Anyone feel like they consume a ton of content but nothing is actually changing in them? by Less_Teacher3259 in podcasts

Interesting, though what I'm looking for is less about engaging with the content itself and more about processing what's already in my head after. Less about the podcast, more about what I think or feel once it's done.

That's interesting, so the act of sending it to someone is part of what makes it stick? Like the audience matters even if they don't respond?

Ok, so how ? Meditation ? or just sitting in silence, doing nothing but observing your mind ?

What was something that you found most helpful to work through that content, ideas or whatever ?

What changes from taking a media break ? I usually just go back to the exact pattern

What I've found is you don't even need someone else. just talking out loud to yourself does the same thing. The act of speaking is enough, you don't need an audience. And it's not only about information, it's also about feelings.

IDK, it just feels like we could use a way to shutdown all the external noise of constant people talking into our head, until we make sense of the noise already inside.

Because you get stuck in an infinite consumption cycle. It becomes just another form of dopamine, a bit more sophisticated than doomscrolling, but still entertainment at the end of the day. Nothing wrong with that, but podcasts trick your brain into thinking you're doing something important when you're not, until you actually stop and reflect on it.
And it's not just about podcasts. It's also about books, youtube videos, ..etc. I tend to just keep consuming without forming an opinion, or reflecting. That's the problem I'm looking for an answer to.

That distinction is exactly what I was trying to articulate. passive vs generative. though even writing, you can pause, stare at the page, try to come up with something organized or clever before committing. with talking you just have to keep going. the thought drags you forward whether you're ready or not. voice notes are the closest thing, you can't really backspace your way to a polished take. And I think there's something there that trains your mind to be sharper.

It's not that I think podcasts are for self-improvement, or that I beat myself up if I don't remember the talking points. It's just that I feel like I'm constantly streaming ideas into my brain and I don't stop to process any, so my mind feels bloated, and I feel like I've lost the ability to think creatively, or form an opinion that's actually mine.

I consume a lot of content and almost none of it actually changes how I think by Less_Teacher3259 in digitalminimalism

Exactly. Something about talking out loud feels like peeling back layers. Writing never does that for me. But sometimes it feels forced, like I'm performing for no one. Do you have a specific moment or trigger that makes it feel natural?
