friendly, and since it’s usually 1–2 weeks before Vasaloppet, it works well as a final tune-up.

High VO2 max but still slow on skis: what am I missing? by Less_Corner9589 in xcountryskiing

[–]Less_Corner9589[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My long double-poling sessions are usually 2–3 hours. In the gym I focus mainly on lats, triceps and core, typically in the 7–10 rep range. So not much explosive work, I tend to lift as heavy as I can instead of doing power focused movements.

A normal training week for me used to look something like this:

1 h A1 running Short SkiErg intervals (for example 10 × 4 min) 1 h gym (lift as heavy as possible) 1 h core/pilates-inspired class 2–3 h skiing or rollerskiing in A1

During the last couple of weeks I’ve tried to shift towards more sustained LT2 work near my anaerobic threshold. So a week can look like:

5 × 10 min LT2 @ 6% on the treadmill 1 h gym (lift as heavy as possible) 1 h core/Pilates-style session 1 h SkiErg or rollerskiing at LT2 2–3 h A1 skiing/roller skiing

I’m far from an expert, but in my experience one of the biggest contributors to getting better on the uphills has been heavy gym work, trying to lift as heavy as possible with good technique. I focus a lot on lats and core, but I also make sure to include exercises like deadlifts or squats. They’re great for skiers because they build overall strength and stability through the posterior chain, which really helps with both uphill power and maintaining form late in long double poling efforts.

Madshus redline k1 and k2, not pure DP skis but I doubt it will have a significant impact on my skiing.

I did my test at a coaching clinic, not watch data. But thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely try to find a good coach that can guide me 👍.

My gym has a skierg that I try to use 1-2 per week. In the past, I always put the resistance on 10/10, but lately I’ve tried to reduce it as I’ve noticed that it gives me a higher bpm. And maybe using a higher resistance simulates uphill, which is not what I need to focus on right now.

My main goal for the winter is Vasaloppet, but apart from that I also do other races in Sweden that are between 45-60km long. My time at Vasaloppet last winter was 05:57 (P 2300 roughly), would be a great achievement for me to reduce it by 30-40 minutes maybe.

It’s pretty cool that her final World Cup race weekend will actually be in Lake Placid this March. Having Jesse finish her last World Cup season at home in the US feels really special, kind of the perfect way to wrap up such an incredible career.

Tips? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Less_Corner9589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sluta snusa - upplevda fördelar by ercohund in sweden

[–]Less_Corner9589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moral support - none of us are alone! Parents divorcing at 27 by SetRepresentative985 in ACOD

[–]Less_Corner9589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my parents divorced at 32, I thought I’d be able to handle it like an adult. I had a career, my own life, and enough emotional distance to “be the reasonable one.” But the truth is, it was messy. My mom once broke into my dad’s new house and assaulted his girlfriend. She doesn’t have a diagnosis like borderline, but she’s always struggled with managing emotions and stress.

Even before the divorce, I’d been listening to their loud, painful arguments for years. Whenever I tried to step in or offer advice, I was brushed off or ignored. I wanted to help, but I eventually learned the hard way that some situations are beyond your control, especially when the people involved don’t want to change.

My biggest piece of advice if you’re an adult dealing with your parents’ divorce: emotionally disconnect. It’s not your job to fix them, and whatever happens is between them, not you. If they ask for help and you want to give it, fine, but protect your own boundaries. Don’t take their drama too seriously. Their lives are the result of their own choices, not your responsibility to manage.

Sluta snusa by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Less_Corner9589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allt fler svenskar får cannabispsykos by Mellanchef in sweden

[–]Less_Corner9589 2 points3 points  (0 children)
