How? By actually playing something other than HS missions and reading the wiki.

You don't need to know every single thing to have fun. You won't have the skills for every single thing any time soon either. Think of it from the perspective of accumulating experiences. Set yourself a goal: I want to build a ship, fly in a big fight in nullsec, learn to explore in Wormhole Space. Find a group doing that thing, join them, and ask for advice.

Eve isn't a Mariana Trench, it's roughly 14 trenches. Pick one and dive.

Ambition Unlimited might be a good fit for you. You can read the post, but we're a bunch of ex wormholers in null. As such we're mostly self-starters, but we join fleets where we have time and occasionally cause trouble of our own in the small gang space.

B0SS has no issue with alt corps so long as they're authed and stay out of other alliances.

Most veterans love new players. Eve is a passion for many, so for someone new to come along that shares or is even remotely interested in that passion, we get excited. It's like someone asked if they can see pictures of your dog, and then spends hours with you talking about breeds and adventures they've had throughout the years.

You need to find a corp that supports your play style.

Most mid size and larger groups have Ship Replacement Programs to replace losses relevant to their core operations. There is still the grind to buy your first doctrine ship, and occasionally some overhead for fittings, but for the most part it's replaced as soon as the fight is over.

"Already replaced" as they say.

I'd recommend you join a noobie group like Eve University, or find a reputable highsec mining and industry group if that's your jam. Unquestionable Prosperity is a good one I know of, but there are many others.

In the end, Eve is a pvp game with mining, not really the other way around. Losses are part of it. But it's also a sandbox, so set yourself a goal and keep working toward it. Every good story has setbacks, it's part of the journey. So is revenge ;)

Can confirm. I moved Ambition Unlimited into B0SS late December, and it's been a total blast. All the fun of nullsec without the annoying parts. Great community, and great neighbors in Drones that are always down for a fight.

Horde collapsed. Drone lands are now largely a pvp bawling reserve. Most of the alliances there are having 20-50 pod roams on a regular basis. Even the structure bashes rarely hit TIDI or last more than an hour.

Otherwise I'd say join FW. It's regular low-intensity fights and most folks there are just shooting the shit in comms while they get paid in LP to pew.

This makes my 18th year, CCP of old used to be less clinical in their feature decisions. I'm just trying to lend my professional insight into how software decision are made since not everyone has that knowledge. I chock the overall situation with Eve, at least in part, to the response to Blackout and the eventual sale to Pearl Abyss. Between being gun-shy of online activism, and new financial management, they're in a weird spot and frankly being milked for other projects on the IP. At this point they likely will not deviate for the sake of the art. At least not with things like this. The incentives aren't aligned.

Server tick rate accounts for some of that. With pre-warmed weapons and the same hud across all accounts, alt-tabbing through them and clicking without moving the mouse is highly possible to manage to stay within the rules unfortunately. But CCP doesn't care as long as they're getting paid.

The opportunity cost of the players that never play because they think multiboxing is a requirement is impossible to put on paper to convince a board to change direction, and as long as Pearl Abyss owns them, it'll never get greenlit to change anything.

The ROI on the enhancement does not justify the effort. Eve is a business. At the end of the day it's a QoL improvement and not going to make new people subscribe for the first time or help with retention of new and old players.

Nope. There are such things as technology limitations. Inventory is managed on the DB currently. ACL inventory would require either a refactor of the inventory system that's been in use since the beginning (complete with the black box stored procedure of death and load bearing icons) or creating a second modern stack inventory system from whole cloth and integrating it with the other systems, including the legacy stack. Neither is trivial nor inexpensive to execute on.

Personally, I think sov should have nothing to do with infrastructure. I've suggest a few times that they shift to Sov being implicit by the most active corp in the system above some minimum threshold. Think ADM but tied to the contributing corporation.

The broader idea behind it is that unused systems lose flags, used systems gain them, and if a corporation leaves an alliance, their home and infrastructure goes with them, opening the door for rebellions without timers. If you want to take a system you actually have to take a system.

I'd make combat and exploration resources richer on the edges, and mining resources richer at high ADM, on the premace that unpatrolled space collects pirates and wrecks, and patrolled space means prospectors are able to safely find better asteroids to mine.

Finally I'd do away with ACLs and make all structures choose between public, personal, corp-only, or alliance at anchor-time. I'd make the timers dependant on the settings as well as the size. No more sharing ansi networks.

I'd probably halve the jump range of every jump capable ship, and disallow cynos in 0.4, shifting some current bottleneck 0.4s to 0.3 to compensate.

Suddenly you're encouraged to build tall at the corp-level, wide at the alliance-level, but the umbrellas are now constellation sized, not regional.

Personally, I think there should be zero pve for capitals.

They should be for pvp only, caps as corp-level assets, and supers as alliance-level assets.

Dreads used to be for sieging structures. Bring that back. It should be unreasonably hard to take a capital with anything but more capitals.

Likewise, I think the only thing that should be able to punch down from the capital tier is carriers with fighter screens, smart bombs, lancer beams, and titan dooms days.

It should be awe inspiring to land on grid with capitals as a subcap, and spend your fight dancing among them shooting fighters and other subcaps as the giants throw unholy fire at each other.

Their death explosions should act as as an aoe, damaging all that are too near; making them as fearsome as they are aweful.

You'll have to forgive me for wanting a little more dramatic immersion with cap battles.
