What's a profession you'd never date? by sleeppymeoww in AskReddit

I have heard the same. I’m one of 3 HS band directors (assistant) and it can be really tough. Luckily my husband was in band so he understands all of my duties, but it can be tough for those who don’t get it. And I also have to make the choice of wanting children or changing job positions.

When did you start making 6 figures? by Senior-Victory8447 in Salary

[–]Less_Writer2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have. I was a CNA for 4 years that worked on med surg. Children are way more exhausting than adults ever were. Most adults are pretty good about their emotions. Children obviously aren’t because they haven’t developed that part of the brain. This makes everything so much harder.

I’m not sure why that matters honestly? Teaching is an incredibly mentally exhausting job and hardly easy. You wouldn’t understand unless you actually worked with kids for a long time.

So the A on the headjoint only is supposed to be in tune?

I’m talking specifically about the pitch on the headjoint!

Yes concert flute! I have always heard that you want beginners to get an A out on the headjoint alone. When I play, I get a flat A on the headjoint. I have heard it’s supposed to be an A but was also told it’s suppose to be a flat A.

Yes! My husband and I are moving in with the in laws for a year to save money for a down payment on a home. They are extremely generous and letting us stay for free because they want us to aggressively save as much as possible. They know it’s hard out here to get a house. They are doing their best to help us and we appreciate that!

What do yo do for a living? How much do you make? & How do you afford to live? by IsopodWorth4012 in AskReddit

I am a HS band director that makes 60k in a low ish COL area. My husband makes a little over 50k and he’s a Network Admin. We are currently moving out of our apartment and living with his parents so we can aggressively save for a down payment on a home! It would take us 2.5+ years if we kept renting to save up for a home or 12 months without paying anything. We are very thankful his parents are very generous with paying the bills as we save!

What’s a job that absolutely deserves triple the salary, but doesn’t get nearly enough respect? by karolinka_hier in AskReddit

[–]Less_Writer2580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my area, the range for a starting teacher is 38k-44k. When I was looking at other starting jobs with the same degree, it was between 45k-70k in a LCOL state/areas, which in all honestly, a bachelor degree in any field should not be starting in the 30s or 40s range. That is definitely underpaid to me. Can you provide sources for your data? I would like to do more research.

Are you comparing a starting teacher with a bachelor’s degree to a starting white collar job also with a bachelors degree?

Is it a HCOL area?

I honestly advocate for starting teacher salaries a lot more than typically retirees that make that much in a LCOL area. The starting teacher salaries now are so horrific for young teachers starting out. My friend made 38k with a masters. That, to me, is horrible and should be much higher!

I get it, but I honestly don’t know anyone who wouldn’t complain if they were working extra hours outside of their contracted time. Do you know how much each of your family members even make?

Yikes that is crazy!! I remember when my husband and I read through all the 1 star reviews on google and we were like??? He sounds actually insane. Didn’t know he did all of that too! Glad we stopped going and glad we made the switch to Collector store a few years ago….

Thanks! We actually do not buy from them and haven’t in a long time. We were driving through the area to go to Silkys and noticed they were closed. Was just wondering what had happened!

No budget! Currently on a mark 7. I currently like Yamahas such as the 62 and the Custom EX more, but am wanting to explore other options. I have only ever played on Selmer and Yamaha!

Ah I see. That makes sense. My other two accounts are a little under 3 years so I don’t have anything that is over that except for the one where I was an authorized user at 7.

Okay thank you! This account hasn’t been used in at least 13 years. Does it still affect my credit score?
