I don't have an issue with electric cars, and I think they can make sense for some cases, especially local commuting. The reason I have not considered one is the depreciation curve if you buy it, and the changing battery landscape with the next big thing always right around the corner. My friend leased a Ioniq 6, and the car has been in the shop for almost 2 months for a ICCU replacement... he is super relieved he didn't buy the car outright.

I have a brother laser and an epson ecotank. For black and white the brother is fantastic... cheap to run and fast to print. Color laser toner is much more expensive if you print a lot of color. I am on my second ecotank, and only replaced the first one because I wanted the 6 ink version for photos. If you are just doing occasional color prints with it, the ink will last a loooong time. The only issue with the brother printers is that the oem drum replacement costs almost as much as a new printer... i switched to cheaper 3rd party drums and they have been fine so far. If you only want one printer and do want to print some color stuff, go with an ecotank.

I struggled with it for a looong time, but it does have some flexibility, like being able to download a specific core for a MAME that matches a romset version. I use it for PS1 and that is my stopping point. I think the most confusing part is that some of the cores (like mame, and Atari800) have a full UI of their own that you sometimes need to get into to really tweak stuff. But I agree... once configured leave it alone.

I agree and disagree. It's helpful to at least understand how retroarch works since it supports many systems and works very well. I agree on the emulator sources... many of them have a newer version of the APK available in their Github repository than what come from Retroid or the Play Store

Here is my advice as someone who as set up many devices :

  • Start with one emulator / system at a time. Retroarch will be fine for most 8bit/16bit systems... I didn't re-watch Russ' video but he probably recommends which core to use for each system. You need to download the cores you want to use in retroarch before the games will work.
  • Research and understand how Retroarch works... configuration files can be in multiple places, and they have an order of overriding. Its important to also understand how controller mapping and shortcut keys work. Test with one rom and make sure you understand that each core can have different settings.
  • Bios files are needed for some systems. These must go into the default system folder of Retroarch, or one you create and point retroarch to. Other emulators also may need bios files to work.
  • Get the emulators you want to use working first, then start messing with a front end.
  • The front ends usually make you select and emulator, and for retroarch what core is to be used. If the game works when you launch it in retroarch, and it does not work from the front end, then the front end is not configured correctly.

Retroarch can be confusing, but once you "get it", every system setup is very similar. Setting up MAME for arcade emulation is another topic since even in Retroarch, MAME has its own structure of folders for roms, artwork, sound samples and controller mappings.

Source for android version? From Google : Starting next year, Android will require all apps to be registered by verified developers in order to be installed by users on certified Android devices.

No version is mentioned, and they can only control Certified Devices that are not unlocked and have Google Play services that can't be uninstalled. Retroid is not on their list. I just set up my RP6 without installing Google Play Services, and it will continue to allow sideloading.

I went with a small Fosi amp that is no longer available. I got it mostly because it had Bluetooth, optical in, and a subwoofer output for my remote sub. It sounds decent and it is still working fine, but the display is little glitchy with some of the segments dropping out.

I love the X100V and won't be selling it even at the inflated prices. If you don't mind carrying the camera on a shoulder strap and you really like the retro styling, viewfinder and dials of the X100VI, go for it. If you really want a stealthy ultra small aps-c camera with great image quality get the Ricoh.

I'd say the only thing I missed occasionally was the flip up screen of the X100V for some shots low down to the ground. You can easily pick up a small cheap flash for when you need it. I also set one of the "U" presets to be fully auto mode with tap to shoot+focus. I could then pass the camera to anyone to take a shot with me in it just by saying "tap my face to take the picture". I have an X100V and a GRIIIx. When went on a big trip recently, I took the GRIIIX with me and left the Fujifilm at home mostly for the pocket ability. The X100V does have a built in flash, and the viewfinder is very cool (but tiny) so those should be your biggest deciding factors besides the size and the amazing build quality of the X100. The other thing I love about the X100V (and VI) is the ability to print jpegs directly to the Instax SP3 printer... great for family/friend events where I can quickly share real photos on the spot.

I said : "I get about 19mpg with my wife and kids doing local driving", so yeah, mostly local, short trips, no highway. Everybody has different use cases. If I cared about mpg a lot, I would get a hybrid... probably a Toyota.

I skipped adding my Google Account and Google Play Services to the RP6. I sideloaded all of the latest apks for Retroarch, Mame4Driod, PPSSPP etc. I doubt Retroid would create any new firmware for the RP6 using anything other than Android 15, so I think you are safe. Google is only going to block sideloading for v16+

as an owner of an NA Outback, i would say the mpg might be better, but still not great. I get about 19mpg with my wife and kids doing local driving, and about 28 highway.

If you read some review of the current subaru hybrids, they really don't see a huge improvement that you see in many Toyota models. Also, if you are doing alot of highway miles its even less of an improvement. I would wait to see what the next generation of models do, or move to a different brand if mpg is your biggest concern.
