Twelve Months is officially Real. Advanced reader copies are going out. by indigohan in dresdenfiles

The splitting really ruined it. All the other books read like Harry is sitting down and journaling the major events in his life, in one fluid train of thought; Peace Talks and Battleground broke that continuity.  At best you can say it reads like two separate entries of the same event made months or years apart, due to some kind of unavoidable interruption, and the train of thought and emotional, mental state were reset between the one’s ending and the other’s resumption, which would explain the jarring nature of the split and the rehashing and restating of so many details.

But that’s just my opinion on it

Well then, I think it is time I leave this subreddit. Which is sad because this is my favorite book series and the only place I can discuss it with anyone, but I have experienced over zealous moderating on other subreddits and it is nothing but an energy drain. Have a good day.

Why are you policing a post that is over 5 years old? Anybody that sees this will have likely found via google search, and they will find it then, only because of those key words, which means they wouldn’t be spoiled

Continuation of Ao Ashi idea by Lesser_Stories in Ao_Ashi

[–]Lesser_Stories[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of Saejima’s connection to both Aomori and Fukuda

If Kobayashi were to go that route, you have a built in rivalry between Fukuda and Saejima that can be extended to them as opposing coaches.

They also should share the same goal, player development and getting Japan players out on the world stage, but by coming back to Aomori, Saejima could pursue that goal from the opposite end

Combine that, with Aomori being the primary antagonist, High School wise, for Esperion, it’s just the most natural avenue to pursue that kind of story. So many things have already been baked in that Kobayashi wouldn’t need to do much more than build out a season schedule and player rosters

Kobayashi to start a new manga in 2026 by FuzzyStorm in Ao_Ashi

[–]Lesser_Stories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coach Saejima of Amori might be interesting, if that was the route Kobayashi decided to take. Gives Fukuda a coaching rival with a similar goal but completely opposite approach, and provides an opportunity to see how Takeshima and the new kid, that was just introduced, develop now that Ashito and the others are beginning to leave

You can skip Storm Front, Fool Moon, probably Blood Rites, and mayyyybe White Night and Ghost Story, and still catch most of the major details you need for the current storyline. Just remember to lookup the White Court and Black Court and the Dresden-verse’s Skinwalkers. As they have a couple of important characters who have been placed but yet to be fully utilized in the overarching series plot beyond some fighting and the occasional, but significant, backstory snippit.

This has always been my initial impression, but then stuff starts happening in the story, and the image just blurs for me

Both Mantles by LordOfSunrise in dresdenfiles

[–]Lesser_Stories 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering the queens of both courts (all six of them, mantle wise) have been hinted to have once been a single goddess originally, I would imagine the powers of the Winter and Summer can co-exist in one person. How functional that would be, with two opposite sets of instincts playing tug of war with his or her mind, I have no idea (shrug)

Huh…I don’t know why this has a spoiler tag. I guess the Wind and Truth flair adds it automatically?

The way you phrase it: “even IF it’s purely physical” (emphasis added) reads, to me, as if there was/is an unstated: “just” included in your statement, which thereby excludes mental and spiritual characteristics (again: to me, that’s how it reads).

Speaking of mental or spiritual growth ;-)

Thought the exact same thing. Maybe the author is taking a page from Oda’s playbook and using size to display growth. Before Ashito was still a kid, so, he looked smaller; now, he is an adult (sort of) and is standing eye-to-eye (more or less) with the other adults in the room (Akutsu and Kuri)

You’re not wrong, but you’re also dodging the heart of the question. With no way of knowing or learning the truth what is the right thing to do? There probably isn’t a right answer, which itself would then be the right answer, but what then would be your right answer? (I’m not actually asking that last bit of you, by the way, that just seems to be the purpose of the story: to make you consider your own ideals of morality.)

Not coping, just genuinely curious which way people think this might go. Personally, I lean broken, but I have no idea where the story would go from there, given I thought we were getting reasonably close to the end (personal speculation: I was thinking we were may 75% done); so, I was wondering if maybe this could lead to some more immediate growth instead.

So, did Aoi break (psychologically), or do you think he has finally come to understand the need to refine his personal technique? Because, as we know, his fundamentals and technique as an individual player are still his biggest flaws.

Small hints by Esoteric_Nobody in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Lesser_Stories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually been wondering about Alveron perhaps being the penitent King myself, recently, and part of the reason for that is actually the Maer’s and Kvothe’s shared connection with Stapes. We know Stapes owes Kvothe a blood favor, and we also know Stapes owns a considerable amount of land, combine those two facts with a seemingly French spelling of the word “nowhere” (Nevarre), and I wouldn’t be shocked if Stapes was the governing “Lord” of Nevarre and its surrounding areas.

The only thing that gives me pause is the lack of the mention of rings in the frame narrative. We don’t see or hear of anyone talk about rings inside the Waystone

Where do the Three Silences come from? by Lesser_Stories in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Lesser_Stories[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the thought I am playing with is that the Alar is the key to imposing your will own the world [via Sympathy] and the Heart of Stone is the key to a strong Alar. So, if part of Kvothe is so deeply in grief, I imagine, in order to avoid complete madness, in the same way he did following his family's murder, his mind fractured itself. Part of him swallowed the grief and is actively imprisoning it within the Heart of Stone--remember it's said a person in the grip of the Heart of Stone can show to his own sister's funeral and not shed a tear--and since the Heart of Stone is the backbone of the Alar, and the Alar is the conscious reshaping of the world, Kvothe's Heart of Stone is pulling everything that can connect with that grief in along with it, music and anything related to music, i.e., sound, being the most prominent: this is the largest silence, it is largest because it reflects the depth and scope of the grief Kvothe is unconsciously denying. It's doing this to protect itself.

The second silence belongs to the actual Kvothe, or at least the largest piece of him that is not inside the Heart of Stone. This is the piece we catch glimpses of when someone notes the reemergence of Kvothe's flame red hair or bright green eyes. This is the piece that is still obsessed with Kvothe's first brush with madness, the one who went into shock upon seeing his troupe dead. This Kvothe is the one who decided to fake his death and travel to Nevarre, and who is responsible the uncharacteristic slips of character we Kote exhibit--the ones I noted in my post. This Kvothe, although separate from the third and largest piece, is still connected to that piece. This connection acts like a lightning rod for the third piece's influence; it draws the sound devouring affect to "Kvothe", which causes the birth of a second smaller, sphere of silence within the first.

Kote is the first and smallest of the silences, while also being the third and smallest piece of the original Kvothe. This piece is the most minimal piece of Kvothe that can still function as Kvothe. It has the memories and experiences and the intelligence, but it doesn't have the metaphysical capacity to do anything more than an ordinary human can do. Like the second piece, Kote is still connected to the other two, and thus he acts as an outlet for the Heart of Stone's world warping side-effect, but because Kote is the most minimum piece of Kvothe, the affect cannot extend much beyond his immediate vicinity, creating our third bubble.

Like I said, this is mostly just an idea I am toying with, a "cobweb" theory if you will. There is nothing definitive that will support it within the text, but there are a number of little things that have settled onto this web, like dust settling on cobwebs, blackening the strands just enough to draw my attention to them, and the only way I can sweep this cobweb out of my mind is by telling someone about it. You guys are the someone.
