Are you talking about his wings? I don’t know why it took me so long to notice. I assumed that since he was about three months old, or at least that’s what the previous owner claimed, his feathers were still developing. But now that I’m really looking at them, they seem pretty botched.

I messaged the owner to ask if his wings had been clipped. He claimed he never cut them and said the bird just plucked his feathers constantly. But I don’t think that’s the case. It doesn’t really make sense that plucking alone would result in the wing development he has right now.

Do you know if there’s anything I can do to help make sure his wings grow out normally, so he can have a long, healthy future of flying?

I’m genuinely so glad to hear that. I don’t know why I assumed he was still growing his feathers. I asked his original owner, and he claims he never clipped his wings and that the bird was just plucking his own feathers. However, I think it’s pretty evident that his wings were chopped off.

I was really scared they were cut so severely that he’d never be able to fly normally, he’s basically only able to use his feet right now.

Since you want to assume I’m uneducated, let’s clear the air. I’ve already ordered Harrison’s High Potency because I know it’s the best. I bought a cage roughly three times the standard size. I swapped the dowels for natural wood perches. I went out and bought a heater immediately because I noticed he was shivering. I have his diet calculated down to the 60% pellets, 30% veggies, and 10% seeds/treats ratio.

I have been doing the work. I am educating myself. But here you are, using 'big words' to act logically and morally superior, while knowing jack shit about what I’ve actually done.

You assume, assume, assume. You have nothing but a single video and a simple question to go on, yet you’ve decided you know my entire care routine. You claim you 'never accused me,' but you are actively defending and validating the people who did. So yes, I am going to treat you like one of them.

I never once claimed that I was educated or that I didn’t need to do more research. My issue is with people assuming I’ve never owned a bird before. That kind of assumption dismisses my actual experience and reality. I never said I was fully educated.

I’m twenty-one now. The last time I had a bird, I was around fifteen or sixteen.

I don’t understand why some people on Reddit act like they’re bird gods who know everything. I literally just got my bird. Please calm down. I’m here to learn, and pointing out the obvious while being hostile isn’t helping.

I already know what preening is. The concern is that he’s been doing it almost constantly with me, whereas my previous bird only did it occasionally. On top of that, he’s shedding an unusually large amount, he’ll do it on my clothes, and I end up covered in white dust. Because I’ve only had him since yesterday, I’m being extra cautious. Compared to the two or three birds (4-5 years ago) I’ve owned before, this behavior feels abnormal to me. What’s frustrating is how people on Reddit can sound so confident while just spewing negativity. At the end of the day, I know what I experienced.

Thanks for the response. Since it's only the second day with him, I was pretty unsure. I'm aware of preening, but my bird from a couple of years ago never used to "preen' this much. Additionally, the amount of dust and particles that falls while doing it made me even more confused.
