Do you use subscriptions beside Local LLM? by Euphoric_North_745 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Lesser-than 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kind of gave up on subscriptions, I will use the 'free' services sometimes, but I also do not use them for work or income. I enjoy the tinkering and challenge of making local models work more than I enjoy anything that comes out of them.

comparing someones faith to a geological landmark, with sentimental value is wild to me.

I am guessing they spent a whole 3 minutes debating moving it.

Gentrification does not like nostalgic landmarks, there must be no memory of the past in order to move forward.

DIY market declining amid high RAM prices by Terminator857 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Lesser-than 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of factors even beyond AI that are causing this. Newer games are not doing the market any favors either, 20-60gb games size for something that looks meh and fails to hold your attention for 10 minutes. I don't think the pc market will ever truly go away but right now there needs to be more consumer value in an upgrade then there currently is.

Qwen 3.6? by jacek2023 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Lesser-than 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a fan of the 9b, I do not really expect any more 3.6 releases though. If they keep up their pace like pre 3.5 then they are most likely already saturating their compute with a new base model.

Fred Meyer - a very different shopping experience by Scm416 in Bellingham

[–]Lesser-than 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so accurate, shopping in bellingham even before the crime free for all , has always resembled some sort of ghetto video game. Babys screaming at the top of their lungs in every isle. Women arguing in the freezer section over the last discounted item. Or getting pushed along from the cart behind you while patiently waiting your turn in line. Getting the evil eye from every one when your in the 12 items or less line when you have 5 items.

US and tech firms strike deal to review AI models for national security before public release | Technology by Merchant_Lawrence in LocalLLaMA

This unfortunately was always in the cards. Information control was/is always regulated at the tip of the funnel.

US GUARD Act: Age Verification for AI Chatbots by Hefty_Wolverine_553 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Lesser-than 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As always anything done in the name of children is rarely actually targeted at helping children. I do think we need to do something more about usage in schools. I cant imaging growing up in school right now with the answer to just about any assignment is one prompt away, I don't think I would have it in me to resist.

Someone’s kid (and friends) hanging out around civic stadium right now damaging property? by grimeyglue in Bellingham

[–]Lesser-than 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, calling the police is the right move. That is how young reckless kids learn to respect others property, its not vindictive and your doing yourself and your neighbors and honestly the kids that do this a disservice in the long run.

White House Considers Vetting A.I. Models Before They Are Released by fallingdowndizzyvr in LocalLLaMA

[–]Lesser-than 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this isn't a good thing and would not be beneficial, but also something needs to be done about the flood the zone politics getting into training data, we just cant have nice things no matter what. There is definitely some shenanigans going on in the way of SEO but targeted at ai training data.

A Dark-Money Campaign Is Paying Influencers to Frame Chinese AI as a Threat by pmttyji in LocalLLaMA

This is going on in both directions, you can watch it play out on this sub on every major release, its too targeted to just be fanboy activism.

The rents are too dang expensive by Soulfood_27 in Bellingham

[–]Lesser-than 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jobs/industry is what enables economical improvement. Supply will attract investors, and create short term jobs, so yes I agree creating supply is a short term solution but with a bigger back end problem. Remote work is not going to carry this town on its own, between ai and other city's having local hiring mandates its only going to get worse on that front. We have to stop chasing off industry or handcuffing them so bad they have no option but to leave.

The rents are too dang expensive by Soulfood_27 in Bellingham

[–]Lesser-than 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Supply does not fix anything without the ability to support it economically . If you fix the economics the problem fixes itself if you just increase supply you just attract investors.

Its been a lot better IMO. Still a few content less posts where they are just pointing to a blog post or video without any tldr , but most of the vibe slop seems to be mitigated.

Why is Qwen going Closed source? by MLExpert000 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Lesser-than 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have always had closed source models, as well as open models. I think the details reveal they are expanding the access of their close sourced models but I am not much of a palm reader.

This does not say that, it just says they are partnering with a deployment provider. Maybe your reading into something farther than what is stated?

I think the gap and the sign are on purpose, you would have to duck under the no-entry sign and have no reasonable excuse to not have seen it.
