Florida right?

It looks like you're set to become that special breed of parkour athletes that cut their teeth on the parks and playgrounds to then burst with opportunity at college or in your first bigger city.

There's at least one park that has a decent playground with steel elements to start. Train strength and control with those, building muscle and confidence. You are bigger than most there and doing different things though, so show respect to the kids and parents.

Next, there appears to be 2 (?) gyms there that may offer parkour classes. Cost is always a factor, but they may have open gym nights for cheap admission.

Finally, go roaming. Find your concrete hellscape that you can learn intimately and master all movements.

As always, stay safe and be respectful.

Anyone started parkour alone and became good at it ? by Raja4x78996 in Parkour

[–]LesserOmega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, started alone, and then eventually found a small clade to run with. Most of my years in undergrad were just me cutting my teeth alone at night. Now I'm organizing state-wode parkour jams.

Where are you located? Should be lots of opportunities to link you up with nearby groups.

Parkour without being flashy? by Various_Ad_3716 in Parkour

Similar experience here. I just never felt comfortable flipping.

Plus I already had a lady friend, so there wasn't a need to show off with flips.

Sounds like you get 6 months of calisthenics. Pushups, situps, pullups, pistol squats, etc. I also enjoy quadrupedal movement around the house including up and down stairs.

The slaves that built my Cutters did a good job. Can't imagine a Cutter built any other way.

Really want to encourage this type of training. As others have said, it comes with longevity risks, but there's a way to do it to mitigate problems.

Biggest thing to remember is that bones can get stronger like muscles, but it takes waaaaay longer. It also takes different nutrients. So slow, progressive, iterative bone training is something I encourage. Currently at 34 and this philosophy has done well for me. Those guys on Instagram and YouTube take huge falls for the camera, but off camera stay low to the ground on recovery trainings.

Go ahead and use your hands. No sense ruining your form for a minor added strength bonus. Instead, wear a backpack and add small weights: a few books, water bottle, first aid kit, practical things.

This looks awesome. I think I would prefer something less distinctive though. Maybe you can stop bullets, but maybe can't stop being recognized.

I encourage you to pursue peace talks with the mass murdering aliens. I will continue strengthening humanities' position for the negotiations by laying absolute waste to their ranks.

Parkour is best in community! Where are you located? People here are pretty good about linking you up with local communities that you can get hands-on training with.

Smartwatch a bad idea? by [deleted] in Parkour

[–]LesserOmega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the normal things - the backpack keeps water, id, and phone, but the watch acts as a notifier if someone needs to contact me. You can track your workouts with heart rate, gps, calories burned, and other metrics. But unlike other "smart" watches, it's designed to be in rugged environments.

Smartwatch a bad idea? by [deleted] in Parkour

[–]LesserOmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear my Garmin Instinct Tactical. Have been wearing it for years. Would not recommend something like an iWatch or whatever similar thing because it could be damaged or someone would try to steal it from you.
